A/N: holy crapola i gotta stop having ideas with this hot mess.

This is a slight AU where Jacob isn't kidnapped, but rather being held and you're forced to decide if you should save your life for his or save his life in turn of yours;

---

F.E.A.R.

That simple, four lettered word held two different meanings- and in both you've noticed that they held a very strong conflicting emotion within. Your fight or flight instincts had kicked in long before your battle with Jack the Ripper, and it remained strong within you even as you stood wobbling in your stance. Purple clad, former rooks stood about in the shadows, their malicious snickers echoing off the walls and sitting on his knees before you was your mentor. His legs were spread, perfectly done suit torn and revealing a well built torso below, and his riding jacket flown wide open. He was weaponless- and his arms were tied behind his back with a piece of rope connecting his wrists to bound ankles. His hazel hues were wide, his chest heaving as he watched your form stagger in its spot.

It was like those old fighting rings he used to brawl in; people hanging around the edges and in the shadows while the brawlers danced in the sand around the middle. Except- there wasn't any weapons allowed in the ring. This was an exception however. It was made clear when the light that shown in the area illuminated the blood covering the ground, though it was mixed with your attacker's. Jack the Ripper, standing behind your mentor with his torn pillow case to reveal his sick smirk that tugged his lips upwards. One strong hand gripped his former mentor's shoulder, and then other had the prongs ready in case Jacob dared to move.

Fear;

Forget Everything And Run. That was what your instincts were screaming, your eyes sweeping a glance out at the door behind you. You could travel into the streets of London and drag yourself to Abberline, but you didn't have word from the notorious criminal before you that his own men wouldn't attack. It caused you to draw your lower lip below your teeth, slowly chewing on the soft flesh while turning your gaze back before you.

Your mentor look broken, weary and so sad. He was the very picture- the very definition of a person who lost everything he's ever known. He didn't want you to be his apprentice when it first started. He was scared you would end up dead like the others; It was constantly revealed with how hard he pushed you in practice. He didn't want to lose you. Even if that meant that he had to be harsh and cruel just like the man he despised- then by God he would be just that.

He taught you how to wield your first battling knife- he taught you how to move in the shadows- he taught you to simply love yourself. Even if he had turned into the serious straight faced mentor that clearly went against his beautiful and rowdy personality, he still managed to teach you that it was important to keep yourself- to not lose any glimmer or ounce of hope

So you've decided. You hated being the cowardly, weak and hopeless damsel in distress. Your hand reached into your own dark riding coat, brushing against the blood soaked shirt of yours and grabbling the hilt of your Kurkuri.

It was one that was made by Jacob Frye himself 20 years ago. It was an assassin's edition, specifically set for Master Rank and you being able to hold it and use it just before you reached Master Rank was an honor you held dear to your heart and every inkling of your soul.

Face Everything And Rise.

That was your FEAR. It directly embodied your desire to take down the creature that caused your mentor heartache. Jack the Ripper was the one who caused Jacob's pain and suffering, and Jack ultimately made the mistake of bringing you into this world. You had nothing except Jacob to lose- and not even the roaring fires of hell could save Jack. You would die, burn alive in hell, and come back to life to repeat it all ten fold if you had to, before you let your mentor suffer. It was a vow you made yourself, and God strike you should you break that vow.

Your riding boots thumped lightly across the ground, body spinning and one hand reaching into your pouch and you slammed a smoke bomb into the ground. White smoke assaulted the air, causing Jack to go into a coughing fit and wave a gloved hand around. Your body slinked low in the ground, moving until you landed on the man's back and sunk your blade at the base of his neck.

A blood curling howl filled the air, your crimson stained teeth baring like a wolf to its opponent and you twisted the item before yanking it out. Torn flesh followed the blade, causing Jack to stumble forward and from Jacob while you shoved him away from you. Standing tall and proud, you twirled your blade within a hand and gripped the hilt, head raising and looking at your opponent through your lower lashes.

Blood speckled the area, Jack weakly turning and reaching for you. You had paused in your stance of staring down your enemy to release Jacob. It had been a mistake, feeling Jack's prong sink into your skin through your clothing. Your head flew back, knees falling to the ground and Jack following suit as he dragged you to bleed out on the sand with him. Your eyes drooped, listening to his breathing as you smiled slowly to yourself.

"The good will always win Jack..." you muttered, hearing him chuckle at your words. "I'll see you in hell soon," you added, too weak to be able to send him a glance over your shoulder. You could tell however, Jack was dead. His breathing was gone and silence echoed around. It was then that Jacob gripped your body, shoving the deranged killer from you and scooping you into his arms. His boots thumped across the cobblestone, the mist of dawn appearing as the sky turned to that beautiful dull grey before it was sprinkled with the pinks and reds of the early sun. The buildings around were dull and lifeless, and no one was out except for your mentor crying out for you to stay with him.

"Don't you dare leave me ___! You promised!" He begged you, careful not to wound you any farther with the item precariously shoved into your back. You already had extensive damage on your body- and you were too exhausted from the brawl you had before cutting to the chase. You would bleed out, or you would succumb to your injuries. Whichever one came first and that made you afraid.

Tears brimmed your eyes, watching as his hazel hues searched for a doctor. The voices around you dulled, head leaning back and body being handled over to someone else as you watched your mentor. He followed after, uncaring of the state he was currently in and only focused his mission on his only remaining apprentice.

The one he wanted so desperately; the one he knew that could succeed and...

Yet, you both knew that you would most likely die in the end.

So when your eyelids flutter closed and a peaceful smile settled on your lips, you made sure to settle your pounding heart and pray a quiet prayer to who was listening above; that Jacob received happiness in the end. He deserved it after going through so much...

And it seemed your prayer was beautifully granted. Your eyes opened, body aching and completely bandaged up. Sitting in the chair beside your bed within the hospital was none other than Jacob Frye. Sitting across from him was his elder sibling, Evie and not so far away was Emmett Frye, the man perched and looking out the window.

Those would be the last three thriving Assassins in London had you died. Had you died, you were sure Jacob would've died drowning in his tears and grief. Had you died- you felt your own tears brimming and you willed yourself to not cry. Doing just that, you took in a shaky inhale and alerted their attention. Jacob was quick to rise to his feet, his large hand gently enveloping yours as he brought it up to cradle it to his chest.

"I thought I lost you- I thought I had to tell the council you were dead," his hazel eyes were glassy, and they were swollen from his tears. His voice was lighter on several octaves, and he sounded as if he were just about to cry.

You managed to give him a reassuring smile, the sun brimming through the windows and warming up the normally cold room. "Mentor... You would have to get rid of me a bit harder than that," you answered with a small giggle. Your fingers immediately laced with his once given the opportunity, and your gaze traveled up to his features. He bent over, his body angled and lips parted for a moment before he gently kissed you. A smile formed on your lips as you managed to gently kiss back before he pulled away completely. Your eyes fluttered, looking up into his hazel hues as you breathed out,

"A man once told me that fear had two different meanings. So i took the one that appealed most: I opted to face everything and rise before I'd let myself run. "

Jacob grinned then, using his free hand to brush some hair away from your forehead as you spoke. "Smart man." He informed with a snicker; the smile and lighthearted attitude was completely perfect for him- and it was then that you realized that he was perfect.

Even when broken.
