Chapter 44 – The Queen and Other Royal Arrangements

Giselle groaned obviously not wanting to enter the castle before her. However, she didn’t have much of a choice. She followed behind Isaac, her nerves rising and butterflies entering her stomach.

On the upside, the entire view meeting her gaze was breath taking. There was no way anyone could be unsatisfied with the view of the castle. It was far too beautiful and eye grabbing. Giselle found herself being overwhelmed by its beauty.

She glanced at the unicorns, which seemed to be chewing on the rose bushes near them. It made her laugh a little. She didn’t even know Unicorns existed. It now came to her attention that when it came down to the gifted world everything in your wildest dreams existed. Every myth, childhood book, and movie came to life. Zeptoria was the realest unreal thing she had ever been able to witness.

The guards nodded towards Isaac as if they were saying hello and gave Giselle small smiles. It was so odd to her how they seemed so intimidating yet so warm and friendly. She shrugged it off before following Isaac into the castle’s large cherry wooden door.

Once inside Giselle gaped. In front of her was a large room that resembled a living room, except the fanciest one you could think of. Its sofas were a dark red and the walls were a rich golden color. At the ceiling was a large diamond chandelier. On the floor was a rug with a tigers head. Giselle quickly looked away taking in the large wooden book shelves and modern day flat screen taking half the wall.

A clearing of a throat caused Giselle to avert her gaze. A man stood before her, looking oddly like James with a long beard and a butlers outfit. “How may I be of assistance?”

“We are here to see Queen Isadora.” Isaac spoke. “We’re from Gifted Academy.”

“Very well.”

Giselle glanced at his name tag that read Bill taking in his appearance. He looked so much like James that it freaked her out. They could be related right? Who knew? Because she sure didn’t.

“The queen shall be in your presence momentarily.” Bill said. “She is currently in a very important meeting at the other end of the castle.”

“That is fine.” Isaac replied.

“Can I get you anything?” Bill asked.

“No.” Isaac said flatly.

Bill turned to Giselle. She shook her head no.

“Very well, you may have a seat until she arrives.” Bill added. “I’ll be in the kitchen.” It was then that he disappeared through a door nearby.

Giselle didn’t wait to flop down on the sofa and grin to herself before Isaac sat on the opposite couch. “This truly is like a dream.”

Isaac shrugged. “You will soon get used to it.”

“I don’t think I can.” Giselle muttered. “I’ve never seen anything like this, well, except for in the movies.”

Isaac chuckled. “This is far from a movie, this is entirely real. Every ounce of it.”

“I know.” Giselle flushed. “I just…I don’t know, I never expected all of this.”

Isaac stared at her. “Well you have a whole life of Zeptoria ahead of you, might as well get accustom to it.”

Giselle sighed ready to give him a quick sarcastic retort when a blonde young man walked into the room, interrupting their conversation. She bit back her remark before staring up at the tall, handsome young man. His hair was the lightest of all blondes with light streaks of honey. His eyes were the color of emeralds and his skin was fair yet completely glowing. He wore a beige button up with a tie and dark jeans. Giselle felt like all the air had been punched out of her, he was gorgeous.

“Adonis,” Isaac started before rising and giving him a small bow. “It’s been a rather long time.”

Giselle got up quickly, mimicking Isaac. It was then that she realized he was a part of the Royal family. He was the younger brother of Queen Isadora, the very boy that was spoken of in Giselle’s history of the homelands class that made all the girls swoon. She now understood why.

Adonis smiled, revealing his nine watt smile. “That it has, glad you decided to randomly show up, unannounced rather.” He chuckled lightly. “But who is your friend?”

“This is Giselle Riley.”

Adonis’s eyes went wide. “As in, the Giselle Riley.”

Giselle scoffed. “Yeah yeah, I’m Nicolas Riley’s daughter.”

Adonis gave her a long glance before putting his hand out. “Pleased to meet your acquaintance.”

“No, the pleasure is mine.” Giselle smiled.

Isaac glanced from him to her when he realized this was what seemed like a small amount of flirting. He cleared his throat which caused Adonis to let go of Giselle’s hand rapidly after holding onto it for a second too long.

Isaac’s eyes narrowed when he saw Giselle’s cheeks were going slightly red. “Adonis, may I speak with you for a moment, in private.”

Giselle looked confused but nodded and took a step back.

Adonis shrugged. “Sure, we can talk in the hall.”

As soon as they left the living room and were out of hearing range Isaac turned to Adonis with a glare. He ignored the amazingly lit hallway with lanterns and light brown walls. He also didn’t give a second glance to the paintings of the royal family from each generation.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Isaac questioned through gritted teeth.

Adonis smirked. “I beg your pardon?”

“Don’t play dimwitted, Adonis.” Isaac said. “She’s off limits.”

“Oh? By who? You?” Adonis gave him an amused smile. “She’s cute, and plus, she was flirting back.”

Isaac was gathering up a million insults but instead sighed. “I don’t even know why I care.”

“Aw.” Adonis said. “Don’t get all sentimental on me.”

Isaac glanced at him sharply. “She isn’t your type.”

“So whose type is she?” Adonis asked with a shrug. “Yours?”

Isaac remained silent.

“That’s what I thought.” Adonis said before patting him on the shoulder. “If you want we can compete. But I’m sure you’ll lose.”

“There isn’t any competition.” Isaac growled. “And besides, I’m not that immature. If she wants you then so be it. I don’t even care.”

“Good, then you wouldn’t mind if I asked her out on a date for tonight, would you?”

Isaac stared at him. On the inside he could feel his heart aching, the simple thought of Giselle with someone else caused him a slight amount of pain. But if that’s what she wanted then there wasn’t much he could do. His face remained composed but deep down he was fuming with anger. He gave Adonis a small shrug. “Whatever tickles your fancy, Adonis. No I wouldn’t mind.”

Adonis smiled. “Great.”

They walked back into the living room to find a bored looking Giselle. Isaac leaned against the wall, composing all the emotion stirring in him and covering it with an expressionless mask.

“Giselle, is this your first time in Zeptoria?” Adonis asked curiously.

“Yes, it actually is.”

“It must amaze you then.”

“You have no idea.” She smiled.

Isaac watched not at all amused.

“There are a couple great sites here.” Adonis said casually. “One of them being a favorite restaurant of mine, would you care to join me?”

Giselle glanced at Isaac who was staring at the wall as if he didn’t care and wasn’t even paying attention to what was going on. It made her angry. How could he just stand there when another guy was asking her out? It was then that it clicked in her mind. Not too long ago she found out that he was a liar, only spending time with her because the Professor ordered him to protect her. That could also mean everything they had was a lie too.

Giselle didn’t give it a second thought. “Sure, when?”

Isaac glanced at her abruptly. He wanted to step in, tell her this was wrong and he wouldn’t stand for it. But he didn’t. Their eyes met for a moment, until he let his gaze fall.

“Tonight.” Adonis replied. “If that’s fine with you.”

“Sounds great.”

Adonis nodded before grabbing her hand and kissing it. “I must go, I have duties to attend.”

Giselle gave him a slight smile. “Alright.”

“Meet me here at seven.” He said before heading out.

“I will.” She replied.

Adonis paused at the door and winked at Isaac before walking out and heading to wherever he was headed to. Isaac felt his stomach turn in annoyance. He glanced at Giselle who was staring at him, a twinge of guilt was in her eyes. But he chose not to care. He’d ignore it.

Bill, the butler, interrupted the thick tension in the air. He gave both of them smiles. “The queen is ready to see you.”

“Perfect.” Isaac replied. He walked passed Giselle, ignoring her presence completely and following Bill into the hall. Giselle followed close behind not sure what to make of the situation at hand. She decided to put it at the back of her mind. What’s done was done.

Bill stepped into a large room down the hall. The room was grand and had golden tiles. Its walls were a bright white and at the end of the room was a large chair with a red cushion.  Behold, it was the Queens thrown and sitting on the large comforter was Queen Isadora herself.

Giselle’s breathing caught as she took in Queen Isadora’s appearance. She had piercing green eyes with a small touch of hazel and long radiant blonde hair that matched Adonis. She wore a long yellow gown with ruffles at the bottom and a yellow flower in the side of her hair. A large crown framed the top of her head with large crystals and expensive looking diamonds.

Her smile was beaming as was her beauty yet her entire persona was intimidating to Giselle. She had this odd thing about her that made you not want to ever look away, it could have been her beauty but it had to be something more. The way she sat there was like she was made for Zeptoria. Her charisma and glowing grin made you want to stare in awe, as if she put some type of spell on you.

Queen Isadora’s appearance was that absorbing.

Giselle bowed mimicking both Isaac and Bill.  When she rose from her bow she noticed the Queen smiling in her direction taking in Giselle’s appearance from head to toe. Giselle didn’t like to be scrutinized but it wasn’t like she could protest against the Queens actions,

“If it isn’t none other than Giselle Riley.” Queen Isadora spoke, her voice echoing through the room sounding like a bird singing. “You look just like your father. It truly is astonishing.”

Giselle shrugged. “Thanks, I-I guess.”

Queen Isadora stared at her for a moment before turning to Isaac. “Isaac, how are you my dear and what brings you to the castle?”

“I’m doing well.” Isaac replied. “The reason we are here is because the campus has come under an attack.”

Queen Isadora glanced at Bill. “Bill, would you please wait outside in the hall. This is a private matter.”

Bill nodded quickly. “Yes your highness.” He was gone in a matter of moments, rushing out of the room so there wouldn’t be any further scolding.

“The professor has contacted me about the vision Dianne has had. I had no idea it would have happened so soon. How is the academy? What’s happened so far?”

“I can’t give you much detail, I was ordered to leave with Giselle when things got hectic at the academy and so I did. I have no idea what’s happening at this very moment.” Isaac responded.

“Very well, I understand. Do you have an understanding of who might be behind this?”

“We do.” Isaac said flatly. “Hopefully the professor agrees with our sources and information.”

“Good, leave that information in his hands then.” Queen Isadora replied. “You may stay here as long as you wish.”

“Thank you, you are far too kind.” Isaac smiled easily.

“But I believe it is Giselle’s first time in the castle, it would be grand if you could show her where everything is located.” Queen Isadora replied. “Or I could tell Bill to be of assistance and show her more or less what consists of the castle.”

“That sounds better.” Isaac responded. Giselle glanced at him. It was obvious he now wanted nothing to do with her. She hid the screams going off in her head. She wanted to just pound on his chest and tell him he was acting like a complete idiot.

“Beside’s I have a phone call to make.” Isaac continued before he glanced at Giselle and looked away slowly. She knew that was an excuse. He could make the phone call to the professor at any time but he chose now, just so he could be away from her. Yes, it was true, he did have to call the Professor and try to warn him about Malcolm Efra but that didn’t mean he also had to avoid Giselle. Still, she couldn’t be so sure. His face read no emotion as if he really did just want to make a phone call. Giselle’s gut still told her otherwise. Though Isaac face remained composed, his actions just didn’t make any sense.

“Splendid.” Queen Isadora grinned. “You may leave Isaac, on your way out please order Bill to come back in; he has a new assignment at hand.”

She turned to Giselle smiling radiantly. Giselle gave her an easy smile wondering if she could mask the conflicting emotions on her face. Probably not. But the Queen didn’t mention it she simply turned her attention back to Isaac who bowed before he was about to exit.

He walked gracefully out of the room, anger fuming in him. Of course his face remained composed. He wouldn’t let it falter. The truth was that he was far too upset to be anywhere near Giselle. She was going out tonight, which might mean he’d forget about her altogether. Did that truly matter to him? Of course it did.

Sighing he pushed the thought out of his mind. He found Bill in the hall and told him to go back inside, entirely the Queens orders. Isaac didn’t know how to react to this situation. The last thing he wanted was to worry about Giselle but it seemed like that was the only thing crossing his mind.

Drama drama drama. Isaac had never been in so much drama just because of one temperamental female.
