Chapter 42
Jacob stopped dead in his tracks. He looked at me like I was crazy. “What did you just say, Bella?” He gasped.
I paused, wondering if I should change my mind. No, I need to make sure Jacob doesn’t do anything he’ll regret. Or something he won’t be able to forget.
“Kiss me.” I repeated.
Jacob quickly closed the distance between us and leaned down, pressing his warm lips against my colder ones. He froze, when our lips touched.
I had no clue what to do.
He stopped responding for a very long five seconds. I needed to make him kiss me back, I needed to distract him from his pain… from my pain…
I reached up, and wrapped my arms around his neck, tangling a hand in his short dark hair. Memories of kissing him before, in the snow, flooded into my head. I was pretty sure those were his thoughts too. His lips parted slowly, and I smiled against them, knowing I was helping. His hands were burning hot when he touched my icy waist, pulling me against him.
But he was holding back. I wasn’t Nessie, and I would never make him fully forget, or move on.
Our tongues tangled against each other, and I found myself slowly drifting off into pure bliss. Bliss I never felt when kissing Edward. A new feeling; a feeling of danger. I knew this was bad. This was wrong.
But I loved it.
After a few minutes, Jacob pulled away, but keeping his hands on my waist. “Bella…” He whispered, shaking his head slightly. “I shouldn’t have…”

Laying in bed next to my husband that night, I realized Jacob takes the pain of losing Nessie away. Just like he took the pain of losing Edward away. I know he doesn’t try to, it’s just our slight connection to each other that seems to fix our problems. We distract each other.
“Bella, I know what happened.”
I turned my head and looked at Edward, guilty. “It was only becau--”
“I know why you did it.” He said softly, interrupting me. “You wanted him to stay. Just like last time.”
I felt horrible, realizing what I did to it’s full extent.
I kissed Jacob Black.
