"Mommy! Sam is not playing with me. Ask him to join me in whatever he is playing mommy .. Pls!" I say tugging at her sleeve while she was busy gardening.
"Sam is it so darling? Why don't you join Violet as well?" She said and continued gardening as if all of this never took place.
Pft ... I knew it ! Mommy loves sam more than me. But Daddy loves me better.I run upstairs to the study where daddy was working. And kiss him. I know that I will always be his only princess.
"What is it dear? What should I do for Daddy's little Princess ??" He says affectionately while he runs his hand through my hair.
"Sam doesn't play with me ... I feel lonely ... no one plays with me."I say and cry into his arms.
"Come here now vi bear let's play together ... I know mommy and Sam will join after see how fun it is."
"Ok daddy you are the best." I run to catch up with him. He stretches to reach something from the top of the cupboard...he takes out an old camera.
"This is my first camera ... my mom and dad gifted it to me on my 16th birthday ... they wanted me to get something special for me. My dad then gifted my a photoframe here .. take a look 5 more years and it is yours truly ..
Now come on lets get ready for our plan." He smiled wickedly and told me the plan, it was perfect.
"So tell me ... what is your name sir ?" I ask with a straight face, we were playing interview.
"Hi there (waves excitedly) My name is Leo Valdes Halls." He runs over to mommy
"This is my wife Miranda Field Halls and she shows favouritism even to her children."Mommy turns swiftly and glares at daddy.
She pulls me to a hug. Daddy joins us, seconds later Sam jumps onto us toppling all of us down. We lie still on the soft grass and laugh. It felt as though everything around us slowed down and it was bliss everywhere.
But that is where is our happy life ends, from then on our life was a roller coaster ride spiralling downwards.
2 years later Daddy became busy day by day, He had to travel place to place.
And as for mom she was the CEO of a bank so we were all alone.
So when one day Sam asked me if he could go for a double date with his friend I told ok. I guess it was because I felt guilty because I was too over protective, He had become 13 years old and we were old enough to protect ourselves.
So they all went to a fancy place around the corner for dinner. When Sam came back he did not look exactly the way he went there.
He had messy hair,blood oozing out from his mouth ,a black eye and he was unconscious. His friend Benny carried him home.
"So Benny, tell me what actually happened in the restaurant?" I ask as casually as I can, and try to ignore the girls weeping in the dining room.
He looks scared but then takes a deep breath and starts, "Everything was alright when we went there to the restaurant. We talked a lot and had fun."
"But then he looked over to some guys table, seemed shocked and excused him self. I followed him to see what he was upto."
"He went up to the table and asked, "papa aren't you supposed to be at a meeting with your higher officials in Oakland?", then he turned to the lady sitting near him and asked, "who are you? What are you trying to do to my father?" By then the man stood up and told him" ha ha no one really son, this is my higher official she decided to come here. Her name is Willow.""
"By then his shoulder relaxed and he smiled at her he was about to lend out his hand when a voice interrupted him "papa... mama" a child ran into the arms of that man."
We were interrupted by a doorbell I run to the door and open it to see mom. I hugged her and told her everything. She said that she will be with Sam and take care of him while I hear the rest of the story.
I jump back onto the couch and ask him to complete the story.
He nods and says, "After that all hell broke loose your brother punched that man and kicked him. He grabbed a butter knife and was about to stab him. I was there to hold him back otherwise.." he trailed off
I thanked him and closed the door. I went over to my room to see Sam and mom huddled up into a ball.
Next day I spill out everything to mom. She said she had to go out and excused herself. She gave me a smile and left the house.
Only later did I know that it was the last time I was going to see her smile.
Mom left her job and just forgot about her children. She started taking drugs and hardly stayed sober. It was like my part time job to pick her up from some pub after she drunk too much and started fighting.
It only became worse in the days to come. She startedspacing out a lot and when she wasn't she would cry and cry about dad.
I mean I got to agree, he was handsome. I got my looks from him. Sam and I looked nothing like twins, except for our hair. He looked more like mom , I looked more like dad.

She eventually divorced him...he wanted Sam to live with him and mom was fine with it . One less to take care off. Pft.
She eventually became depressed. It took the life out of her ... sucked her energy. She never talked she would walk to the kitchen eat food I made and drink water. Then she would longingly gaze at the T.V even when it wasn't switched on.
After a month of Sam staying with my ex-father he ran away from there and came back home. He was crying. It seemed dad had called him there only so he can take over his business.
"Aww... that isn't too bad is it ?"I ask happy that our dad was trying to make up for his mistake.
"Vi ... oh... how can you be so naive? Did you ever wonder why he constantly moved from one place to another ? No ! You didn't! Nor did I! He is the leader of a mafia gang. He wanted me to take over after he dies. He kills innocent people for money and sell drugs!! Wonder how mom fell in love with him. I won't let him near us he told me that he would take revenge on us because I went to the cops and gave away his illegal storehouse. "
"He won't come near us .. I will make sure Sam."
I wake up from my lucid dreams. I turn around to be aware of my surroundings. I see Matt looking at the road and steaming of about how I am not allowed to go with strangers. I was behind him in his bike, hugging tighly, trying not to let go, he is the only one left.
However screwed up our lives our, I guess somethings just never change. And I am glad they don't.
