[The Broken-hearted Girl - Chapter 9]
=Jennifer's P.O.V=
After I got upstairs I actually didn't sleep. I was awake. The whole fucking time. Wondering why the hell I had those weird feelings towards my best friend! I started noticing all about him. His personality is beautiful, his flaws are beautiful, and his voice, his laugh and smile are beautiful. Everything about him is just beautiful.
I groaned and rolled over to the other side of the bed. I shouldn't start feeling like this. I mean, I just got out of a relationship, but my mind obviously had other plans for me. I sighed and rolled onto my right side. Why is life so damn complicated?
=Luke's P.O.V=
I glanced at the watch on my phone and let out a sigh and turned my focus back at the game.
"You know, Luke, you've been sighing an awful lot since you admitted you are in love with Jen." I glanced at Calum, who was sitting beside me.
"Is that a problem? I can stop it if you want me to?" He chuckled lightly.
"I'm just saying, man, and chill." He paused the game and I stared into the air without really seeing anything, just thinking about my life. I felt a poke in my side and I glared playfully at Calum.
"Do you want to check out what Jen are doing?" My eyebrows shot up.
"You want to spy on her in your sleep, mate?" I winked at him.
"No, no! I mean... You know... I would never do that, Luke. I meant if you wanted to check out how she's doing." I smirked at him.
"I can read your thoughts, Cal, and I know you only want to spy on Jen." He glared at me and got up from the couch.
"I'm gonna see what she's up to. You can tag along if you want to, Lukey!" He yelled over his shoulder. I sighed and got up from the couch and tagged along up the stairs. We passed Ashton's room and we glanced inside and saw that he was dead asleep on his bed. Calum closed his door and I knocked softly on Jen's door.
"Come in." I opened the door and we both entered.
"How are you holding up, Jen?" Calum asked and sat down next to her on the bed. She shrugged. She glanced at Calum, but ignored me... Hm, weird...
"I wish I could just cuddle up with a big and soft teddy-bear and doze off into Lala-land, but no! My mind is so fucked up because of Sebastian." She looked at Calum and smiled softly. "Did Luke tell you that he called me?"
Calum nodded and Jen looked down at her fidging hands.
"His words are stuck in my mind. It's like my brain is on standby and is just waiting for him to come and find me... Like... I can't get any proper sleep until... “ She trailed off, obviously having trouble finding the right words. I sat down on her bed behind Calum and placed my hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently.
"We're here for you, Jennifer. We won't let him near you anymore." She had tensed when I touched her, but she didn't look at me as I spoke. What is wrong with her? She's acting so weird... Calum kept glancing between us, probably sensing the weird act from her towards me. I removed my hand from her shoulder and I could see her relax again. She didn't react to my touch like this before... She never reacted like this to me before...
I looked at Calum and mouthed to him, "Find out what is wrong with her. I'm gonna see what the others are up to...” and with that I just left.
=Jennifer's P.O.V=
I heaved a relieved sigh when Luke left the room. With these weird feelings inside me, it was difficult for me to know how to react towards him... He is my best friend, after all. I looked at Calum and smiled sheepishly. He chuckled and clapped me gently on my knee.
"He'll come around. He's just a little upset. That's all." He obviously lied. Yes, Luke is upset that I reacted like I did when he touched my shoulder. It's just not him, who'll have to come around; it's me, who'll have to come around. I sighed and looked down at my hands again.
"What's wrong, Jen?" I looked up at Calum again and chuckled softly without humour.
"What isn't wrong, Cal. My life is seriously fucked up." He shook his head at me.
"Just because bad things happened in your life, it doesn't mean it's fucked up. You just need to get up on the horse again, Jen." I snorted. Easy for him to say, it's not him who got the problems. Calum sighed when I didn't respond.
"The boys and I made a promise to each other after you left." That made me look at him with a shocked expression. A promise?
"We promised each other that as long as we're still in Sydney; one of us will always be with you no matter what. Think of us like a... A bodyguard or something like that." I nodded slowly and he continued.
"When we leave for the U.S, we'll find out if the 'protection' is still needed. When you are with the boys from One Direction you'll have them AND their bodyguards around you."
"It sounds like I'm some kind of prisoner...” He nodded.
"I know, Jen, but it is for your own safety. Anderson is unpredictable and we can't afford to take any chances, because from what Lukey told me. Anderson will kill you the next time he gets his hands on you... And we don't want to lose our friend." I smiled softly at him.
"I can live with that... I just have one question...” He nodded slowly and waited for me to continue.
"Have you ever felt strong feelings like...? Let’s say, love, towards your best friend or girl-friend?" His eyes widened and he gaped at me. I smiled sheepishly at him.
"Surprise?"
