~Bethany~

"I can't believe I tried ta lie and say she ain't look like me." August said and we shared a laugh.

"Neither can I." I replied as we both looked down at our baby girl asleep in her crib. "I'm glad you made the decision to be in her life."

From the corner of my eye, I saw him turn to look at me.

" If I'm in Angel's life then I'm in yours too."

"Not necessarily..." He raised an eyebrow. "Nevermind."

"Mhmm. Now when is lunch time around here. A nigga got the munchies like a mofo!" He started rubbing his stomach.

I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Relax." He laughed when he saw the look on my face. "I'm completely sober, I swea'. But I am hungry tho. Ain't had no real food since I left Cali this morning."

"Oh that's perfect. I wanted to take you somewhere to eat and show you around Atlanta a little. Your own personal model/tour guide." I smirked and flipped my hair.

"Oh yeah I forgot you was lil Ms. Model now." He bit the corner of his lip and looked me up and down. "You look good baybeh."

I smiled and felt my face heat up.

"Thank you."

"No problem." He grinned.

I awkwardly broke eye contact after a few seconds.

"So um...I'll just, go uh...we'll meet downstairs in 10." I muttered before walking out of the room quickly.

Ugh!

Over a year later and he still had this effect on me.

~•August•~

I chuckled to myself.

I see she still gets nervous around me.

That's my girl.

I leaned down into the crib and placed a gentle kiss on Angel's chubby cheek and then stared for a few seconds.

Wow, she's beautiful.

Thank you God for blessing me with my Angel.

I smiled to myself before walking downstairs.

~•Bethany•~

"I don't understand why this is such an issue for you." I groaned, slipping the dress over my head.

"It's an issue because I don't trust that nigga." Nathan mumbled.

I rolled my eyes and walked back into the bedroom.

"And why is that?"

"I just know the minute he has some time alone with you, he's gonna make a move. I just fucking know it!"

I cringe slightly as he punched the palm of his hand.

"Would you mind not raising your voice at me? And for Christ's sake, relax. August has been here all of two hours and he hasn't done anything for you to be upset about."

"I don't fucking care how long he's been here. When will he be leaving?"

I turned away from him.

"Whenever he or I decides that he should." I replied simply, fluffing my hair in my full-length mirror.

"Seriously? You really about to let this nigga stay up in your house with your daughter-"

I spun around quickly.

"August is Angel's father!" I hissed. "She's our daughter and he has the right to see her, just like I do. That's what you just won't understand."

"Man, fuck this." He sucked his teeth amd watched me apply some lip gloss. "And now you tryna look good for him like it matters. Only nigga you need to be looking good for and dressing up for is me. What...you tryna get him back?"

I huffed and crossed my arms but don't reply.

"Mm, okay" He nodded his head slowly before standing, staggering slightly. "I can't let you play me like that. You need to choose."

My jaw dropped slightly.

Really?

What the hell has gotten into him?

"Are you kidding me?" I asked in disbelief.

"Choose." He repeats.

"Nathan, you're being irrational and childish."

"Fine. I'll choose for you." He slipped his shirt back over his head and put his shoes back on. "I'm going home."

"Why? Nathan I understand you're a little jealous but you don't have to-"

He chuckled deeply, almost evilly, and I stop talking.

"Jealous of who? Him? Please." He scoffed. "Ain't shit to be jealous of."

"Then why are you acting this way? You're drunk, cussing at me, being rude to August when you don't even know him, what's going on? Talk to me." I pleaded.

He doesn't even glance at me before walking out of my room.

"Nath-...Nathan." I call him, striding after him.

"Nah."

I grab his arm just as he reached the front door.

"Can we just talk about this."

He pulled his arm away from me before yanking the door open and walking out.

I stood still for a few moments, still in shocked at his behavior.

"Did he hurt you?" August asked behind me.

I shake my head, still staring at the door.

"I'm fine."

"You don't deserve ta be spoken to like that. That nigga don't deserve you, B."

"He's just upset. I should have told him you were coming." I turned to face him.

"Are you ready?" I asked, ignoring his statement.

"Yeah. Bethany-"

"Great. I'll grab Angel and we can go." I walked past him and up the stairs.

I carefully picked Angel up, grabbed her diaper bag and made my way downstairs.

August grabbed the car seat from me and opened the garage door, allowing me to walk out ahead of him.

I opened my mouth but he cut me off.

"Don't even thank me, it's the least I can do."

I pressed my lips together.

"Okay." I mumbled, taken-aback.

I unlocked my Hybrid and place Angel's diaper bag in the backseat as August buckled her in, before we both get in the front.

I opened the garage door and back out.

"You did buckle her in correctly, right?" I asked, turning off of my street.

"Duh." He scoffed, glancing at me. "I know what I'm doing, B."

"Mhmm." I rolled my eyes. "You sure do.
'I gotta go meet her now?' " I mocked him in a fake deep voice. " 'I'm not ready. I-I-I can't.' "

I pretended to shake and bite on my nails as he rolled his eyes.

"Ha ha, ion even sound like that." He pinched my arm.

"Ow!" I exclaimed, rubbing the spot he pinched.

I glanced at the road quickly before socking him in the shoulder.

"Shit! Okay you win." He surrendered, then mumbled, "Heavy-handed ass."

I pop his leg.

"I heard that. Stop cursing around Angel." I scolded.

"It ain't like she can understand me anyways." He turned around to look at her before shrugging. "Plus she's still sleep."

"What did I say? She's getting to where she starts repeating stuff now. I don't want her to pick up your bad habits."

"Well! Excuse me!" He gasped dramatically and placed a hand over his heart. "Yes ma'am."

"You get on my nerves I swear." I laughed, stopping at a red light.

"You had my baby tho." He held up an invisible cup and sipped it. "Mm mm mm! This some good tea. You want some?"

I unlocked the car doors.

"Get out." I tried to say with a straight face.

"Ain't."

"Yes. Get out."

"Nah, I'm good." He smiled.

"August."

"Bethany."

"Anthony."

"Chyanne."

"Get out of my car."

"Bethany if you don't drive ta this damn restaurant. My stomach bout ta eat itself. I might be small but damn, skinny niggas gotta eat too."

I busted out laughing before pulling off from the light.

Not too exciting, but eh👋

I promise there is plenty of drama and excitement to come!
