Edd's POV:
I slowly open my eyes and squint at the bright lights around me. I try to sit up only to have my head start pounding vigorously. I hold my head as I lay back down.
"You're awake! Shit, I thought you'd never wake up Edd." I recognize Kevin's voice and turn to see him walking towards me with a relived yet worried look.
"W-where am I?" I ask but it comes out squeaky.
"The hospital. You scared me Edd, I thought you weren't going to wake up." He says gripping onto the bed handle.
Bed?
I look around to see I'm laying in one of the nurse's bed. My nose instantly crinkles. The nurse has a tendency to not wash the bed sheets. Judging from the stain next to my leg, I'm laying on a dirty bed spread.
"Double D?"
My eyes flicker to the red head standing next to me.
"What happened to you?" I ask now noticing the swollen black eye and bruises covering him.
"You don't remember? There was a fight between me and Frank...and Eddy. And like 3 other dudes."
"Frank and I." I say chuckling to myself that I had forgotten such an event.
A look of confusion covered Kevin's face and then a frown as he caught on to what I said. "This isn't really the time for you to be smart,Edd."
Now it's my turn to frown as I glare at him. "What happened to Ed and Eddy?" I ask knowing they must've gotten in trouble.
"After you passed out, the teachers finally came to try and break up the fight and everyone involved got sent to the office. They're okay, just... everyone got suspended for 2 days. Everyone as in...Me,Frank,Eddy,Ed,those three guys,...and y-you."
As he said the last word I felt my world break apart. I shot up from the bed and held my head as the pain came back.
"Edd you shouldn't be stan-"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M SUSPENDED?" I shout ignoring the pain. That's it my life is ruined.
"Edd,le-"
"This is going on my record! Colleges won't accept me with this kind of record Kevin! What do I tell my parents?" I yell at him.
"Edd it's not like a bad suspension. I mean I explained to them that you didn't do anything and they said they knew you never would. But Mr.Henry said you can't come to school because of your head injury." He explains, talking really fast.
"...Kevin." I say in a calm voice.
"Y-yea?"
"That's not a suspension you neanderthal!" I burst out holding onto my head once again.
"A what? A nederthan?? " Kevin asks his eyebrows raised in confusion. Confusion written all over his face.
{A/N the misspelled version neanderthal was to show Kevin didn't know how to pronounce it.}
Guilt washed through me as I realized what I said. Kevin isn't a neanderthal.
"My apologies Kevin. I didn't mean to insult you. Just you scared me. And I'm angry with you for starting a fight."
"You're angry? I didn't start the fight on purpose I was doing it for, Edd." He says reaching out and holding my hand. "For what he did to you. He hurt you and he had to pay for it."
"That's sweet and I appreciate your help. Kevin, I don't need you to fight my battles. I know I may not have your muscles,but I can be strong in the real way. So I can fight by myself ok?" I say holding onto his hand.
"I know that, Edd. I can't help but want to protect you. You're so precious to me and I get really mad when someone hurts or touches you. " He says smiling at me.
I feel my cheeks burn as I listen to him."Just promise you'll let me protect myself too. And I can protect you, Kevin." I say smiling.
"My Knight in Dorky armor." He chuckles as he leans in and lightly kisses my lips.
I laugh as we break apart. I grab his hand and lightly place a kiss on the back of his hand, "I vow to protect you, my princess."
We both crack up in laughter at how silly we sound. We stop laughing only to look at each other and begin laughing again. After about 5 minutes we finally stop.
"Oh I almost forgot. Before I went to the office I saw this on the floor. It's yours isn't it, I recognize the label tag." He says smiling placing it on my hand.
"My key." I say holding it. It must've fell out of my pocket.
"Thank you Kevin. I thought I'd never find it." I say smiling.
"That bitch must've dropped it when we were fighting." He says.
"Language Kevin." He chuckles in response.
"What time is it? Shouldn't you be in class?" I ask. Shouldn't I be in class?
"It's already 5:46, and I was technically suspended an hour ago. Plus school's over you dork." He says laughing.
My cheeks turn red as I realized how much of an imbecile I sound right now. "T-that's right."
"The nurse said I should leave you to sleep until you woke up. It's not anything serious, but she said you would have alot of headaches and will feel dizzy alot. So that's why you have two days off." He explains to me.
I nod my head in understanding and sigh. "I don't know if I can survive two days without school." I say.
"You're such a dork." Kevin snickers holding in laughter.
I glare at him and start to stand up. "Wait, let me help you. You shouldn't stand on your own. The nurse says you should stay in bed until Thursday." He says worriedly.
"Thank you, Kevin."
"No problem my princess."
"I thought you were the princess?"
"Nope you're more fitting to be a princess. Plus if you're the Princess I get to carry you like this." He grins picking me up like one would do a princess. I feel my cheeks burn bright as he carries me away.
I sigh again as Kevin leads me out the door. We leave the school and he helps me into the car and we drive home."Wait A minute! Did you quote Pearl from Steven Universe earlier?" He shouts unexpectedly.
"Yes. I've had some time to watch it. It's a very pleasant show.Pearl's my favorite." My cheeks burning.
"Of course Pearl would be your favorite." He laughs. "I presume your's is Amethyst?" "Nope. Peridot" He says laughing, "She's so adorable." Now it's my turn to laugh.
As we were driving we drove past three young boys playing together at the park. I smiled as I remembered fondly of all the times Ed, Eddy, and I played there.
"Why did Eddy help you fight?" I ask. I couldn't think of any reason why Eddy would ever help Kevin.
"He...he fought because he wanted to get back at the people who hurt you."
He says glancing at me.
"Oh. Did he get hurt badly? Ed didn't get out of hand did he?" I ask growing worried of their injuries.
"No, Ed caused most of the injuries on the other guys. Eddy didn't get hurt that bad, surprisingly. He only had some small cuts and the black eye from....earlier today." He says pulling into the his driveway.
I never got to talk to him after that. I never got to explain things. HE never got to explain what caused him to do that. "I-I should go see him. We have alot we need to talk about. We need to explain things to him so you two can get along. I don't want my best friend to be angry at me." I say clenching onto my sweater. I wince as I feel my head start to pound again.
"We will. Just, you need to eat and get some sleep Edd. I need to give you pain meds to take for your head. You'll talk to him soon Double D ok?"
I nod as he turns off the car.

Guys..Can we please just celebrate and praise that I wrote a sorta long chapter? I mean this is 1269 words! I think it's the longest chapter on this fic!
