Chapter 42

‘Vera, shake on it’.

Here I was standing in front of my brother; a big smile on his face as Cody stood next to me, his elbow nudging me every so often.

I had finally agreed somehow against my will that I would stop attacking my brother and actually try to get along and Cody had thought somehow that a simple handshake would seal the deal.

‘I am not touching him; it’s bad enough I have to see him every day’.

Dingo frowned at me; his hand held out like he was ready to move on but he had another thing coming if he thought it was going to be that easy.

‘Vera, take his hand before I make you’.

‘You can’t control me Cody!  He’s evil; he is not worth my trust’.

Cody was now rubbing his temples; having to put up with me apparently difficult for him lately.

‘Vera please, it’s really not that hard’.

Looking down at Dingo’s hand; I considered it for a minute, my hand slowly coming up from my side as all went silent.

‘Think of this way Sis, you shake now, you don’t have to touch me again, it’s your call’.

Still torn between wanting to trust my own brother, I quickly grabbed his hand, shaking it so quick that any human probably would have missed it, before turning on my heel and walking over to the stairs.

I heard Dingo chuckling as I walked away, I could even feel his eyes looking at the back of my head.

‘You haven’t changed much Sis; I’ll see you for dinner’.

Stomping my foot as I reached the stairs, I grunted regretting my decision to play nice Luna already, my toe stubbing on the steps as I climbed them; my face turning a raging red colour.

I didn’t even look back as I reached my room, slamming the door hard I walked over to the balcony, opening the doors gently knowing how fragile they were as I hopped onto the railing and took deep breaths of the quiet afternoon.

It was going to be a long rest of the day; it must have only been like three in the afternoon and I was already ready to rip my brother apart.

Hearing my stomach growl violently, my own body was betraying me.  Hearing the front door slam below me, I watched as Dingo made it his way out onto the lawn, his wolf looking around like he could sense my eyes on him.

‘Where are you Vera’?

Snicking at Dingo’s attempt, all he had to do was look up but that would be too difficult.  Sliding across the railing so I was directly above him, maybe we could call a truce just for now.

‘I’m above you…..’

Jumping down before Dingo could process my words; I landed with a loud thump on his back, it taking all Dingo’s force not to fall over from the impact.

‘Vera, what the hell’!

Laughing as I clung to Dingo’s back, he tottered around on his feet before falling on his stomach, the growl coming from his lips telling me I had pushed a button.

‘You know what Dingo; I think I can handle this truce as long as you keep doing silly things like walking under my balcony’.

Dingo tried to kick me off, my own form climbing off and around Dingo’s flailing limbs as he got to his feet, brushing himself off.

‘Can you not be serious for just a minute Vera’?

Standing there innocently, I just watched Dingo; my ego now feeling a lot better after I’d tackled him.

‘Let me think….no’.

Dingo was face palming his forehead, the frustration clear on his features as he tried to calm himself.

‘Can we start fresh’?

Say what?  Dingo wanted to start over, was that even possible since we’d grown up together?

‘I’m sorry…..’

Dingo seemed slightly amused by my dense mind, his face telling me he definitely had something to say but was resisting saying it.

‘Vera, you’re making this difficult again………’

A vein popping in my skull, I went to turn and walk away, realising my wolf was ready to surface again and Cody would deck me for attacking Dingo twice in the same day.

Dingo grabbed my shoulder before I could cover the distance, my head snapping around to look at him, his eyes were begging for me to listen.

‘Fine, but you better remember I’m Luna around here and you cannot control me’.

Dingo let me go, his hands held out defensively, ‘I can live with those terms, now I know a certain Alpha who is getting a little jealous watching us……’

Looking back at the house, I could just make out Cody’s features peeking through the window at me.  Rolling my eyes as I walked back towards the house, I heard Dingo shift and take off behind me; he must have enjoyed his position of importance right now.

Opening the front door, I slipped in quickly, Cody immediately coming to wrap his arms around me.

‘Now that wasn’t so hard was it Vera’?

My body giving into Cody’s touch, I kept my mouth shut, pretending I didn’t hear him as he squeezed me tight to his chest.

‘We have a celebration to go to in a few hours so I suggest you get all your energy off your chest now, so our pack doesn’t kick us out’.

Going to object to Cody’s assumption, he slammed his hand against my mouth, silencing me before I could abuse him.

‘I’m going out for a few hours, Charlie here will watch you like usual; please do not destroy the house’.

The smirk forming on my face pressed against Cody’s hand, his eyes telling me he knew I had already planned something.

‘I mean it Vera’

Cody’s hand now leaving my lips, I said goodbye to him, my ears already picking up Charlie was busy playing the Xbox that would soon be mine.

As soon as Cody was out the front door, I was bolting over to the couch where Charlie sat; ruffling his hair as I plonked down next to him.

‘I believe it’s my turn Charlie’.

Two or so hours passed and I hadn’t even dressed for this random celebration with the Imperial Pack.  Apparently our pack was going to celebrate our win tomorrow some time; we just didn’t make the cut I thought.

‘Charlie, don’t make me throw you outside, this is my house’!

Charlie scoffed at me, his body stealthily positioned so he was standing on the back of the lounge, with the controller held high above his head.

‘You had your turn Luna’!

Chuckling, I ran at Charlie, my arms grabbing his legs as we both went flying over the couch and into the hard floor boards.

Seeing Charlie had the controller now held protectively under his shirt, I was quick to get to my feet, grabbing some random pillow off the lounge as I ran at Charlie.

‘Vera, I’m going to turn grey when I’m twenty five if you don’t stop”!

Slamming the pillow into Charlie’s skull, he shoved me away so he could get to his feet, his footsteps now echoing through the house as he took off up the stairs.

‘Bet you can’t catch me Vera’!

Dropping the pillow, I dashed after him; our bodies swivelling around the railing as Charlie took the steps three at a time, he was clearly enjoying this, he just didn’t want to admit it.

‘Over my dead body Charles!  You forget who runs this joint’!

Charlie had burst out laughing, tripping up the last step as he did.  Jumping onto his back, my fingers began to run above his rib cage until I was tickling his armpits, making him squeak whilst trying very hard not to laugh.

‘Vera, what the……’

Charlie couldn’t seem to contain himself anymore, his thunderous chuckles echoing off the house, thrashing under my weight, I couldn’t help but laugh too at what I had done.

Bucking around like he was a horse, Charlie somehow got a good grip on my knee as he flung me backwards, my body flying down the stairs as I landed on the bottom step, my body squashing my small head.

Too caught up in the fun, I didn’t even realise Cody was back, his scent now filling the house.

‘WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON’!

I heard Charlie immediately take off up the hallway, my laughing ceasing as I felt someone’s presence in front of me.

‘Vera, what are you doing’!

Lifting my head, there stood Cody, his mature self looking between me and where Charlie had been like he was trying to figure out what had happened.

‘Ah, I was ….. teaching Charlie a lesson’.

Cody sighed; his anger seeming to fade a bit as he quickly scooped me up in his arms, now walking up the stairs like normal people did.

‘You’re not even dressed Vera; it’s almost time to leave’.

Carrying me, now slinging me over his shoulder, I couldn’t help but giggle at Cody’s attempt to try and control me; even after all this time he still wouldn’t give up.

Fast forwarding past Cody’s attempts at being intimate whilst I was trying to change, I slammed open his bedroom door; the dress I was now wearing, a cool silver with a hint of blue in it.  It’s tight fitting silk hugging my body as I tried to get away from Cody feeling exposed.

When I was trying to change Cody would interrupt, his wolf obviously in the mood as he gently kissed my neck where he’d marked me, with me pushing him away every time.

‘You know for a Luna, who was seduced and obsessed with me only days ago, you seem to be trying to get away from me a lot Vera…..’

Holding my hand up to silence Cody, I ran downstairs, making sure to fly off the railing at the end.

There were she-wolves beginning to pile into the kitchen, food at the ready as they placed what they brought on the counter.  Hearing someone scoff near me, my eyes immediately turned to see Rob in all his sad glory sitting on the couch.

‘Well if it isn’t the wolf that doesn’t know the meaning of fun’.

Rob raised an eyebrow at me; it was pretty obvious he held more power than he did before just by looking at the way he leapt off the couch, now walking towards me.

‘As much as I enjoy your little grabs Vera, I’m Alpha now and I expect you to respect me’.

Mimicking Rob’s words with my hand, he seemed to be getting angrier than usual.  His face telling me he was expecting something.

‘Rob…. Let me tell you, if I backed off now I wouldn’t be Vera, now would I’?

Catching the hint of amusement behind my tone, Rob simply strode past me, my ears now registering the many wolves gathering around behind the house.

‘By the way Vera, I’ve decided I would like to form an alliance with your Alpha and you know what that means…………we’re going to be seeing a lot more of each other’.

My jaw dropping with such force you would think it was about to hit the ground, I watched Rob walk over to the back door, his eyes giving me one last look as he chuckled, his form disappearing outside.

Everything was set up much faster than I expected as I went outside twenty minutes later to see the tables like the pack meeting before all set up with the majority of the pack looking like it was already here.

It was quite noticeable though what the war had done.  Many she-wolves stood with their children, their eyes saying they were lost without their mates.

Stepping out onto the back patio, Cody had made his good old speech, whishing everyone the best and all that until Rob got up and said a few words before the celebrations seemed to get into full swing with music blaring from somewhere.

Rob soon walked off into the crowd, my eyes now registering he was introducing himself to my brother Dingo.  The only thing that was missing now was a song to highlight the ending of my story.

Hearing the song Just a Sip by one of my favourite country artists Luke Bryan, I headed to the dance floor where wolves gathered; someone tapping my shoulder as I looked around to see Cody smirking at me.

‘Didn’t know you were a fan Vera’

Returning my own mischievous smirk, I grabbed Cody’s hand and dragged him to the centre, my body grinding up against him, spinning around him as he stood there awe struck.

‘There’s a lot you still don’t know about me almighty Alpha, so I hope you’re taking notes’.
