6:59pm displayed on the clock as I laid across Shawn's lap.
"Its been so long since we've had this much time with each other." I said as I looked up at him.
"You right but I cant give it to you every night baby, you wont get nothing done."
I laughed.
"You are a mess!"
"Yea and you married this mess."
"I did." I responded with a smile. "Can you believe its been four years though?"
"It went by fast."
"It did and we have one year left until we can say we passed the test."
"What test?"
"You know what they say.. The first five years are the test of your marriage. If we can survive those five years, we can survive anything that comes our way."
"I've never heard of it."
"That's because us women talk about those type of things. Most men think like pops from the wayne brothers.. just bang! bang! bang! bang! bang!."
He laughed as I impersonated pops.
"I didn't think like that."
I rose up from his lap.
"You didn't?"
"Nah. I knew who I wanted."
"So you gone act like I didn't have to argue with a few birds when we were together?"
"Nah you did, You use to be a good girl before you met me. Back then you just want to be bad for me like Nicki."
I laughed as I got up.
"What you want to eat silly boy."
"I just ate woman and I cleaned my plate." He responded as he made slurping noises.
"I'm serious Shawn."
He laughed.
"I don't know. Just whip it up and make it good for me."
"Looka here Future."
He smiled.
"Wings baby. Wings."
I pulled out the chicken to let it thaw out.
The day eased on as we spent all our time wrapped up under each other. We ate and chatted as we watched movies back to back.
*Knock Knock Knock
"Now who could that be?"
"I don't know it aint for me." Shawn replied.
I got up from his embrace to answer the door.
"Who is it?"
"Greg."
I opened the door.
"Hey Greg, whats up?"
"Whats good P, Shawn here?"
"Yea c'mon." I said as led the way to the living room. "Shawn your brother is here."
We walked into the living room where he was.
"Whats up bro, what brings you by?"
"I dont mean to interrupt y'all but Shawn we need to go to the hospital."
Shawn jumped up off the couch.
"Why?"
"Its pops."
"Oh my gosh is he alright?" I asked jumping in the conversation.
"I dont know, moms called crying telling me to come to the hospital."
"Shit." Shawn said as he ran to the back to put on clothes.
"I'm coming with ya'll." I yelled as I headed to the back.
"No P, youre staying here?" Shawn said.
"What? No I want to go!"
"Look everything will be fine, I just need you to stay here. okay? I'll call you and let you know whats up." He explained as he kissed my forehead and walked out the door with Greg."
I flopped down on the couch. I was mad as hell that Shawn wouldn't let me go along with them. I wanted to be by my father-in-law's side.
Hours passed and I heard nothing from them. I found myself dozing off on the couch as I waited for Shawn to call. When I woke up it was three in the morning and Shawn still wasn't home. I got up from the couch and went into the bedroom. I grabbed my phone to call him but I heard the front door open and close. I walked back into the living room to see Shawn walking in.
"Is everything okay baby?" I asked as I walked up to him.
He looked down at the floor before he spoke.
"Nah.. he had a wreck on his way home..."
"But he's going to be alright.. right?"
"He in ICU babe."
Shawn balled up his fist as he talked. I knew how much Shawn loved his father and seeing him hurt made me hurt. I eased over to Shawn who tried his hardest to hold back his tears as he squeezed the very top of his nose with his thumb and fore-finger. I placed my arms around him as he laid his head into my chest.
"Its okay baby." I repeated in his ear as he squeezed me while he let out his emotions.
The sunlight poured into our master bedroom as I woke up to a sleeping Shawn. I went into the bathroom to tend to the usual and shower. After I was done I walked into the kitchen to make breakfast . A little while later Shawn walked in.
"Goodmorning babe."
"Goodmorning." He said as he sat down at the table.
"I made waffles." I said as I placed his food in front of him.
"Thanks babe, I really appreciate all you do."
"I do it because I love you."
"I know it." He said as he ate. " I think I'm going to cancel my plans for today. " He said in a blunt tone.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"Its Sunday.. most people don't work today plus I've got a lot on my plate right now."
I sat down in front of him.
"Its whatever you want to do Shawn.."
He didn't say much after that. He just ate in silence. I understand that everything going on with his father was overwhelming but I'm sure he wouldn't want Shawn to put his career on hold. Either way I was behind him no matter what he chose to do .. but deep down in my gut I knew that this was going to be one rocky week coming up.
