Waves of Mass Tourism

Reggae music blasts the streets of Ao Nang. The 1960s bus pulls a U-turn, and stops to drive us to the budget snorkel tour. Hundreds of confused falangs* await the Thai's instructions and colour-coded stickers.

Engines roar, water splashes and our fleet is off.

Blue skies melt into ocean, sandbars fade with rising tide, and camouflaged fish dart in front of snorkel masks.

Time's up. Hop on!

Snorkel, photograph Chicken Island, lunch, and more snorkeling.

Tourists are the islands' sole occupants.

Last stop should console the crying baby braving rough waters and blaring noise.

Swim and snorkel.

Rise and repeat.

*Falang is Thai for foreigner.

I hope you're having a great weekend. Thanks for reading!
