Climbing Taungkalat honours Great Nats,
Spirits who die in violence.
Four reside here.
Blacksmith's incredible strength,
Crafts royal horror.
"Your sister has become the queen!"
King proclaims.
At royal city,
The blacksmith,
Tied to a tree,
Burns alive.
His sister leaps into flames.
The tree curses those who walk under it.
Thrown in the river,
Washed up in Bagan,
Sculpted into statues for Taungkalat.
Taungkalat ogress captures a heart,
Byatta, King Anawrahta's flower fetcher,
Superhuman runner.
Royal disapproval inspires his execution.
The ogress dies of despair.
Their two sons,
Bagan workers,
Meet a similar fate,
Neglecting pagoda labour.
Forever Nats.

Thank you for reading! Happy holidays for anyone celebrating this weekend or next. I hope they are enjoyable and warm.
Just a note on the photos, I didn't actually take any pictures of the Nat statues, but other bloggers/travel sites did so I'll leave some links in the comments section since there are a few. There's also more information on the temples and history that didn't fit into the drabble if you're interested.
