T H I R D * P E R S O N
Riley sat down in a chair, as she quietly sang along to "One Day" by Kodaline. It was one of her favorites song.
She softly applied blush to her cheeks, with a swipe of mascara onto her long eyelashes before she heard a clunk behind her. Riley swiftly turned around, before she saw Maya sitting down at the bay window.
"Peaches!" Maya exclaimed with a smile. Riley widely grinned. Maya as in a dress, which was very unusual, considering Maya was edgy. Riley still hadn't told Maya that Josh was coming, she wanted it to be a surprise.
"Hi peaches." Riley replied with a smile, as she walked over to her best friend. "So who is all coming today?" Maya queried, with a slight smirk. Riley was about to reply, but the doorbell instantly rang. Riley told everyone to meet at her house at 1:00, so everyone should be here any second. Riley's grin was wider than it has ever been before.
"Well come and see!" She exclaimed. Riley was just excited to see Maya's reaction to Josh coming. Maya giggled at Riley's silliness. They both stood up, walking towards Riley door, but as they walked by a mirror Riley checked herself one last time. She was wearing a pretty printed dress, with tights and some booties with heels and fringe. Her hair was straight, as her grandmas necklaces dangled on her chest.
She slightly smiled to herself, before her and Maya waltzed into the front room. Maya went to open up the door, as Riley checked the food on the table. Half of it was food Riley and her mom prepared earlier together, and the other half was store bought, but Riley moved them into pans to make it look like she cooked them.
Maya opened up the door, and there stood Farkle and Smackle, holding hands with cheesy turkey sweaters on. Maya tried to hold back a laugh.
"Nice sweaters." Maya finally said, bursting out in laughter. Farkle glared at Maya. Riley ran up behind Maya, also noticing the sweaters with the gigantic turkey sown on them. Riley sucked in her lips, trying to hold back her stifle of giggles.
"Hi Smackle." Riley finally said, smiling. Sometimes Riley would call her Isadora, other times Smackle.
"Hello Riley, Maya." Smackle smiled, trying to ignore Maya's stifle of giggles. "Hey Farkle." Riley says, fumbling with the door handle. Farkle grins. "Hey." He replies, before glaring back at Maya.
"Okay I'm going to go check on the mashed potatoes because I can. And it's my favorite food." Maya says quickly before bouncing over there. Riley rolled her eyes, moving out of the way so Farkle and Smackle could come in. They were so cute together, Riley always knew that they liked each other, she just didn't know they were together since they hadn't talked in weeks before.
Smackle and Farkle patted over to the table to check out the food, as Riley halfway shut the door before she heard someone shout; "Hey!"
Riley quickly opened the door, to see Josh standing there, slightly chuckling, considering that Riley almost shut him in the door.
"Hey Josh!" Riley said, quite loud so Maya could hear. Suddenly Maya's head perked up, before she dropped the dish in her hands down onto the ground. Riley's mouth fell agape, as she stared at Maya in disbelief. The glass shattering echoed throughout the apartment.
Maya just stared at Josh, before she quickly ran over to the couch, lying sideways with her hand on her hip.
"Sup." Was all she said, pretending to look casual. Farkle and Smackle fell into a fit of giggles, as Maya glared at them.
Josh couldn't help but laugh. "Hey Maya." He said unsparingly, but with a smile. Riley just frowned at the broken dish on the floor. So much for a great reaction, her mothers dish would break. Josh followed Maya over into the kitchen, as she picked up the broken glass.
Suddenly Riley heard the doorbell ring again. She let out a sigh, before she turned around, and swung the door open yet again.
It was Daniel.
Riley smiled brightly. "Hey Daniel."
"Hey Riley, you look great." Daniel complimented with a grin. Riley looked down to the floor, smiling.
"Thank you. Come on in." She spoke, moving out of the way so that he could walk in. Riley looked down the hallway, to see if Lucas was there. She didn't see him, so she decided to close the door.
They all sat down in the living room, talking for a bit, before a knock came on the door. Riley finally stopped laughing from something that Daniel said.
"I'll get that." Riley said, chuckling. She stood up, adjusting her dress before she walked over to the door. She opened up the door,
and there stood Lucas. Along with Zay.
"Hi." Riley spoke.
Lucas's mouth suddenly slightly fell agape, face unreadable
"Woah sugar!" Zay suddenly said. Riley chuckled, as Lucas slapped Zay's chest.
"Hey.." Lucas replied, softly.
His eyes stared into Riley's, before he looked at her. Everything about her, looked absolutely beautiful. He was speechless.
Riley slightly blushed, Lucas didn't look too bad himself.
"Well, after you two are done staring into each other's souls, I'm going to go inside." Zay suddenly said, with a smirk. Lucas actually blushed, as he whacked Zay's arm.
Riley giggled. "Hey Zay. Come in." She said, moving out of the way so they could walk in. Riley said that Zay was welcomed to come with Lucas. Zay smiled at her, before he said thank you, swiftly walking past her. Riley turned her head back to Lucas, who was still staring at her. As Lucas walked past Riley to get inside, his face was centimeters away from hers, as his hand brushed against her wrist, and too her side.
Her stomach erupted in butterflies, as she turned to close the door, she bit the side of her lip to hold back a smile.
Lucas walked over to the couch where everyone was, before he saw someone he was not expecting to see. And whom he most definitely didn't want to see.
Daniel.
Lucas's jaw slightly clenched.
"Hey." Daniel said, smirking to Lucas. Lucas didn't smirk, didn't smile. His face was unreadable.
"Yeah, hey. I didn't know that Riley invited you." Lucas said, before he put on a fake smile, finally. Farkle and Maya could sense the jealously, they both looked at each other confusingly.
"Yeah she did. Riley's a sweet girl." Daniel said, looking over to Riley who was now standing beside him. Riley smiled. "Thanks Daniel." She said.
Lucas stared at the two, as his blood slightly boiled.
"Well! I don't know about ya'll but I'm starving. Let's go eat." Maya said, standing up. Josh, Farkle and Smackle stood up along with her as they all headed into the kitchen to sit down.
Josh pulled out a seat for Maya, as Maya deeply blushed. Daniel did the same thing for Riley, except she wasn't bouncing off the walls about it. Lucas glared at Daniel as he did so.
Riley was in between Lucas and Daniel, and well. The awkwardness was real.
Once everyone was seated, Riley set out her hands.
"Okay. I'll say the prayer real quick so we can shove our mouths with food." Riley giggled, as everyone slightly chuckled. Everyone held hands. Daniel grabbed Riley's left hand, as Lucas laced his fingers through Riley's right hand. Riley looked over, eyes meeting with his. It was like a perfect fit.
Riley quickly tore her eyes away from his, before she knew she wouldn't be able to. She looked down, closing her eyes.
"Dear Lord, thank you for our f-food—" Riley suddenly stuttered, as she felt Lucas graze his thumb across hers. She tried focusing again. "Thank you for all you've given us in o-our um, l-lives—" Lucas continued to softly rub his fingers over hers delicately, and Riley literally could not think straight. She couldn't help but feel her skin tingle. She couldn't even feel Daniels hand anymore, it was as if he wasn't even there. She could only feel Lucas's.
Riley suddenly realized she took a long pause. "And..AMEN!" She exclaimed quite loudly, making everyone slightly jump and open their eyes. Riley quickly moved her hand away from Lucas's.
Lucas just looked at her, he could see her blushing. He slightly smiled to himself. He definitely had an affect on her.
Zay suddenly clasped his hands together. "Let's eat!" He exclaimed, before everyone dug up their food.

R I L E Y
"I feel like I can roll all over the ground like a potato I'm so full." Riley moaned, as she held her stomach. Everyone laughed.
"Agreed." Maya yawned, leaning back as her head lied on Josh's shoulder. Riley saw Josh blush, which made her happy. Riley knew that he likes Maya too.
They all lied on the chairs in couches, moaning, relaxing after eating all that food.
"So Daniel, you just moved here?" Farkle asks. Daniel nodded. "Yep, from London." He smiled. "Nice!" Josh said. "Yeah, his dad own a bank company. He's moved from California to London to New York." Riley smiled. Daniel nodded yet again.
Lucas's mouth slightly fell open. He couldn't believe it, Daniel was rich. A rich dude, and Lucas, well isn't even close to that.
Lucas turned towards Zay, so nobody else could hear him. "How do I even begin to compete with him?" Lucas sighed. "I don't know." Zay said, shoving some pie in his mouth. Lucas glared at him. "I'm joking. Just because he's rich doesn't mean he has everything." Zay replied, swallowing his food.
Lucas looked behind him, seeing Riley and Daniel laughing.
"Does he?" Lucas whispered, as he stared at Riley.
The laughter finally died down from everyone sharing stories, and something caught Farkles eye.
"Let's play a game." Farkle suddenly said. Riley perked up. "Yeah, that'd be fun." She smiled. Farkle looking underneath the coffee table, pulling out a game box. "The couples game!" Farkle said. "What is it?" Lucas suddenly rose from his position, voice high and dry. Riley furrowed her eyebrows at him.
"The couples game. Everyone pick a partner, I of course pick my beautiful girlfriend Smackle." Farkle says, as he looks at Smackle. She blushes and holds on tighter to his arm.
"I'm with boing boing over here." Maya said, scooting closer to Josh. "Perfect." He says, grinning at Maya. She smiled brightly.
Riley turned her head, to see Lucas and Daniel standing in front of her. Her slight grin faded away.
"Um I guess my partner will b—""I'll be your partner." Daniel says, standing up closer to Riley. Riley looked over to Lucas, whom was slightly upset inside. And, well slightly jealous.
"I guess that leaves Zay and Lucas. Cute couple." Maya giggled. Lucas shot Maya a glare.
Zay came up and patted Lucas's back. "Me and you buddy, forever." Zay said, pretending to fake cry on Lucas's shoulder. Lucas pushed Zay's face off of his shoulder with a laugh. They all positioned themselves, as they pulled out the cards.
"Okay I guess I'll go first." Riley spoke, pulling out the first card.
"What is your partners favorite movie?" Riley said aloud. Lucas stared at the two, eyes wide. Daniel smirked at Riley.
"I know this because we went to the movies, Spectre." Riley said, slightly low. Daniel smiled. "You guys went to the movies?" Lucas suddenly said. All heads turned towards Lucas and Riley. Riley's eyes went wide, as she looked at Lucas.
Zay made a 'yikes' face, before he sipped on his drink awkwardly.
"Well, I fell asleep during the movie, it was just earlier this week no biggie." Riley replied, pushing a piece of hair behind her ear. It really meant nothing to her, not like that night with Lucas meant.
"Was it a problem that they went together?" Smackle spoke. Riley and Lucas stared at each other. "No. I was just asking. No biggie, right Riley?" Lucas said.
Riley let out a fake laugh, she couldn't believe this. "Yeah. Not a big deal. Next question, Maya!" She exclaimed, trying to change the subject.
Maya picked up a card. "Is it possible to love someone throughout your whole school experience?" Maya's voice became shaky. Her eyes met with Josh's, and he smiled. She didn't even have to answer the question.
Farkle went next,
Then it was Zay.
"A bad habit that your partner has?" Zay said, before he started laughing uncontrollably. Everyone looked confused. Zay finally stopped laughing.
"Well, my honey poo here." He said, tapping Lucas's shoulder. Lucas couldn't help but laugh at how stupid this was.
"He never wears a damn shirt when he's alone. Usually I show up uninvited but whatever, he has damn abs and I just have flab!" Zay said, flailing his hands in the air. Riley could feel her cheeks instantly heat up, just thinking of Lucas without a shirt.
'Dammit, stop it Riley.' She thought.
Her eyes caught with Lucas's, and he noticed her rosy cheeks. Lucas give her a smoldering expression, as he unbuttoned the top button of his dark blue shirt, revealing a little part of his chest to her. Riley rolled her eyes with a giggle, before he buttoned it back up, slightly smiling to her.
Daniel caught on and cleared his throat.
"Alright my turn." He suddenly said, making everyone turn their attention towards him. Daniel pulled out a card, before reading it out loud.
"What is your partners favorite animal?" It said. "Um.. Maybe a—" "Bunny." Lucas cut him off. Daniel glared at him. "Really Friar, it was my question." He said. Lucas put his hands in in defense. "Sorry." He responded. Daniel took out another card, looking at Lucas before speaking.
"Does your partner prefer study dates or movie dates?"
"Studying.." Lucas quietly said, but only Riley heard. They caught eyes and she innocently smiled at him, because he was right.
Because that was something that they shared together, that's when Riley and Lucas connected.
"Movies maybe?" Daniel said. Riley felt a weight lift off of her shoulders, because she honestly didn't want Daniel to get it right.
Riley shook her head.
"No." She lightly laughed. "But you can do one more since you go that one wrong." Riley smiled.
Daniel nodded, pulling out one last card.
"What is something that your partner has always wanted?" He said aloud. It was quiet for a few, as he tried to think. "Well I don't really know, actually." Daniel slightly chuckled.
Lucas let out a slight laugh. Riley sent daggers towards him. "How could you not know?" Lucas says in a harsh tone towards Daniel. Riley stood up.
"Me and Daniel have only known each other for a little bit more than a week, we don't know everything about each other." Riley sputtered, glaring at Lucas. She has had enough of his attitude tonight.
She just didn't know that he was acting this, because he was jealous.
"I knew this about you within two days of knowing you, Riley!" Lucas said, standing up in front of Riley.
"She wants a passionate life, full of happiness and care for others. She wants everyone and everything in this world to be at peace and taken care of. She wants things that normally other people would never dream of striving for. She has always wanted love."
Lucas spoke.
Everyone in the room was speechless. They all just stared at the two, who were staring at each other.
Riley breathlessly looked at Lucas, and he desperately looked at her.
He could always read her like an open book, and she knew that now. And it scared her.
It was dead silent.
"My stomach hurts. I need fresh air." Riley choked out, quickly walking over to grab her coat, before she rushed out the door.
Lucas stood there quietly, before he found the strength to go after her. Ignoring everyone else, he walked out the door.
Riley made her way up to the top of the roof, at her apartment building. She pushed the door open, the view of the night New York skyline bright in front of her. It calmed her when she came up here.
She walked over to the ledge, looking down at the busy cars and people walking by. The chilly breeze brushed against her cheek, before she heard a door creak open.
She turned her head, and Lucas appeared. She quickly looked back down to the passing cars.
Lucas slowly made his way over to Riley, leaning over the ledge next to her.
They were both so quiet.
"I never knew New York could look this beautiful." Riley spoke, not taking her eyes off of the stars in the sky.
Lucas just glanced at Riley.
"Yeah..It is beautiful." He whispered, not taking his eyes off of Riley. She turned her head, eyes meeting with his green orbs.
Lucas let out a fake cough, as he looked up to the sky. "So do you come up here often?" He asked. Riley smiled.
"It's my favorite place to be." She says softly. Lucas smiled. "That doesn't surprise me." He replies, before looking back up again.
Riley looked at Lucas, now it was her turn to stare.
It was quiet, all they could hear was the light sound of cars rushing and light music from the plaza below.
Riley curiously fixed her eyes on him, studying features she's never noticed before in the moonlight.
"Why don't you let anyone see the good in you?" She asked.
Lucas adverted his eyes at Riley.
"Because I'm not a good guy, I do bad things. And nobody deserves to be let down by me when I make a mistake, because I usually eventually will. Because that's who I am." He replies mellowly.
"That is not who you are." Riley breathlessly spoke. Lucas moved away from the ledge.
"I'm not going to change, I want you to know that. I can't change, Riley. There's too much bad shit in this world. And you're one of the people who doesn't deserve to be let down.." Lucas said, realizing something to himself.
Riley looked lost, she didn't know what to say. She just looked at him.
"I don't do right, but I have to do right by you... So thanks for everything today, but I have to go.. Goodnight Riley." Lucas says, avoiding Riley's eyes because he knew it would just break his heart from the look on her face.
He pushed open the door and walked out.
Riley didn't stop him, she just let him go.
"But maybe you're the right for me..."
She said quietly.
