Alli's POV:

I was super nervous about how people would react when I walked in with Nathan. I mean, it was the nerd of the grade being the date for the most popular guy in school. I knew that the other students would stare at us, mostly me.

"It'll be fine. I promise." Nathan whispered in my ear right before we walked in.

"I can hope." I whispered back.

Just as I had predicted, everyone stared at us. I looked down from embarrassment, still holding onto Nathan's arm. Nathan tilted my chin so that my eyes met his. When our eyes met, I could tell that the night would be perfect.

Nathan led me towad a table and I sat down, putting my head in my hands.

"Alli. It's going to be fine." Nathan moved my hands.

"I don't know. Everyone is staring at me and it feels weird to me. Maybe I shouldn't have come." I slouched.

"Don't say that. All these people are probably slightly jealous." he reassured me.

"Thanks. I'll try to ignore them." I smiled.

"Good. Now may I have this dance?" Nathan held out his hand as a slow song played.

"It would be my pleasure." I took his hand and walked onto the dance floor.

Nathan put one hand on my waist and held my hand with the other. I rested my free hand on his shoulder. We danced with each other and I ended up laying my head on his shoulder. I couldn't have imagined anything that could have ruined the dance for me and Nathan. I was apparently wrong. After the song ended and we sat down, Hana came to our table.

Hana was dressed like she was going to a club rather than a high school homecoming dance. She was wearing a fairly tight red dress that only went down to her knees and had a really low neckline. Hana had her hair in a tight bun and had a thick layer of makeup on.

"Hi, Nathan." she sat next to him, totally ignoring me.

"Hana. Get out of here. I have a date." Nathan moved so that I was in front of him.

"You can't make me leave." Hana crossed her arms.

"No. But we can ignore you. P.S. you look like you could work at a bar." I said and walked away.

Nathan followed me until I walked into the bathroom. I was ready to snap. Hana wouldn't leave Nathan alone, people wouldn't stop staring at me, and everything felt like it was falling apart.

"Alli, are you ok? Nathan's going out of his mind outside the girls bathroom." Kaylyn came in and stood next to me.

"I don't know, Kaylyn. Everything seems to be going wrong for me tonight." I took off my heels.

"It's going to be fine. Hana left and they're about to announce the homecoming court." she turned me so that I could easily walk out.

"Thanks, Kaylyn." I smiled and left the bathroom, after I put my heels back on.

"ALLI!!!!" Nathan nearly smothered me in a hug as I walked out.

"Can't.... Breathe...." I gasped.

"Sorry. Sorry. I was worried." he finally let go.

"I can tell. Let's go. I think they're announcing homecoming court." I headed back to where the dance was being held.

Nathan willingly followed me and we made it back just in time for the last couple of the homecoming court to be announced to the student body. 4 other couples stood on stage, waiting to see if they would be homecoming king and queen.

"And the last couple in the homecoming court is... Nathan and Alli." the student body president called our names.

"What? I didn't know that we were in the court." I whispered as Nathan and I walked toward the rest of the court, a spotlight directly on us.

"I entered us once you told me that you would be my date." Nathan whispered back.

As we stood with our fellow students, I hoped that no one could tell how surprised and nervous I was. The student body president left us in suspense for a minute or two before announcing the king and queen.

"This year's homecoming royal couple is..... Nathan and Alli." she announced and everyone applauded.

"I never thought that we would win." I smiled as they placed the tiara on my head and the crown on Nathan's.

"I had a small feeling that we would." Nathan replied.

Nathan and I walked to the center of the dance floor for our first dance as homecoming king and queen. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he put his hands on my waist.

"Alli, can I ask you something?" Nathan asked me, as other couples joined us on the dance floor.

"Of course." I answered.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" he looked deep into my eyes.

"Yes. It would be my honor." I didn't hesitate to answer his question.

Nathan then pulled me closer and softly pressed his lips against mine. Unlike the first time we kissed, I kissed him back, not noticing everyone's stares. We only stopped when the song changed and we went back to our seats.

The night went perfectly. I wasn't humiliated and I got a new boyfriend. Nathan and I danced a couple more times, tried to sneak off for some private time together, and then the dance was over. Chris drove me and Kaylyn to Kaylyn's house, where Rachel was already waiting. I gave Nathan one last kiss and went inside. The night of the homecoming dance was a night that I would never forget.

Maybe "Happily Ever After" could exist for a girl like me.

Nathan's POV:

I could tell how nervous Alli was when we got to the dance. Honestly, I couldn't blame her. I was a bit nervous myself. I led her toward the entrance to the dance.

"It'll be fine. I promise." I whispered in Alli's ear before we went inside.

"I can hope." she mumbled.

As we walked in, everyone stared at us. I didn't get why they looked so surprised. I looked over at Alli and she was staring at the ground. I tilted her chin to look me in the eye. When I did, I could see her relax and calm down.

I led Alli toward a table and she immediately sat down and put her head in her hands.

"Alli. It's going to be fine." I told her as I moved her hands.

"I don't know. Everyone is staring at me and it feels weird to me. Maybe I shouldn't have come." Alli sank into her chair.

"Don't say that. All these people are probably slightly jealous." I reassured her.

"Thanks. I'll try to ignore them." she smiled at me.

"Good. Now may I have this dance?" I held out my hand for her when I heard a slow song play.

"It would be my pleasure." she replied and took my hand.

We walked out onto the dance floor. I took one of Alli's hands in mine and rested the other on her waist, while Alli put her free hand on my shoulder. We danced like that for the whole song and somewhere in the middle, Alli rested her head on my shoulder. Nothing could have ruined this moment for me. Once the song had ended, Alli and I went back to our table. I was about to get up to get Alli something to drink when Hana approached our table.

She looked like she was going to work at a bar. The dress she chose was too short and too tight. Hana's hair looked nice in a bun, but she had more makeup on than a clown.

"Hi, Nathan." Hana sat next to me, ignoring that fact that I was at the dance with someone.

"Hana. Get out of here. I have a date." I got up and moved so that Alli was between us.

"You can't make me leave." she pouted.

"No. But we can ignore you. P.S. you look like you could work at a bar." Alli got up and walked away.

"Thanks a lot, Hana." I ran after Alli.

"UGH!!!!" Hana stood up and walked out.

I followed Alli until she entered the bathroom. I saw Kaylyn coming so I pulled her aside before she went inside the girls' bathroom.

"Kaylyn, please go in there and get Alli to come out." I pleaded.

"Nathan. Calm down. I'll talk to her." Kaylyn replied.

Kaylyn went in and I heard muffled talking. I got a little worried that Alli didn't come out for a while, so I started pacing back and forth. Finally, Alli came out, looking a lot more relaxed.

"Alli!!!!" I hugged her tight, determined not to let her out of my sight.

"Can't... Breathe..." I guess I hugged her too tight.

"Sorry. Sorry. I was worried." I let go, embarrassed.

"I can tell. Let's go. I think they're announcing the homecoming court." Alli headed back to the dance.

I followed her and we got back in time to hear the last couple's names be announced. I saw 4 of my friends and their dates on the stage waiting for the student body president to say who the winner was.

"And the last couple in the homecoming court is... Nathan and Alli." she called our names and a spotlight was directly on us.

"What? I didn't know we were in the court." she whispered in my ear as I led her up to the stage.

"I entered us once you told me that you would be my date." I whispered back. I really wanted to surprise her.

We stood with everyone else in the homecoming court and I could tell that Alli was nervous. She tried not to show it but she had a super tight grip on my arm. The student body president waited for a couple minutes before telling everyone who the homecoming king and queen would be. I hated the suspense.

"Your homecoming king and queen are... Nathan and Alli!" the student body exploded with applause.

"I never thought that we would win." Alli smiled, with a slight look of shock on her face, as they set the tiara in her dark brown hair and the crown on my head.

"I had a feeling that we would." I told her.

I led Alli down to the center of the dance floor as a slow song played for our first dance as the royal couple of the homecoming dance. I put my hands on her waist and she wrapped her arms around my neck.

"Alli, can I ask you something?" I was a little nervous about asking her.

"Of course." she said.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" I looked into her beautiful eyes.

"Yes. It would be my honor." Alli answered me immediately. I guessed that her feelings changed a bit.

I pulled Alli closer to me and softly kissed her lips. She must have enjoyed the kiss because I could feel her kiss me back. Neither one of us bothered to acknowledge everyone else staring at us. We stayed like that for the rest of the song. Then we headed back to our table.

The rest of the night was perfect. I get the girl of my dreams and I was elected homecoming king. Alli and I danced a couple more songs, we got caught trying to sneak off for some alone time together, and then the dance ended. Chris and I drove the girls home and I wouldn't let go of Alli's hand. We walked Alli and Kaylyn up to the door and Alli gave me one last kiss. Then both girls went inside. The homecoming dance was one thing I wouldn't forget.

Maybe "Happily Ever After" could exist for a guy like me.
