"Mommy we have to get the fruity snacks for my lunch" your son said excitedly. Then he ran off into the next aisle. You sighed as you ran after him.
You were a single parent and proud of it. Whenever your son asked about his father you told him the truth. You didn't know much about him. He's 4 and doesn't fully understand yet but he will one day.
Catching up with him you accidentally bumped carts with a man. I looked up as Trevor, your son, ran towards you with the box of fruit snacks.
Looking at the man, you apologized. He smiled at me and spoke.
"It's all good y/n. You still looking good baby" he said. You stopped and looked at him confused.
He caught on that you were lost and laughed. Yet you were standing there holding your son tight scared.
"Chill out baby it's me, De'Vante. You know Jason's best friend from high school?" He questioned you. He looked you dead in the eye and suddenly memories started flooding your mind.
First seeing him around your parent's home, the flirting that made you all closer, and not to mention you two secretly dating because of the age difference. He was 3 years older than you but that's how you always liked your men. Finally you ending up pregnant and him leaving to become a singer.
You gave him a fake smile as you picked up Trevor trying to leave quickly. Devante had other plans though. He grabbed your arm causing you to stop.
"Y/n wait. I'm sorry I up and left you and all that. It wasn't intentional to hurt you. Now we don't have to talk about getting back together or nothing but I would love if we could catch up on how your peoples are doing." He said pulling out a piece of paper and writing his cell phone, house phone, and pager info down.
You sighed and took the paper with a slight smile. Then he looked down at the boy and a look of confusion crossed his face a second.
"This your nephew?"he asked.
You shook your head no and he spoke again.
"Your cousin?" He asked. You could tell he was piecing things together.
"Your brother" he asked and you shook your head no again.
"Uhhh are you just babysitt-"he started before you cut him off
"He's my son" you said and all the color drained from his face.
" How um how old are you buddy?" He asked Trevor.
Your son looked at you for approval and you nodded.
"I'm four sir" he said smiling.
Devante looked up at you and wiped his face.
"He's mine ain't he" he asked and you looked at him and nodded.
All of a sudden he started swaying side to side. He gave a nervous smile and passed out.
