KAI's POV
Three days have passed but still I don’t know what to do with her. She’s staring blankly outside the window of this hotel. No matter how I approach her, not even a word escaped her mouth. Nakakapanibago. I’m not used to this personality of hers.
“Why don’t you speak up sissy? It’s just the two of us. You can pour all your emotions to me.” I suggested, breaking the silence. “You can even punch me if you want.” I giggled to lighten up the mood, but to no avail. Her gaze was still fixed on nothing in particular.
“Since you won’t talk, I better take this as an opportunity to scold you… my dear sissy~! I haven’t done it for the last 2 days so I better do it now. Baka magsalita ka na.” I playfully said and sat beside her. Tinitigan ko lang ang side profile nya. She resembled her dad so much… if I am not mistaken.
Magkaiba kami ng Dad but she doesn’t know. I couldn’t tell her either before since I don’t have a proof that my mother had an affair with another guy.
But even if she’s just my half-sister, I have always considered her as my sibling… disregarding the word half.
“Y’know, you shouldn’t have done that. Though I understand your actions… but the others won’t cause they don’t have the slightest idea why you did that to her. And it includes Xavier.”
With just a mention of his name, she moved, gripping on the hem of her school uniform’s skirt.
Alam kong masakit ang pagsigaw ni Xavier sa kanya, but I can’t blame my dear cousin. He doesn’t know how much my mother hurted Mei. He doesn’t even know that they’re related. Akala ko nga nung araw na yun, sasabihin na ni Mei ang totoo… but to my surprise she didn’t at wala akong maisip na dahilan kung bakit.
“I know it’s difficult suppressing that pain that’s been there for years, but a mere slap is not enough to let her feel the pain that you’ve been suffering. Kung gusto mong maghiganti, then show her that you have grown into matured woman without needing her guidance and care.” Hinawi ko ang buhok nya at inipit ito sa likod ng tenga nya. “Sa ginawa mo kasi… nagmukha kang shunga sissy! Ikaw pa napasama sa paningin ng iba kesa sa kanya.” I sighed, thinking what will happen to her after that incident. Ayokong ibully sya ng mga ibang students, o pagchismisan or whatever means para mapagkatuwaan sya.
I always wanted a little sister. Kaya nang malaman kong kapatid ko pala sya, sobrang saya ko and I promised to protect her in any way I can.
That was a dream come true for me cause my parents don’t want to have another child again. And being the only child is like hell! I’m always with my Yayas and I don’t even have a pet to play with. Kahit lumabas nga lang sa bahay bawal. Jeez~!!! They were so over protective na sa kalaunay nasakal na ako.
Naging rebel ako, as what they always told me. But I am not. I’m just actually using my freedom~
“Will he kick me out?” Nabigla ako nang magtanong sya. After three days of staying here, ngayon lang sya nagsalita. Promise, it was kinda creepy pa nga e~ I was like talking to myself.
“Nope. Malakas kaya ako kay Mr. S~!” I jokingly answered her. In all honesty, hindi naman ako ang dahilan kung bakit hindi sya iki-kick out ni Mr. S… kundi si Mei mismo.
I saw her nod with no sign of any emotion nang biglang tumunog ang cellphone ko.
Nagtext si oh so dear cousin~
Kamusta na si Mei?
Napanglingo ako nung una kasi hindi ko expect na alam nyang kasama ko si Mei. But thinking na baka natanong nya si Mr. S, I smiled to myself before replying.
How did you know my dear cousin?
Hindi pa lumilipas ang sampung segundo ay may sagot na agad sya. Oh, not really an answer though.

Napatingin ako kay Mei na nakatulala pa rin. Not to offend but she looked like someone from a mental hospital with her look and the way she acts right now. I don’t want to keep her here, but she requested it. Napagalitan kasi din sya sa kanila that day… and she was supposed to ran away. Jeez, I can’t afford that so I just assured her parents that she’s in good hands kaya pumayag silang isama ko muna sya dito.
Lumabas muna ako saglit ng room to call Xavier. Hindi naman ako manhid para di malamang may namamagitan sa kanila so… I know na nag-aalala na sya kay sissy, as much as I would if I was in his position.
I dialed his number. Nakailang ring pa bago nya pinick up ang phone.
“My dear cousin~ I missed you!” I greeted him. Tatlong araw na rin ako di umuuwi sa bahay nya cause I’m staying here with Mei... kaya na-miss ko din sya SLIGHT. :)
(I missed her more. Is she fine?) See? He cares for her so much, that he doesn't care about me anymore. -_-
“Jeez. You don't have to be so rude. Yes she is, my dear cousin.” I pouted though he wouldn't see it.
(Siguraduhin mo lang.) I heard him say na may tono ng pagbabanta. Ako pa nag-alalaga, ako pa pinagbabantaan. Tsk tsk.
“You better come and see for yourself!”
After that, he didn't answer. I thought he hunged up but the call was still on.
“Hey! Are you still there or am I talking to the air already?” I jokingly asked.
(Just take care of her. I trust you.) His tone was serious, really serious.
“Wait, aren’t you going to visit her here? Don't you want to clear things up?” I suggested.
There was a long pause before I heard him cough and replied to me. (Nope. Bye.) And he suddenly hunged up.
What is his problem?! =____=
I was about to return to my room when my phone rang. It's a call from... someone I honestly don't want to talk to.
“What do you want?” Walang gana kong tanong while leaning on the wall.
(Hindi yan ang tamang pambungad sa caller--)
“WHAT.DO.YOU.WANT?” I asked her again, emphasizing each word of the sentence.
(Okay okay. Gusto ko lang sanang tanungin kung kailan ka susunod samin dito sa States? Umuwi ka na.) She told me in her 'motherly' tone. Tsk.
“Susunod?" Takang tanong ko. "Bakit? Are you in States?” After that incident 3 days ago, I had no communication or even news about her. Well, do I even care?
(Yes, and you’re cousin is, I guess, already having his time in Cebu before following me here. Kaya mabuti pang sumunod ka na rin nang makapagsimula kayo kaagad okay?)
I was so sudden that I shouted at the phone, not minding that I was actually talking to my 'mom'. "WHAT THE HELL?! HE'S IN CEBU?"
(I know you heard what I just said. Hindi mo rin kailangang sumigaw. And watch your words dear.)
“Xavier is in Cebu?” I asked again, still not convinced.
(Yes. Kahapon pa sya andoon. He’s having a vacation bago tuluyang pumunta dito sa States. Kaya sumunod ka na din.)
Walang pagdadalawang isip kong binaba ang phone and started to dial Xavier's number again. Unfortunately, he's not answering it.
So, all I could do was text him.
Why the hell are you in Cebu?! And are you really going to US?! Why didn’t you tell me? Does Mei know about this?
I am not concern if he's gonna go to States if only he informed Mei about this. But with the incident that happened 3 days ago, I don't think she knows... and this could make the matters worst!
I patiently waited for his oh so tagal na reply. Jeez!!!
She doesn’t need to know.
"She doesn't need to know?! Oh come on! This is absurd!" I shouted, getting attentions from the people in the hallway of the hotel.
Answer my call. NOW.
After a minute, I started to dial his number again expecting that he would answer. But that dude is getting on my nerves already~! His obviously not answering the phone on purpose. Why is he so stubborn these past few days?!
I scanned my contacts finding another way to communicate with him, but I just couldn't find one. And I was left with no choice...
I guess her little sister knows about it, right?
(Hello Kuya~!!!) A high pitched voice of a girl greeted me.
"Where's your Kuya?" I directly asked her, not to waste the time.
(Eh? Di mo ba alam Kuya Kai? Sa Cebu po sya ngayon... having his vacation I guess.) Her tone was kinda unsure.
“Why is he there? Do you know anything about this?”
(Umm..) When she says that, often she knows something but just unsure if she have to say it.
“Spill it Xyla! I need to know everything you know. This is an Emergency~!” Though it's not actually.
(Okay okay. Umalis sya kasi ano... as far as I know, mukhang dahil sa nangyari sa kanila ni Ate Mei sa school nila.)
So that's what it is. Hmmm. I was about to ask another question when she continued. (Wait Kuya. Do you even know that incident? Basta, they had a fight where they got everyone's attention in the University. Tsaka Kuya Kai, I just want to ask. Kilala mo ba si Ate Mei? Mukhang kilala ka nya e. Before kasi ng accident nya--)
And then there was a long pause. “Hmm? What are you talking about?”
(Ah.. wala po. Nevermind nalang.)
“Please cooperate Xyla. I need to know okay?”
I heard her sighed on the other line before she started to tell what really happened before Mei got into an accident.
And I was dumbfounded when I heard it all. Now that I know, the accident was partly my fault. “Why didn’t you guys tell me about it?!” I exploded in irritation.
(I'm sorry Kuya. Why? Did something happen? I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to keep that secret.) I can feel she is scared. Oh stupid Kai. You don't have to shout at her. Jeez.
"No... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have shouted at you. It's not your fault okay?" Huminga ako ng malalim bago nagpatuloy. “Xyla…nagku-kwento naman sayo ang Kuya mo right?”
(Opo Kuya.)
"Then answer my question, will you?" Ito lang ang pwedeng maging dahilan kung bakit ganun ang asota ni Sissy sa akin.
(Ano po yun?)
“Didn’t he tell Mei that he’s an adopted child?”
(Eh? Sa pagkakaalam ko Kuya, hindi pa nya nasasabi. At pakiramdam ko wala syang planong sabihin sa kanya.)
Napamura ako sa narinig kong sagot ni Xyla.
Oh no... I thought he told her!
So this was basically the reason why she's acting weird?!
