"If you try, you risk failure. If you don't, you ensure it." -Anonymous

J o r d y nT a m e

HE PIERCED MY skin sending vigorous shocks of pain through my neck. I gasped; my mouth gaping in shock. Lexis' teeth had punctured the surface of my skin and while doing so penetrating my flesh. I was at loss of breath but was resuscitated when the sharp pain was substituted by pleasure.

His touch was everywhere. His fingertips teasing my whole body while waves of pleasure erupted through me.

I moaned in bliss, my breathing now quickening. The pleasure of Lexis' bite was feeding me energy.

"O-Oh my god..." I breathe out due to the unbelievable sensation.

I hiss when Lexis removed his teeth from my flesh. The elongated canines slowly shrink back to their normal size, and his dark eyes gradually return back to their blue pigment.

Soreness lingered on the sensitive skin while my body tried to recover from the aggressiveness of my emotions.

I couldn't help but notice the pride in Lexis' eyes. He lowers his head to my ear, his icy breath forming bumps on my skin. "Your scent drives me insane, and your voice takes me away from everything else. I can feel you everywhere now." He breathes out.

"I love you," I whisper.

The words I spoke have never felt truer. I felt different, I felt at peace. Lexis ignited a part of me that did indeed bring me solace. It made me love him more than I thought possible. Our love was already deep and sensitive...but it never felt more real.

Lexis doesn't say anything but his eyes told me a lot. There was something he wanted to say...but he didn't. For some reason that didn't concern me; his eyes reassured me of everything I feared.

His lips touch my skin kissing me on the most delicate parts of my collarbone.

"Are you scared about our future?" I asked him.

I did not know what our future consisted of, but I knew how much danger the mark on my neck could cause.

Lexis stops kissing my skin staying silent. His breathing could be heard. It was louder and much more aggressive than mine. I could hear it so much better now. Is this what Lexis meant? I can feel him everywhere now.

He finally speaks, his voice taking me away from my thoughts.

"It's inevitable."

The red lines contrasted with my skin. Each going in different directions forming pretty patterns, yet the boldest marks were three lines that made a sideways 'M'. I didn't know the meaning of the symbol, but still I smiled at the mark in glee. Was it vain that I could feel him everywhere? Was it hopeless for me to wish for different circumstances? Circumstances in which I could be with him in any way we chose.

I wanted to stop the secrets...

I wanted to stop the hiding...

I wanted to defeat the fear...

I take some new clothes from the dresser before laying them out on the bed. I feel Lexis' presence behind me before turning around and ruining his attempt to surprise me.

"Damn," He growled. "you usually don't notice until my hands are here..." He says snaking his arms around me slowly.

I chuckled softly before giving him a challenging look.

"It's like I have powers..." I joked. "Your presence is much stronger now."

Lexis smiles revealing his white teeth with his canines humbly sticking out. "It's not a superpower, baby." He says before removing his hands from me and walking over to the desk in the room. "It's the mate bond."

He sits down on the desk and pulls out papers from the drawers. His face becomes more focused as he begins to sign documents.

"What are you doing?" I ask curiously.

"I have some papers to work on." He tells me. "Today I have to make a trip to the union capital and meet some high titled officials to discuss relations regarding my pack."

"Can I come?"

Lexis turns to face me with an eyebrow raised. His pink lips stayed in a straight line while the blue in his eyes darkened.

"I don't think so." He mutters. "It's not safe."

"I am Alpha female..." I point out as if he has forgotten.

"I know, Jordyn." He mumbles. "But I marked you. That's the clearest indication of what we are to each other and I won't risk that."

"You think I didn't consider the risks the moment I let you do it? You think I was clueless about the consequences?" I question while approaching him at the desk. "Lexis I knew what I was getting into, and I still know the circumstances I am in."

"Jordyn-"

I cut him off by settling myself into his lap straddling him while doing so. Lexis' eyes grow darker at my boldness and that only further fueled my confidence.

"We're a team," I whisper. "I know you are used to doing everything individually but I want you to know that I am perfectly capable of assisting you. You need to stop trying to protect me from your world."

Lexis sighs before tightening his grip on my hips. "I don't think you understand why I feel it is my responsibility to shield you from the impurities of this world. I'm not just your Alpha, mate, and lover. Jordyn, I'm the one who will make sure to be your strength when you have none. I'm the one who will love you even when you can't seem to love yourself. I will be your sacrifice if I have to. I will die on any battlefield for you. I will lay my life down."

The emotions in his voice caused me to be entranced by his words. Lexis' words were always serious and were always real, but the words he just spoke were not just deliberate. They were willful. They were both wonderful and painful to hear.

His speech was so powerful my body was shaking in his arms. I did not know how to carry on the conversation or whether I should continue to debate on my role as his Alpha female. At that moment I just wanted intimacy with him.

I pressed my lips against his initiating a kiss. Lexis lips move aggressively against mine igniting a pleasurable feeling in my chest. Something about kissing after being marked was empowering. It was dangerously blissful. I pull away worried about us getting too carried away.

"Baby girl, I don't know what you're doing to me."

I look up at him meeting his eyes. "As of I."

Lexis and I sat in the limousine patiently waiting for Johnathan to instruct the driver to our destination. I fixed the scarf covering my neck trying to make it look like a fashion statement rather than a cover-up.

"You must be careful at all costs. Beware of your surroundings and don't leave my side." Lexis spoke, speaking of his rules for what felt like the twentieth time.

"Lexis," I sighed glancing over at him. His eyes were fixated towards the front of the car not daring to meet mine. His face was expressionless and his body was still. "I can hold my own."

Lexis scoffs before a taunting smirk sprawls on his lips; his pearly white teeth becoming visible. "You obviously enjoy playing with the devil, Jordyn." He growls.

I narrow my eyes at his response but before I could say anything, Johnathan and our driver had finally arrived inside the limousine.

"Good day Alpha and Alpha female, your driver has been informed of your destination." Johnathan tells us.

"How convenient..." Lexis mutters under his breath aggravated.

"Thank you, Johnathan." I recognize his efforts before glaring over at Lexis. "Lexis and I really appreciate your service."

Johnathan gives a cheeky smile before resting in his seat as the limo began to drive off.

I couldn't help but keep my focus on Lexis. It was as if everything he felt I could feel. I felt his aggravation towards Johnathan earlier and I also felt his annoyance in our previous conversation earlier.

I sighed resting my head on my seat and closing my eyes trying to drain out the sound of the vehicle's engine.

"L-Lexis..." I moaned as his teeth attacked my skin.

The sound of his sharp breath is heard before he punctures my skin once again. Waves of pleasure hit my body causing an overwhelming chain of emotions.

The sudden eeriness of the room caused me to open my eyes. I looked at my surroundings in confusion. I wasn't in the safety of our bedroom but in a white room. A door was located a few feet away from me. My body was bounded to a chair with chains.

I wiggle my wrists in panic wondering what could be taking place behind the door. I calmed myself looking around to see if there was anything I could use to escape. My breathing quickened as my anxiety accumulated in my veins. The pressure of my worry hitting the pit of my stomach.

Suddenly the door opens causing a gasp to escape my lips. I watch as a man with greying blond hair and fair skin with feckless all over enters the room eyeing me intensely. I stiffen my body at his presence. He walked slowly towards me watching me curiously. I shut my eyes hoping that would take me away from what was going on but I still heard the man's footsteps.

It was only when his breath was felt against my nose I dared opened my eyes.

The man whispered two words.

"He's gone."

I gasped opening my eyes only to be relaxed by the sounds of the limousine moving against the road. Lexis instinctively glares at me with worry, his body tensing up. He places his large hand on my thigh gently before rubbing circles on my skin.

I turned to look at him in awe. I was unable to speak and the palms of my hands were sweaty. My rapid breathing subsiding as I came to the realization of where I was.

"Alpha female, are you alright?" Johnathan asks.

"She's fine," Lexis answers for me dismissing Johnathan.

Johnathan looks over at Lexis skeptically then turns around to face the front. I could feel the limo start to slow and I could hear Johnathan mutter something to the driver.

I glanced outside the windows to see the crowds of citizens walking across the streets. Thousands of businessmen and businesswomen walked into the tall skyscrapers with briefcases. The sky in this area was dark even though back at the mansion the light blue of the morning sky was prominent. The lights of the buildings lit up the sudden dark sky creating a beautiful star effect.

I flinch when sudden commotion attacks my ears. Screams and the clicks of cameras are now heard all across the limousine. Alpha Lexis' name is being chanted throughout the crowd surrounding the limousine.

"Lexis, how are we going to get to the union capital's building?" I asked him.

He looks over at me with a grin before nodding his head to the front of him. "We're already here."

I move my body so I could get a good view of the driver's window. My mouth parts in shock at the sight of the building. My teachers back in the settlements would always describe to me what it looked like, but seeing it in person showed me their words were an understatement.

Johnathan turns around to face us with an excited smile. "Right now we are located on what the union likes to call 'the circle'. It's about 500 feet from the union building but it's as far as we can go. Outside there are spacers that will take you the rest of the way. Whenever you both are ready to leave, tell an official to call me and let me know." He says trying to speak through the crowds chants.

I squint my eyes in confusion. "Spacers? What are spacers?"

"They are automotive mini vehicles that drive by themselves and are controlled by the union." Lexis informs me.

"But why-"

The commotion outside grows louder cutting me off and making my body go uneasy.

Johnathan chuckles. "I assure of you Alpha female, you will be fine. I suppose it's time for us to part ways. The crowd is anticipating on seeing you both."

Lexis grabs my hand before opening his door allowing the screams of those around us to be heard at full volume. He heads out of the limo before assisting me out as well. The crowd's shouts were turned into rounds of applause and their welcomes.

"Lexis, we have no sort of security. Where are the guards? How are we supposed to travel 500 feet without being mauled by this excessive crowd?"

Lexis points to the thin metal rims that were placed 5 feet from each other. The rims circled around us, and I wondered how those tiny rims were going to keep the crowd at bay.

"Any union citizen knows that those are electromagnetic shockers, and they wouldn't dare try to cross the rims." Lexis tells me.

"Yeah," I sigh anxiously. "but they are too close for my liking."

Lexis turns his body so that he was facing me and studies me closely. I tried to keep my eyes on him but the flashing of cameras was a distant distraction.

"What happened in the car earlier?" He asks me. "You had me worried."

My body grows more uncomfortable. "Can we not talk about it here in front of all these people?" I point out to him.

He caresses my face with his thumb, worry still in his eyes. It was almost as if he was trying to read my emotions through our strengthened bond.

"I can't risk it." He suddenly says causing me to narrow my eyes. "Johnathan!"

The limousine stops at the root of its exit causing my body to grow more sensitized of what my Alpha was trying to do. I watch as the vehicle backs up before parking a few feet from us near 'the circle'.

"L-Lexis w-what are you doing?" I question barely able to address him clearly.

"Baby, I'm doing what I think is right. Obviously, you are too shaken up right now to handle assisting me in this meeting-"

"No," I whisper shaking my head. "I'm fine."

"Jordyn, just admit it. You're not. You're too vulnerable right now, and I can't risk it. I can't risk them finding out." He tells me quietly.

I understood his fear of the union finding out that we were mates, but not allowing me to attend the meeting wasn't right. This would be my first time establishing my reign as Alpha female, and he knows how important that is to me. The only way for me to be allowed the opportunity to bring change into this world is through my established rights as a leader.

"B-But you agreed that we were a team?" I ask growing frustrated with him and the bright flashes of the crowd's cameras.

"We are, Jordyn. We are."

"Then why can't you trust my word?"

"I can't lose you." Was all he could say before turning towards the limousine. "Take her back home. She isn't feeling well."

I glare at Lexis in shock of his actions at the moment. The thought of losing me impacted him so badly that he didn't mind shutting me away from my common duty.

"Yes, Alpha." I heard Johnathan's voice before Lexis reached out to open the door of the limousine.

I eye the vehicle in front of me before walking towards the door.

"I love you," Lexis whispered into my ear as I got into the car.

I didn't respond through my words but through my eyes, and I could tell Lexis saw the mixed emotions in them. Lexis closed the door and said something to Johnathan before the limo began to drive off.

"Are you alright, Alpha female?" Johnathan asked curiously. "You have been silent this whole ride."

"Am I suppose to talk?" I respond irritated.

"No," He tells me. "but I am here if you would like to talk."

I didn't take him up on his offer and kept quiet. I focused my attention on the suburbs around us. We had left the city a few minutes ago and now all I could see was the green of suburbia. I focused my attention on the wild animals that roamed nearby trying to clear my head of what had occurred with Lexis earlier.

Instantaneously, a gunshot is heard and the limousine did a sudden jerk. My body is flung to the side and my head hits the window. I groan reaching up to feel the gash on my forehead and blood oozing slowly out of it.

I sit up straight trying to collect my thoughts. I look forward to see the driver laying there with a bullet sized wound on his abdomen. I looked in the seat next to the driver to see no sign of Johnathan.

What the hell was going on?

I slowly lift myself from my seat. I look around on the floor to see if he had gone unconscious and ended up under the seats but Johnathan's body wasn't anywhere to be found.

"Oh my god! Oh my god!" I holler in panic. I make my way over to the driver only to see that he wasn't shot just once but twice. The other wound was right near his heart. I placed my hands on my mouth trying to stop my sobs. Whoever did this could still be near.

I laid my head on the driver's chest and heard nothing. I checked his pulse only to feel nothing. He wasn't breathing. He was already gone. For the bullets to kill him at such a rapid rate, they must have been guns owned by the union. No civilian would be allowed such a weapon.

I looked out the windows to see no sign of anyone. I took a shaky breath before slowly opening the door to the limousine. I tried my best to stay silent, hoping that whoever was at fault for this would be long gone.

I leave the limousine before looking around once more making sure I was alone. Suddenly red liquid oozing out of the car caught my attention. The red substance was prominently displayed on the surface of the car before oozing onto the ground.

It looked as if something was spray painted onto the car after the act was committed.

The only true evidence of Lexis and me being mates was the sideways 'M' mark on my neck that was the aftermath of Lexis' bite...yet the same symbol was spray painted in red ink across the limousine.

My eyes widen when smoke began to emerge from the limousine. I stepped back as the smoke grew more opaque and thickened. I began to cough as it accumulated in the air making it hard to breathe.

I screamed when the sound of the car exploding bombarded my ears. Pieces of the car flew in the air before shattering to the ground. I got down to my knees in fear and covered my head with my arms to protect myself. I stayed in this position for what felt like hours before I grew bold enough to lift my head.

The sky was still contaminated with smoke but I could now see. I look around trying to get a good look at the damage caused.

A few feet away from me was a sheet of brown, rusty paper. My fingers shook as I grabbed the paper before running my eyes through the text.

Someone knew.

In red ink was both the date and time of when Alpha Lexis marked me.

To be continued...

Hey lovelies! I have missed you guys so much and I'm so happy to be back!
