"Sir, anything else?" I took a sip of the brandy and peered over my glass at my assistant.

"You're fired" I stated and took another sip, the ice made a soft crackling noise against the glass she gasped.

"What? Why? You can't fire me," she flipped her hair back in a huff. I put down the glass and let my fingers drift over the rim before standing up and walking to her, stopping so that I was just an inch away from her face.

"You stole from me, you took documents that weren't yours to take or for that fact yours to give to our opponents-pack up your things and get the hell out!"

She didn't say anything else and retreated to her desk. I still had a headache from the night I had last night, all I can remember is a pair of green eyes. One night stands are never memorable for me including this one.

There was a knock at my door, was she just looking for trouble?

"I thought I told you to fu-"

"I would've remembered that." My uncle's voice sounded as he came in.

"Sorry about that," He just chuckled before he handed me a file.

"Here's your new assistant's CV and so on, and here is your new client, get it done." He walked away, his black leather shoes making a clicking sound in the hallway, even if I was the owner he pulls seniority on me. I peered at the file, my surname on the front always makes me feel better Stone & Partners.

Our business wasn't as ordinary as it sounds, we manage our clients' finances and assets but our clients; let's just say that their money is a darker color red than we care to find out about.

Don't ask is our motto for a reason.

I tossed the file in my cabinet; I go through secretaries like I go through a suit which is relatively fast. I don't expect whoever that is to stay on very long so I do not need to read that CV.

I made my way to my matte black Lamborghini; my brother was also walking to his car, busy on his phone.

"Adrian," He looked up at me and smiled, unlocking his car and stuffing his phone in his pocket. His McLaren was nice, unfortunately, he didn't drive as well as I do.

" Ah, so you got the Lamborghini out today?" He softly mocked.

"I thought it would be a nice race today, seeing you lose, again."

"We'll see," The beauty of our cars going over the limit, zooming past the turns, the open two AM roads made for good drag racing, but it wasn't for the faint-hearted. I gave him a wave as I passed him, heading home. He hit his steering wheel in defeat, that's why I'm the older brother.

I made my way to my office the following morning. Adrian was talking to a girl just as I rounded the corner, I didn't see her and bumped into her, she stumbled backward but thankfully I caught her just in time.

"Sorry I didn't see you there." She nodded and shrugged. I haven't seen her around before.

"This is Juliet O'Malley; she's your new assistant." I narrowed my eyes studying her, black heels, pencil skirt and aqua colored shirt. She had dark brown hair that was pulled up. She looked so familiar but I couldn't place her.

"Nice to meet you." I shook her hand lightly, her hand fit snugly in mine though she didn't have a very tight grip.

"Like I mentioned you'll be working for Blake or Mr. Stone here, he'll show you around." I nodded reluctantly, I am the boss and I don't give assistants tours. I walked to the desk in front of my office.

"This is your desk, through that door is my office. The copy room is beside Adrian's office there." We got into the elevator after I showed her my office.

We walked through the conference rooms and the other floors including Accounting and HR too. Those were by far the most boring floors. The top floor, where my office is, that is where the magic happens.

I ended the tour since I had a meeting and better things to do with my time than show around the assistant. I better talk to HR to get them someone who does these things for me.

I got back from my meeting with some new investors and walked into my office later that morning. Juliet was at her desk, right where I need her.

Things were certainly looking up from my previous assistant.

I started going through the financial reports, they just droned on, my eyes drifted up to Juliet outside the glass wall. She looked confused at her computer screen, my eyes drifted back to the papers. I wasn't going to be done anytime soon and I pity her.

The way she looked and moved fascinated me for a moment; there is something to her that I can't place.

"Can I help with something?" I leaned against the doorway, my hands in my pockets.

"Uh...no, sir." She turned a shade of pink before quickly glancing back at the screen.

"Liar," I walked up behind her chair to see where she was stuck, I showed her what to do, leaning closer to the screen and nearer to her, I got a hint of her subtle floral perfume and a glint of the hair on the back of her neck standing up.

After helping her I went back to work, her scent unsettled me so much I could hardly concentrate. I know that smell but I couldn't place her at all.

The day was almost done, she was still working, and she had a little frown on her face. I locked my door and stood in front of her desk, she looked up at me warily. I think she's scared of me. Good.

She had a look about her, it wasn't a steely look or even anxious she just looked innocent. In this line of work, her innocence was going to be ripped away from her, when playing with sharks you need some rough edges to protect you.

"Ye..yes sir?" She blew out a breath, keeping her eyes on me. She probably has heard the rumors about me, that's why she's scared. I've been nothing but nice to her this morning.

"You're done for the day, come with me," I ordered, she didn't ask any questions, she took her bag and walked with me. She trusted me too easily; I could be one of these sharks, I was one of the sharks.

She stopped at my car.

"Sir, where are we going?" I frowned, I hate when someone calls me sir but in business, it is necessary to keep boundaries. Yet here I was contradicting myself.

"Please call me Blake, when we're not in the office-we're going to dinner. I do this with all my new employees as a welcome gift." She probably thinks that I am kidnapping her, I'm not. I need to find out where I know her from. I never get unsettled unless something is wrong, she unsettled me too easily.

The ride was tense, she couldn't look me in the eye.

She was deathly scared of me, I kind of felt bad that someone that doesn't know me thinks I'm a monster, I was actually part monster but not all of me was.

I studied her face for a moment, she had beautiful green eyes, dark hair and she had a stoic look on her face. She looked like someone who had a lot to say but was too used to not saying anything.

I pulled out the chair for her in the restaurant, she sat down quickly. I should have done this another way, more private but spur of the moment I guess.

I ordered wine, she still didn't look me in the eyes.

"Juliet?"

"Yes ...Blake?" She swallowed the words.

"Do I scare you?"

She swallowed harder.

"No, you don't," she echoed softly.

Dinner was quiet; I asked her a few simple questions here and there but nothing personal slipped.

We walked out of the restaurant; I stopped her, stepping in front of her. Leaning over, I whispered in her ear,

"Don't be afraid, fear is weakness and men prey on weakness."

She shouldn't be afraid of me, she hasn't seen what I've seen in this business so she had no reason to be afraid of me. Yet.

She had to be afraid of everybody else.
