Chapter 1
Scarlett’s pov
What?!
I can’t be a Lords match! I won’t be able to fight back. At least with a regular vampire, I would be able to fight back. If I fight him, my whole family could die! And my family cannot afford to die. You see, most of the world’s humans are slaves for vampires, or left on the streets to die. My family was part of the small fraction of humans that are well off.
You see it all started in 2015, on January 1. It was new years day, and as a parade was being broadcasted, King Simon made a video. He proposed war on the world. It lasted barely a month. The vampires were invincible, and weren’t beatable. They took over the world in no time after they won the war. There was a king, King Simon. 5 lords, Lord Harry Edward Styles, Lord Liam James Payne, Lord Louis William Tomlinson, Lord Zayn Javadd Malik, and Lord Niall James Horan. A new system came about. At age 18 you would be matched to a vampire, who now owned you, for most of your life, if not all. You could be their blood slave, sex slave or whatever they wanted. My parents were one of the lasts to have children on their own. My parents had us all on their own. The poorer vampires had to give you up at 30. You were then matched to another human, and forced to be married. Then forced to have kids. You get pregnant 2 times. My parents had 3 kids. We were all born before the vampires took over. I had 2 younger sisters, one of them 16, and the other 15.
The problem with being the Lord’s match, is that he is probably just going to drink me dry, and leave me. Then in a couple years he will be put in the match pool again.
We got on a train to go to the palace, wherever it is.
“hey are you ok?” Lord Niall said. I didn’t answer. I wouldn’t be able to without sassing him. “Answer me now!” he shouted. Tears poured down my face.
“Um well no.” I stuttered. I was awful.
“What’s wrong?”
“It doesn’t matter to you”
“Tell me now!” he screamed again.
This time my sass couldn’t be tamed. “You want to know what. Well here goes, my life started out fine. I was a happy 4-year-old when you fucking vampires took over! I am so done! You are just going to use me for your sex toy! Then when you are done with me you’re going to drink me dry and throw me in a pile with all your other walking talking empty blood bags! Ok so I am not fucking ok that you are about to pretty much rape me! Just like all the other stories about the Lords! Like you know the one where Liam killed a girl, because he humped too hard! You all think it is ok to go around doing what ever shit you want because you are fucking lords! Well you know what? It’s not ok! It’s NOT ok that I am never going to be able to take on step without asking permission, or without you commanding me to! It’s not ok that I can’t move a muscle without you telling me to! It’s not ok, that I basically am having my freedom ripped from me! And I am not going to fight for my life any less because you are a lord!” I screamed. Tears were staining my face. I couldn’t take it. I ran out of the cart. I ran into the next cart and went into a room with bunk beds. I slammed the door close. I locked it too, and sat down. My life was awful, and I sobbed about. I finally cried myself to sleep, on the floor.

Niall’s pov
As she screamed at me her eyes changed from bright green, to an empty green. There was no longer any sense of love in her eyes. When she finished yelling at me I was stunned. I never new she felt that way. She absolutely hated me and everyone else who was a vampire. We had taken the one thing from her that she cared most. Her freedom. And she wasn’t wrong about the other Lords. It is true about the horrible things that they had done. But not me. I had never harmed a soul. That was because of my gift.
She ran out of the train car. She had gone into the next one over, and was sobbing. I could feel it from my inner most senses. But this girl was different. She had a connection to me, which I didn’t even know was possible. Every time I saw her, my 4-leaf-clover necklace shined. It was usually, silver, but when she was around, it shined bright green. Never before has the necklace ever shined.
You see, I was one of the most powerful vampires alive. There was me. I had the ability to heal anyone, and was the greatest doctor ever. I could basically heal anyone, magical being or human, by snapping my finger. Next was Liam. He had the ability of being super smart. Zayn was in charge of the defense. He was the strongest, most athletic, and vicious of us all. Harry was in charge of the human relations. He had the ability to make anyone fall in love with anyone, including himself. He also had charm speak and could convince anyone to do anything. Louis was in charge of the animals. He could do everything Harry could do, but just with animals. King Simon had all of our powers, but was also magical. He did spells. He was like a witch, and vampire. Normal vampires had the vampire feats like super fast, much stronger than a human (not as strong as Zayn but), and super senses. Humans were the lowest on the chain, and had no powers.
However, Scarlett somehow had some magical cast on me. I was madly in love with her. Let her cool off Harry told me. There was one other thing. The five Lords could feel each other’s emotions. We could read each other’s minds if we wanted, and communicate through our minds.
I waited all night for her. Eventually I went to the car she was in and waited outside the door. My necklace shined brighter than the sun at this point. “Scar, are you alright?” I whispered. She opened the door, and I could see she had been crying again. “I’m sorry I cause you this much pain. When we get to the palace, it will be better.” I explain.
“Niall, but it won’t get better. And I know that every day, you will want to eat me. That is what pains me” This was painful for me to hear. I couldn’t believe it. She was scared that I would kill her. I pulled her into a huge hug. The boys always said my hugs were the best, they called it a Horan Hug.
Scarlett’s pov
Every time I see him my heart flutters. I don’t know what happened the matching night, but I know I am falling in love with a vampire. And it is scaring the crap out of me. Because every time I think he is going to drink me dry, I think no he would never do that. It is a problem. Ever since the vampires took over, I learned to never have personal relations with one.
Scar, are you alright?” he whispered. I open the door, and he looks at me in a loving way. My heart flutters, but then I remind myself that a lord could never be in love with me .“I’m sorry I cause you this much pain. When we get to the palace, it will be better.” he explains. “Niall, but it won’t get better. And I know that every day, you will want to eat me. That is what pains me” This was painful for me to tell him. The minute the words came out of my mouth I regret it. I see the pain in his eyes. Then he pulls me into a hug. And it is a good one. I hug back. “I’m sorry Niall” I whisper.
By now we are almost at the palace. He takes my hand back into the car we were in when I yelled at him. When he takes my hand, fireworks go down my spine. When we get into the car, I look out window. “Oh my gosh, it’s beautiful” I whisper. “I know. Every time I come in a train this way I am amazed.” he says. Then he wraps his arms around me. For some reason I let him. my mind is yelling at me to shake him off, but I am enjoying it. I turn around and face him. There is a huge smile on his face. By now I am smiling too. He leans in. I pull away though. He frowns.
“Not here. We need a better place. not the place that I said you would probably kill me soon” I say.
The train stops, and Niall helps me off. Two maids run up to him, and grab our bags. He takes my hand, and leads me to the front door to one of the 5 smaller castles. There is a big one in the middle that I am guessing is the kings. The inside is beautiful. He leads me up to one of the wings. There are two rooms across from each other.
“This is my room, and that is yours. Tomorrow I will give you the full tour of the kingdom. Go get ready for bed” he says. You may be thinking that we just woke up like 2 hours ago, but the royal kingdom is on a different time. It is 5 hours ahead. Also, we spent like 5 hours on the train. So it was basically 7 at night. My bags are on my bed, and I see a big closet. There are all kinds of clothes in the closet, but I pick out my sweats from Pink, and a plain white tee. I strip down and get in the shower. I take a long one, and then fishtail my hair, just like I have done many times before. I out my clothes on. I walk back into my room. It is giant. There is a huge bed. I get on top of the bed, and take a book from the bookshelf. I am surprised that there is a bookshelf. Only a few books are permitted now. I look at the cover and see it is called Hunger Games. I open the book and start to read it. It is not one of the few books permitted in the vampire nation, but if it is in the Lord’s palace, I think it is ok. I immediately get wrapped up in the book. I am taken to the other world of the book of Panem.
Niall’s pov
She goes into her room to shower. I shower as well. Then I get into a pair of sweats, and a tee. I wait till I hear her sit down on her bed, and then open the door to my room, and go into hers.
She it sitting on the bed in her room. In her hand she has a book, it is Hunger Games. It is one of my personal favorites. I actually like reading. All of the other lords can’t stand it, so almost all books were banned.
“That’s a good one. I read it before the books were banned. All books are allowed in my palace.” I say. She looks up, and I can tell she had no idea that I was in the room.
“Oh! Hey. Yeah it is good. I love reading. I have read the books allowed so many times.” she says. I go and sit down next to her. She puts the book down. I grab her hand. Fireworks shoot up my arm. I scoot closer to her. “You hungry?” I ask her.
“Kinda” she says. I quickly go to where her TV is in the room. Underneath is a mini bar. But it is not really mini. I pull out a small pizza. Then I turn the TV onto a movie channel and see it is Grease. One of my favorites. I jump on her bed, and take a bite of one of the slices. I hand her one. She takes a bite. We start to watch the movie. We finish the pizza, and I go throw the plate away. She leans on my shoulder, and I can feel her start to fall asleep. When the movie is over, I get up. I kiss her cheek, and go to my room. I get in bed and fall asleep.
