•Two Days Later•
~August~
I took the headphones off my head after recording the song for the hundredth time and sat them on the music stand before looking through the window.
"That was good Aug. We can go over editing and shit after you get back. You good to go." My studio engineer EJ said into the mic from the other room, giving me a thumbs up.
"Aight." I replied, stepping out of the recording booth and back into the studio.
I dapped Ej up taking a sip of my water bottle.
"So how come you to jetting back to Atlanta so soon?" EJ questioned. " Ain't you just get back from some party a week ago?"
The thing about EJ is, he's a hell of a music producer, but this nigga always tryna be in somebody else business.
I took a long swallow from the bottle before answering.
"Yeah."
He paused, then, "But why-"
"I got some business to take care of." I interrupted as I grabbed my jacket and open the door to leave. "We'll hook back up when I get back. Peace."
I closed the door behind me before he could reply.
Nearly 5 hours later, I touched down in Atlanta, and 30 minutes after that the cab dropped me off in front of Bethany's house.
You could imagine my surprise when B actually told me I could stay at her house instead of a hotel, something about wanting Angel to feel closer to me.
I walked up the driveway and stopped in front of the door.
I set my suitcase down and took a deep breath, suddenly nervous.
What if Nitride, I mean Nathan, managed to change Bethany's mind and she wants me to leave?
I can't do this...
I grabbed my suitcase and started to turn when the door opens.
I quickly turned around to see B staring at me from the open doorway in a tank top and pajama pants.
"August," She said softly.
My heart jumped a little at the sound of her voice and I turned to face her.
"Hey." I replied.
"Hey," She repeated, then smiled. "I'm glad you came."
"I'm glad you invited me. Na' can I come in or we jus gone keep talkin on ya porch?" I joked.
She rolled her eyes and stepped back from the doorway to invite me in.
She helped me settle in the guest room downstairs while she went upstairs to her room to change.
After freshening up a little, I made my way into the living room and sit down on the couch to wait for B.
She finally came downstairs in a pair of capris and a loose T-shirt with her hair in a ponytail.
I couldn't help but stare at her natural beauty.
She sat across from me on the loveseat and tucked her legs underneath her.
"Can I get you anything? A drink or snack?"
"Nah, I'm fine. Thank you tho'." I declined politely, still watching her. "You look good."
"Thank you." She avoided looking directly at me. "Sooo.."
"Soo?" I pressed, leaning foward and resting my elbows on my knees. "Where's our baby girl?"
A smile slid on her face before she spoke.
"Upstairs still sleeping."
"Oh. Well I can come back after she wakes up...." I started to stand but the look on her face made me quickly sit back down.
She crossed her arms and pursed her lips.
Uh oh.
"You've been back in my life for less than a month. Do you honestly think I'm gonna let you walk out on me for any reason?"
"My bad. I just..." I sighed and nervously wiped my palms on my pants. "I'm a lil nervous."
"I understand but on the bright side, you've done this before. Think about when you met Serena for the first time and just relax. Angel will love you August. You're her father."
"You right." I nodded in appreciation. "Thanks baybeh."
"No problem." She stood and held her hand out to me. "Now come on."
My eyes widened.
"Whea' we goin?" I questioned.
"To get Angel. The sooner the better."
"Nah. I just got here' and I already gotta..." I felt my breaths coming faster and faster.
Bethany walked over and wrapped her arms around me.
"Heeey, hey it's okay to be nervous. Just breathe. Everything will be fine. She's only one, Aug. If she sees you and cries, it's fine. It's not like she'll hate you for the rest of her life..."
I mugged her and she apologized.
"I'll go check on her now. You can stay down here for a little and then come up here when you're ready, alright?"
"Yeah, okay." I agreed. "Thank you."
She nodded and patted my shoulder before going back upstairs.
I sighed and rub my eyes.
Why is it so hard for me to walk my ass up them damn stairs and interact with my daughter?
I need to man the fuck up!
This scary shit gotta go!
After a few more minutes of my mental pep talk, I slowly stood and made my way to the stairs.
Just as I got to the first stair, the front door opened again.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
"August?" A look of surprise came on his face when he saw me, causing me to smirk.
"Wassap Nathan." I replied.
This should be fun.
