Demi's POV
I had tears in my eyes when Alex told me about Marley I know exactly what she felt I lost my best friend when I was 13 he was my world he was the only one who knew I was lesbian and he never judged me about it he always respected me and protected me from hate.
"When I was growing up in Texas I had a friend who past away when I was 13 his name was Trenton we grew up together. He would protect me from bullies and he got hate for it but he didn't care his friends respected him for doing it he would walk me home and he cared so much for me like if I was apart of his family one day I was talking to him on the phone and it was just a normal day for us we would talk about music and tv shows movies stuff like that even though he lived right across the street from me he seemed happy like usual even when people would bully him and I he still had a smile on his face. The next day I waited for him by our favorite park under the tree, we would always wait for each other under our favorite tree I remember he carved Demi and Trenton Best friends Forever 2/14/99 but that day he didn't show up so I walked to school alone. I went to class and all his friends were there I went up to them and said "Hey have you guys seen Trenton.?" he looks at me worried and says "No we haven't we were gonna ask you the same question." then my best friend Marissa comes up to me worried and says "Nobody's seen Trenton or heard of him maybe he's sick or something." "I think he is but I talked to him last night he seemed fine." After school I walked home and when I reached my neighborhood there were paramedics and police officers there and I saw my mom crying she saw me and I ran to her "Mom why are the paramedics here in front of Trenton's house is he okay I want to see him." she looks at me and says "Demi um Trenton had a accident and he um-." she began sobbing and I was crying already but when she was about to speak Trenton came out in a stretcher and I ran to him and held his hand but he didn't hold it back he wasn't moving I said to him 'Trenton please wake up you're my best friend remember you always told me that and I felt the same way I love you you're like a big brother to me please don't leave me you're my Nightingale you're my world you kept me alive when I wanted to give up please." I was sobbing and the paramedics pulled him away from me and one of the paramedics came up to me and said "Sweetie can you bring you're mom over here please." my mom walks up to him and he tells her something and she begins to sob. Dallas my sister and my sister Maddie came running towards me Eddie my step dad went with my mom and they began to sob, my sister and I made a circle and prayed and my mom came up to us and said "Girls um Trenton h-he's...gone he's in heaven now." I remember seeing my sisters crying and I remember saying "You're lying he's not dead he's not dead No!." I ran to my room and I shut the door I looked at a picture we had taken together I cried all night and that was the first night I cut myself the pain was too much but now he's my guardian angel."
"Demi he's watching over you and protecting you I bet right now he's up there with Marley watching over the both of us."
"Thanks Alex and yeah he is I loved him so much and after all these years I still miss him and when you told me your story about Marley I can tell you and Hailey still miss her."
"Yeah we do October 20th was when we lost Marley it was hard but she's in heaven now."
"Wait what did you say.?" I said
"October 20th 2005 I was almost 11 why.?" Alex said
I couldn't believe it we went through a lot together but this was different we lost our best friends on the exact same day.
"That's the day I lost my best friend."
We hug each other and cried together I felt that we grew stronger our bond now became unbreakable knowing that we know exactly how we felt and what we've been through made us feel like we can get through anything.
"Their our Nightingales and they will always protect us Demi."
We get up and walk downstairs to watch the movie and eat lunch but when we made it downstairs we heard banging on the door Alex has a worried expression on her face she runs to the door and opens it and it's Wilmer and he has his cell phone in his hand and he looks out of breath and what he said shocked the both of us.
"Jasmine was spotted near Calabassas our officers caught her she's in police custody."
I look over at Alex and she looks shocked I run up to Wilmer and I hug him and say
"Thank you Thank y-you so much!."
I grab Alex and I hug her she hugs me back and we both hug Wilmer he smiles and say's
"Demi I'm just doing my job she was charged with evading arrest, kidnapping and attempted murder she won't be bothering you for a long time."
Wilmer leaves and Alex and I began to cheer our asses off Alex runs all over the house and she takes off her shirt and spins it around like crazy I laugh and start dancing with her she stops for a second and she puts her back on.
"Babe I was really enjoying you dancing with your shirt off why did you put it back on.?"
"I still have the bruises and the bullet wound on my chest I doubt you would want to see that babe." Alex says
"I didn't even notice them babe c'mon let's eat the food's getting cold." I said
We watch the movie and ate our food making this day one of the best days I ever had with my girlfriend.
*One week later*
Alex's POV
It's my first day back at school since the race and my first day back since the kidnapping school was cancelled for a week due to the police investigation and I was nervous to go back. Demi was driving me since we do live next to each other during the car ride I think she could tell I was nervous because I didn't stop staring at my shaking hands, Why was I nervous I wish I knew then Demi held my hand and said
"Babe it's okay everything's gonna be okay don't worry I'm here okay." Demi said
"Thanks Demi I'll be fine." I said
We get to school and I walk inside the halls to see a huge banner and everyone coming up to me saying.
"Welcome back Alex!"
all my friends run up to me and hug me and they were crying especially Hailey everyone decorated my locker and threw confetti on me and said "We love you so much and we're glad you're better and that you're safe." I laugh and say "Thanks you guys I'm glad that I'm back and that we're champions! everyone yelled and cheered and the bell rang it was first period and I had English with Demi we get our stuff and we're all walking to her class and Hailey pulls me aside and hugs me.
"I thought I lost you you're my best friend and when I heard you died I remembered where we were when we were in that hospital room when we lost Marley."
she began sobbing in my arms and I said.
"I know I know I stayed I'm alive now when I flat lined I saw her you know Marley she said she never left our side and that she loves us and she'll always protect us."
"She was always there for us and she'll always be there when I heard they found you Perla,Jennifer, Jolene and I were watching the news and we cried but we heard the gunshot and we saw you covered in a stretcher and we just started crying."
"I took the bullet for Demi she found me and Jasmine tried to kill her I didn't want that to happen but I knew Marley was protecting me that night that I was found and she protected me."
"Thank god you're better and what's going on between you and Demi I noticed you guys are close."
My heart started beating fast I told her
"We're neighbors and she saved my life and I love her for that." I said
"That's amazing that she found you and that's cool c'mon we're gonna be late for class." Hailey said
Demi's POV
I'm setting everything for class and Alex walks in with Hailey and Alex is covered in confetti I laugh and walk up to her and whisper in her ear
"Babe you have confetti in your hair." in a seductive tone
"Thanks babe." she whispers back
As class starts we start with journals like always and the topic was "What is one obstacle you had to overcome." and once we were done I asked if anybody would like to come up and present it's usually Alex that goes up but this time it was all her friends and Hailey was the first one to speak Alex looked surprised by it and Hailey began to speak.
"One of the obstacles I had to overcome was finding out one of our best friends was kidnapped and nowhere to be found I remember going to the search parties and staying up all night to find her because her and I had grown up together. When we were 10 almost 11 we lost one of our closets friends when she died we only had each other a few years later we met 3 friends that are to this day one of the amazing group of friends we ever had and I'm glad to call them my sisters. When I thought you were gone I couldn't believe it but when you came back I was so relieved I was so happy because I knew you're strong and that Marley was looking down on you and protecting you from harm I love you Alex you're our best friend and we're glad you're okay and Ms Lovato you saved Alex's Life and we're grateful for that if it wasn't for you Alex wouldn't be here today we're lucky to call you one of our friends and we love you and the school wants to give you something as a reward for heroism .
I had tears in my eyes that was the sweetest thing anyone has ever written for anyone in ages I walk up to the girls and hug them Alex gets up and we're all hugging each other then the whole class joins in and we're all hugging Alex and the class is hugging me as well then I notice Stephanie she looks annoyed as always I roll my eyes and I wipe my tears and smile and say
"Thanks you guys and I'm excited for the assembly and I'm honored you guys did that for me and I'm glad Alex is okay I love her and I love all of you guys. Since today is just a regular day let's watch a movie!.' I said
The whole class cheers and we watch a movie and we're all together again.
