She shook her head a few times, and stood up. Lucas stared into her eyes and gave her a questioning look. Riley shrugged back.
She chased her best friend --- ex best friend out the door.
"Maya! Maya!"
The blonde hair whipped in front of her, and Riley ran faster.
She knew she could catch up, Maya was in heels and she was in runners.
Riley's brown hair whipped all over the place, but she tried her best to ignore it. A little faster.
She had to catch her before she made her way to her car. If she got into her car, she'd drive away.
She had to ask her questions. She had so many on her mind.
One big sprint.
She pushed her legs as fast as she could, and charged full force into Maya.
Bang
The two girls flew off each other, and landed straight onto their butts on the floor.
Laughter escaped Riley's mouth, and she heard Maya giggling too.
She looked over at her face, and smiled.
After the laughing died down, Maya stood up.
"Matthews."
"Maya-"
"Oh look!" Maya snarls sarcastically. "She talks. She actually talks."
"Oh look," Riley tries to say back. But she stops at her lack of words.
"You've never been good at come backs, have you?"
"No Peaches, no I haven't," Riley whispers.
Maya stares at her ex best friend. She tries to hold in tears.
God she missed her. She missed her so damn much.
"Riles, can we talk?" Maya stutters.
"Please," Riley sighs back. "We have to talk."
And as Maya opens her mouth, the Principle walks out of her office.
"Girls, shouldn't you be in class?"
"Umm... yes... we were just getting there."
"Oh look," She says clasping her hands together. "It's Miss. Hart."
"Sup," Maya replies.
"Smiley kitten and Hart," She barks. "Back to class, and then detention afterwards!"
Riley whines. Maya rolls her eyes.
They then walk back to class, linking arms. Having no idea how they had just made up..... but they knew they were well on their way too.

"We've got a date after school, Riles," Lucas whines.
"Well, I've got detention," Riley says back with a pouty lip. "Sorry."
"But-"
Riley does something she doesn't do too often in public, especially in front of class mates.
She goes up on her tippy toes and kisses him on the lips. "Sshhh."
"Okay, fine. Go do detention."
"Thanks sweetie," Riley says with a smile.
She turns to face a frowning Maya at the door. But as soon as their eyes meet, she smiles.
"Coming Honey?"
"Yes Peaches!"
She skips over to her, feeling many people's eyes on her. But who cared? She got to be with Maya again!
They walk towards the office, and Maya turns to her --- well, she didn't know what Riley was right now -- and smiles.
"The office staff usually hang out in the teacher's lounge with beers while we're in the office, so we'll have plenty of time to talk."
"Beer? Isn't that alcoholic?"
"Yep."
"Then why do they have it at school? That's breaking the rules," Riley gasps.
"Not everyone follows the rules, Riles," Maya says as they walk into the principle's office.
"Okay. Let's do this."
The two girl's sit down in the detention chairs, and wait for Mrs. Greenfray to leave. As soon as she does, Maya turns to Riley.
"Why are you ignoring me?"
Riley laughs. "Me? I think you're the one that's ignoring me!"
"No," Maya persists. "Farkle, Lucas, Zay, Smackle, and you have been ignoring me. Why?!"
Riley laughs. "Peaches, you told us to leave you alone and that you'd do something terrible if we talked to you again!"
Maya frowns. "When did I ever say that?"
"Well.... you didn't necessarily say it. You wrote us notes."
"No, no I never did that."
Riley's expression goes into a smirk. "C'mon Maya. It's not funny! What you said on their gave me a fright!"
"Riley, I never wrote any notes. I promise."
"Tell me the absolute truth, ring power."
Maya looks at their ringless fingers, and pretends they have rings on.
"I never write you any notes. You started ignoring me ever since the Ski Lodge. Ever since I gave you-"
"We got notes, and they had your name on it."
"Do you will have your note?" Maya asks.
"Well ya. I keep it so that I won't forget."
"Give it."
Riley fishes through her bag, and hands Maya a small crinkled red sticky note.

"What?" She asks.
"Oh my goodness. I cannot believe you."
"What?!"
"You ended our relationship over a sticky note that I didn't even write!"
"What do you mean?! It has your name on it!"
Maya laughs angrily. "When has my writing ever been that messy to you. And when have I every signed my name as 'Maya P?'"
"Uhhhh..... well now that you put it that way...."
"Riles, we just wasted like two valuable months of our lives," Maya states.
"I'm sorry," Riley whispers. "I'm sorry for not talking to you."
"I forgive you. I'm sorry for not talking to you either," She whispers back.
"Love you Peaches," Riley says.
"I love you more Honey," Maya replies.
And then the girls pull each other in for a hug.
"Best friends forever? No matter what?"
"Thunder," Riley says with a raised hand.
"Lightning."
"Now let's go find my boyfriend!"

Maya didn't necessarily want to see Riley's boyfriend. She wanted to just see everyone but Lucas.
But that wasn't possible. So she'd have to struggle through watching Riley and Lucas being well, a couple. Up close.
The two girls walked in silence, and after a few minutes Riley turned to her best friend.
"Do you still have feelings for Lucas?"
This could be her chance. She could finally get her feelings out in the open.
But then she remembered that she and Riley just made up. She couldn't ruin their relationship again.
"No, no I don't," Maya replied.

"He said he'd meet me here," Riley spoke aloud. "What time is it?"
"4."
"Hurry up Lucas!" Riley whined.
And at that moment, Lucas walked into the room.
And for Maya, time stopped. It looked as if an angel was walking towards her, and all she wanted to do was wrap her arms around him and apologize.
But then she remembered, she had nothing to be sorry about. Well, other than having feelings for him.
"Oh...." Lucas trails off. "Maya."
"Hey," She says softly.
"We can talk to you now?" He asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Well," Riley says as she wraps an arm around Lucas, "Maya didn't actually write that note. We basically stopped talking to Maya for no reason."
"Oh...... sorry," He says.
"I'm sorry too," She replies.
Lucas walks over to her, and he opens up his arms.
Maya walks into them.
She'd been waiting for his hug for months now.
