I woke up early. I checked the time. 5 am. I quietly got up. I slipped on a sweater and left a note for Tobias so he wouldn't freak out. I went to the training room. I started training. Initiates were supposed to be coming in today. I started on knives. You never know. We might have a smart mouth kid like I was. I threw one straight down the middle.
"Best knife thrower in all of Dauntless." Zeke said. "What are you doing up so early?"
"What are you doing up so early?" I asked
"I wake up early all the time." Zeke said
"I'm just practicing."
"Or training to out beat someone. Or maybe trying to impress someone. Or maybe you are trying to get back at Four."
I threw a knife at head of the board.
"Get back at him for what?" I hissed
"I shouldn't have said that." Zeke said
"What did he do?"
"He kissed Mar."
I threw another knife at the board.
"It was a dare and he kissed her."
I saw Four come into the training room. I threw the last knife at the board and ran out. I ran to Uriah's apartment. By the time I got there, my eyes were red and puffy from crying. He opened the door and let me in. He closed the door and held me close.
"What happened?" Uriah asked
"I can't believe he would do that to me. I can't believe he would cheat on me." I whispered
"I couldn't believe it either Tris."
We walked to the net and waited for the initiates. We had 7 dauntless and 8 transfers. I had the transfers this year with Uriah. I gave the transfers a tour then went to their dorm.
"Be in the dinning hall in 5." I said
I went to the dinning hall and sat with Uriah and Zeke.
"Did you hear what she did Uri? She shattered the knife board." Zeke said
"Was this before or after you told her?" Uriah asked
"After. I fixed it but it was pretty funny." Zeke said
Four sat down next to me. I stood up and walked out. Four followed me. Uriah and Zeke followed behind him. He grabbed my arm.
"Why are you avoiding me?" He yelled
Zeke pried him off of me and Uriah stepped over to me.
"I want to know what the hell is going on here." Four asked
"You know exactly why she's avoiding you." Uriah hissed
"You remember when Tris was missing when we played dare in my apartment, when you cheated on Tris with Mar?" Zeke said
"What?" Four yelled
"I don't want to talk to you. Ever. Again." I whispered
I walked to the training room with Uriah trailing behind me. I grabbed a knife and threw it at an already shattered knife board.
"I have never seen you this mad before." Uriah said
"I can't believe he would do this to me." I whispered
"I couldn't believe it either. " Uriah said
I was about to throw another knife but I let it slip out of my hands and drop on the floor.
"Are you okay Tris?" Uriah asked
"I'm fine." I said
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I just need some space right now." I said
I sat down on the fighting mat. Uriah came and sat beside me. He pulled me into a hug.
"I know this is hard for you. I know how it feels." Uriah whispered
I pulled away from him gently. I walked to the Pit. I stood in the middle. I ran my fingers through my hair. I let out a slow breath.
"Tris!" Four yelled
He jumped down to where I was. I glared at him.
"I'm sorry. I was drunk and-"
"No. I don't want your explanation. I just want you to stay away from me."
I walked away from him. I went to the roof where the drop onto the net was. I looked over the edge. I stepped onto the ledge. I jumped. When I hit the net, I laid there for a while. Then I jumped off the net. I walked around for a while. Uriah ran over to me.
"It's late Tris."
"I know."
"You need somewhere to sleep?"
"Yeah I do." I laughed a little
We walked to Uriah's apartment. He gave me the bed and he slept on the couch. Both of us were in charge of the transfers in the morning. I fell asleep very quickly.
I woke up at 5:30. I got up and woke up Uriah. I grabbed my jacket and we walked to the transfer dorm. I slammed a wooden spoon against the rails of the stairs.
"In the Pit. 2 minutes." I said
We walked to the Pit and waited for the transfers. Once all the transfers were in the Pit we started explaining everything.
"You will be training separately from the Dauntless borns but you will be ranked together. Two stages of training. First is physical. We will give you physical challenges to push you to the breaking point. Second is mental. Again breaking point." I said
We then walked to the training room. We walked to the gun range. We have them all guns.
"First, shooting. When you get good, you can do this." I said
I loaded a gun and shot it in 3 seconds, hitting the shooting dummy in the forehead. Everyone gasped at me.
"Close your mouths pansycakes and get shooting." I hissed
After a few hours of shooting, we let them go to lunch. It was 12:30 pm. Uriah and I went to the dinning hall. We sat at a different table then normal. After lunch, we went back to the training with the transfers. We went over to the knife throwing station. When they saw the shattered knife board, the started asking a ton of questions.
"Who did that?"
"I did. I suggest you shut it." I said before throwing a knife at the shattered board
They all flinched. Except for one. She had brown hair and she was fairly tall. She had blue eyes.
"Start throwing pansycakes." I hissed
I walked over to Uriah.
"I got my eye on the brown haired one." I whispered
"You think she could be?" Uriah whispered back
"I think it's possible."
Then Four walked into the training room.
"How good are they?" He said sternly
"They are real pansycakes. Watch." I said
I picked up a knife and threw it at the center of the broken board. They all flinched.
"How are the dauntless borns?" Uriah asked
"They are good this year. I think we will have an all born top rank standing this year." Four said
I thought about how much Tobias protected me when he found out what I was. Wait, did I just call him Tobias? I haven't called him that since I found out. I think it's time to forgive him. It was a while ago and he was drunk.
"Four, can I speak to you for a minute?" I said quietly
We walked to somewhere away from the knife boards.
"I'm sorry I didn't let you explain. I should've listened to you and I'm very sorry." I whispered
"It's okay Tris." Tobias whispered back
"I forgive you Tobias. For everything. Let's just start over." I whispered
"Deal. On the chasm ledge at 8?"
"Deal."
We walked back over to the knife boards. We stopped them from throwing any more knives. We started teaching the how to fight. Four and I stepped into the ring.
"She doesn't have a fair chance against you Four. Why don't you fight Uriah?" Candor asked
"Because I can use everything he taught me to defeat him." I punched him in the throat. "Like that."
I took my stance. I watched his movements. He aimed for my head and I dodged. I punched him in the gut and backed away a little bit. He aimed for my head again but I dodged again. I punched him in the face and he blind sided me by punching me in the face. I was a little dizzy but I kept fighting. Uriah stepped in and took my place. They fought for about a minute before Tobias took Uriah out. Tobias helped Uriah up.
"That is how you fight. Now get a partner and start." I said
