Episode 1: Pilot- Jessica "Jess" Day moves into an apartment that is already inhabited by Nick Miller, Schmidt and Coach. They soon find out living with Jess was not what they hoped for and Jess is not your normal girl. Although after some unfortunate events the guys come to love the weird-but-wonderful Jess.
Episode 2: Kryptonite- The character Winston is introduced, he comes back from playing pro-ball in Latvia. He moves into the loft as Coach has left. Jess breaks the TV. Which results in a battle with both herself and her ex Spencer as she attempts to get her TV and things back.
Episode 3: Wedding- Nick asks Jess to be his pretend girlfriend at a wedding that he's scared he will run into his ex (Caroline) at a wedding they go to. Schmidt pursues Brooke his college crush, but his usual wedding-hook-up Gretchen knows he'll be going home with her as usual. Winston is an usher a the wedding, a battle begins with "the alternate usher" a child.
Episode 4: Naked- Nick walks in on a dancing and naked Nick, she laughs which damages his self-confidence and his dates with Amanda his co-worker. Cece gives Jess advice on how to solve the awkwardness there now is between her and Nick. When Winston fails at a job interview, he goes overboard on filling his mind with the latest pop-culture. Schmidt makes it his mission to see Nick's penis since he's the only one in the loft who hasn't.
Episode 5: Cece Crashes- Jess has to collect and drunk and broken-hearted (kinda) Cece from a club, resulting in the model sleeping at the loft. During Cece's stay she manages to convince Jess Nick likes her to the point so turns slightly insane (but what's new there) and she has Winston and Schmidt hanging on her every word. Schmidt finally tries to get together with Cece.
Episode 6: Thanksgiving- Jess invites her fellow teacher (who she has a crush on) Paul to Thanksgiving at the loft. Cece becomes attracted to Schmidt- mostly because of how he acts whilst cooking the dinner. Everyone but Nick comes to like Paul. A series of embarrassing events occur including the burning of the oversized turkey, causing the gang to make an unfortunate discovery.
Episode 7: Bells- Jess forms a handbell team for delinquents. When she discovers Winston is skilled at it she insists he joins which results in him being obsessed with being the best. Fortunately Winston learns his lesson in the end. Nick and Schmidt start a war over money, which goes much too far.
Episode 8: Bad In Bed- Jess is scared about sleeping with Paul, so she asks the guys for sex advice. Schmidt competes with a co-worker and goes to his boss's baby shower.
Episode 9: The 23rd- It's Schmidt's office Christmas party and all the gang are going! Winston makes friends with Schmidt's boss' son. Schmidt gives Cece a handmade-by-him perfume (Cecilia No.5). Paul tells Jess he loves her- she does not feel the same and tells Nick so, only to have him drop her in it.
Episode 10: The Story of the 50- Jess throws Schmidt a surprise 29th birthday party when his party bus cancels on him. She gets him school bus for him by inviting her crazy boss Tanya. A lot of things go wrong but Schmidt loves the party all the same. Schmidt's douche friend Benjamin makes plans to hit on Jess which Schmidt puts and end to. Nick introduces his girlfriend Julia to the gang as he tries his best to impress her. Schmidt makes a pass at Jess at the end of the night resulting in him putting $50 dollars in the jar.
Episode 11: Jess and Julia- When Jess gets a traffic ticket she turns to Nick's lawyer girlfriend Julia to help her fight it. The whole thing results in a fight between the girls. Winston and Shelby re-unite. Cece gets riled over Julia who eventually gets used to Jess and we meet Sadie for the first time.
Episode 12: The Landlord- When some serious repairs are needed in the apartment and Nick's quick fixes are no longer good enough Jess goes to see the building's landlord Remy even though Nick begs her not to. Jess soon has Remy on her side and doing every little thing she asks, only what she asks. Nick notices Remy's crush on Jess and insists he goes to the dinner Remy invites Jess- to giving Remy the wrong idea about what's going on. Schmidt's boss puts the moves on him and responding to them means a lot of trouble.
Episode 13: Valentines Day- Jess wants a one night stand and enlists Schmidt's help to find her a guy. Julia and Nick arrange to have a date, but her work quickly gets in the way leaving Nick sat in her office with only her intern Cliff for company as she works away. Jess' one night stand ends in disaster and most definitely no sex, which makes her consider sleeping with Schmidt but is stopped on her way to his room when Nick spots her. Good job because Schmidt was hooking up with Cece anyway. Winston joins Shelby's girls night.
Episode 14: Bully- When Jess noticed a student in her class is being bullied she intervenes which results in her being the bully's (Brianna's) next target. When Julia sends Nick a cactus from her business trip he goes crazy by reading-into what the cactus could mean- eventually she returns after one too many voicemails from Nick and they breakup. Cece and Schmidt continue to sleep together, though Cece is adamant that they keep it all a secret.
Episode 15: Injured- Nick gets injured playing football in the park but he refuses to go to a doctor because he has no insurance. Jess takes him to see Sadie (her friend and a OB/GYN). When Nick is taking the pills for the pain Sadie notices a lump on Nick's throat and it turns the gang's world upside-down. Fearing his life may soon be over Nick does some random things and everyone else is a little depressed. Winston's car sucks and when it finally breaks beyond repair he as to come to a tough decision. Cece and Schmidt get emotional.
Episode 16: Control- Jess tries to change Schmidt's clean freak ways and pushes him too far. The apartment is a mess and it takes a lot of bargaining to get the old Schmidt back. Nick and Winston get into a fight over money owed from a poker game. Cece and Schmidt are still sleeping together and Cece proves to be the dominant one of the pair.
Episode 17: Fancyman (Part 1)- Sarah's- one of Jess' student's- father Russell has a disagreement with Jess, he doesn't want his daughter to have creative time. Though Jess ends up falling for him when she confronts him. Winston attempts to impress Shelby by attempting (and failing) to prove he's more knowledgable than Schmidt. Nick decides he doesn't need a mobile/cell phone and goes "off the grid".
Episode 18: Fancyman (Part 2)- Jess is very uncomfortable on her first date with Russell when he sends her mixed signals. Nick is encouraged to date younger girls AKA college students by his ex college roommate Dirk when he comes to visit. When Winston drives to Mexico to tell Shelby how he feels about her in Schmidt's car he is shocked to be stopped at the borderline and find a very naked Schmidt and Cece in the boot.
Episode 19: Secrets- Winston tells Nick about Cece and Schmidt and seeing as Nick cannot keep a secret to save his life it's not long before Jess knows too. She is not happy about it and decides all the roommates have to be completely honest with each other and hears some things she wishes she hadn't. Nick turns to Schmidt for advice on dating.
Episode 20: Normal- Jess gets Russell to spend sometime at the loft after she'd been at his for the whole week. Winston gets a job that is perfect for him- working for his favourite sports radio host!
Episode 21: Kids- Jess meets Ouli, Russell's ex-wife. She agrees to watch Sarah for her, Sarah develops a crush on Nick. Winston tries to get his boss to the talk show he refuses to go to. Nick dates Chloe, a girl who is artistic and a lot younger than he thinks she is. Cece has a pregnancy scare.
Episode 22: Tomatoes- Jess think there's still sexual tension between Ouli and Russell and when she tries to get the same reaction from him that Ouli gets from him it backfires miserably and they breakup. When Nick gives up on dating he decides to grow some tomatoes- he fails at both. In an attempt to prove to everyone else but mostly herself Cece tells Schmidt to go on a date with Nadia. It does not end well, resulting in Schmidt in the hospital with a broken penis. When Cece visits him she admits she has feelings for him.
Episode 23: Backslide- With her heart still in tatters Jess sleeps with Paul who she later finds out has a girlfriend (Jenn). When Jenn finds out Jess works hard to get the pair back together. Nick gets back together with Caroline and makes the decision to move in with her. Winston gets his ear pierced. Schmidt meets Cece's grandmother.
Episode 24: See Ya- Nick has a total freak-out about moving in with Caroline which leaves him and the others stranded after he throws the car keys away. Schmidt and Cece have an argument and eventually break up. Nick and Jess have a run-in with a coyote which Jess manages to scare off. Nick doesn't move in with Caroline and is back at the loft in no time.
