(A/N: For the future events, and the one in this chapter, Adam is going to still be with RCA records. I know we hate them cause they suck, and all that, but I needed him to answer to management for the purpose of this story. If you are a directioner or have read a 1D book, you might have seen them go to Simon and management, and it is going to be like that.)
Chapter 5:
It's my second day at the house, at my new home, though I still struggle to call it that. I'm more trustworthy of Adam, but still flinch whenever we touch. He tries to comfort me, and be loving like any parent would. I know he wants me to see him like that, to see him as someone I could call a parent. And one day I want to, but I don't think I'm ready yet, I don't think I will be for a while.
"Yeah okay, I'll be there soon." Adam says as he walks into the lounge room, his phone to his ear. He sounds annoyed and quite frankly, pissed off, with whoever is on the other line.
He pulls the phone away and ends the call, running his hands over his face in annoyance.
"That was management, they want me to go in and have a meeting. I guess they want to talk about the new change in plans." He says with a laugh and a small smile.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the 'new change in plans' is me. I don't mind though.
I am kind of worried. What if they say that he can't keep me around? I don't care what they think, but I care about what Adam thinks. What if he agrees with them, or has no choice? I just got over the main part of my fear of him, I don't want to go back to faze one.
"Are you going to be okay for an hour or two?" he says, sounding a little guilty.
"I'll be fine." I say with a small reassuring smile.
He nods his head and looks more relieved than before. He grabs his keys and puts his phone in his pocket.
"I'll be back soon." Adam says, opening the front door. I wave a little and he closes the door behind him. After a minute or two, I hear him pull out of the driveway.
Adam's POV:
I pull up to the big office looking building, and park my car close to the entrance. Management can be such a pain in the ass sometimes. I don't care what they think of me taking on Darcy, because nothing is ever going to change my mind.
I run my hands through my black hair, and open my car door, shutting it behind me and pressing the auto lock on my keys.
I walk towards the entrance and push the doors open as I stuff my keys in my pocket.
"Hey Jay." I say to the guy behind the reception desk. He looks up from his book and smiles at me.
"Hey Adam." He says happily.
I press the top arrow button on the elevator wall, and wait for the doors to open. After a minute or two, I walk into the elevator and press the 14th floor button. I watch the numbers on the small screen as they go up and up.
The elevator dings, and the doors open. I walk out and down the hall, towards the room I know all too well. I turn the handle and walk in.
"Ah, Mr Lambert, have a seat." Ryan, the head guy at RCA records, points to a chair at the end of the table, opposite him.
"So, what did you need me for?" I ask, trying not to sound rude. To be honest, Ryan is a jerk.
I'm completely grateful that I have a record label who believes in me and has helped me bring 2 albums to life, but they try to make me into someone I'm not.
"Well, we heard about your... new addition... and we are a little concerned." Ryan says and all the others at the table nod in agreement.
"Not to sound rude or anything, but how does that concern you?" I ask genuinely curious.
"As you know, your career is getting bigger and better. You acted in, and performed, on Pretty Little Liars, a very popular show. Soon you are also going to act and perform on an even bigger and more loved show, Glee. Your career is only going to get bigger and bigger, and having this new addition is only going to make that all disappear." I knew he was going to say that.
"So the media is going to see my act of kindness, and my loving nature, by fostering and one day adopting a girl who lost her only family, as bad?" I ask with a scoff and a roll of my eyes.
"You know what they are like. They can twist an amazing moment into something that sounds terrible. I don't think having a teenager is going to boost your career. She is only going to slow you down, and distract you from your dreams, Adam." Now I'm pissed. He has no right to say that. I know what will boost my career, and what will tear it down, and she is not the latter result.
"How dare you?! You know what, I couldn't care less. She's not going anywhere, not when there is a good home and a loving person to look after her. She's family now, and yeah it is going to be hard, especially with everything she has been through, but that's what makes her that much more special. I'd never let her go, no matter what you all think." I say with every ounce of confidence I possess.
"We are only trying to look out for what is best for you Adam. I know I can't change your mind right now, but just realise that she will impact on your life and career. And are you really ready for that?" Ryan asks, placing his interlocked hands on the long wooden table.
"Can I go now?" there is no point in trying to convince him.
I know in my heart and soul that she belongs with me. That it's some sort of destiny that our paths crossed. I will never let anyone hurt her, or bad mouth her in any way. There is something about that blue eyed girl. She seems to have changed me in a way. In the best way of course.
"Uh, yeah. Good bye Mr Lambert." Ryan says as I walk out of the meeting room.
***
I pull up to the house and park the car, getting out and locking it. I walk up the driveway and to the front door. I knock lightly and wait for it to open. I didn't bother taking my keys since Darcy was here anyway.
"Hey." She says with a small smile as she opens the door, holding it open as I walk in. I kiss her forehead as I walk inside, and she actually smiles a little more instead of completely flinching away. She still jumped a little, but not as bad as yesterday or the 2 weeks in Australia.
Slowly but surely she will come to trust me, and be fully comfortable calling this place her home. I can't wait until the day I can introduce my family to her. My mum really wants to meet her, and supported my decision completely.
"So how did it go?" Darcy asks as she sits down next to me on the couch. I frown a little at how far away she is, but I drop the subject, not wanting to make it worse by bringing it up.
"Not so good. Ryan, the head of RCA, is an absolute ass!" I say, sounding annoyed. I lean my head against the back of the couch and run my fingers through my hair once.
"How come?" she asks quietly. She still doesn't speak very loud, or at least the normal volume, but I've basically gotten used to it.
"He just... he thinks it wasn't a good idea to foster, and hopefully, one day adopt you." I hesitate. Maybe I shouldn't have said that, but I don't want there to be any secrets between us.
"Oh... maybe he's right. I mean, I don't want to hold you back from the amazing things you can accomplish one day." She says, playing with her fingers. She looks down at her lap and I can see she is a little upset.
"He's not right. In fact, I told him to shove it." I chuckle. She nods a little but continues to look down at her lap.
"Nothing anyone says or does can make me regret my decision. The only time I would ever let them take you away, is if that's what you truly want. And honestly, I hope you don't want that." I say honestly.
She looks up at me and smiles a little. That's what I like to see.
"How about I take you on a tour of L.A? It's only 11 so we basically have the whole day to do whatever you want." I say excitedly.
"Yeah that sounds good. I've always wanted to see L.A." she smiles a little wider, biting her lip a little.
"Okay, we'll get ready and I'll meet you down here in about 10?" she nods and we both walk up stairs into our rooms.
I grab a jacket and quickly brush my teeth, before going downstairs and waiting for Darcy.
After about 10 minutes she walks down the stairs, showered and dressed. She's wearing dark purple skinny jeans and a black top with a white skull on the front. Her hair is naturally straight and she has black gladiator sandals on. She looks beautiful, especially with her gorgeous light blue eyes, outlined with a thin layer of black eyeliner.
"Ready." She says with a small smile gracing her lips.
We walk out of the house, and I lock the front door before shoving my keys in my pocket. We walk to the car and get in.
