I started to do what every person would do, given my situation. Panic.

I shoved all the pictures back into the envelope, cursing softly when it wouldn't go in the right way. I tried to stay in control, remembering what order the photos were sorted in.

Why do you have to be a clean freak? I thought, closing the box as I heard slow heavy footsteps tread upstairs that could only belong to my stepfather.

Once I placed it carefully back where I found it, and prayed to God that he didn't notice any disturbance, I grabbed my shirt and started for the door, thinking that I was successful.

My victory was short lived because before I could even start for the exit, the doorknob was turning.

I was too late.

Freaking out once more, my mind started reminding me of things, such as the fact that Luke stays in his room for hours. Who the hell knows when he'd leave again?

I ran, more like took a giant step, back into the very end of the closet where I was hidden by the messy piles of Jocelyn's unfolded laundry. I held my breath, debating whether or not I should just tell him I was looking for my shirt. I decided against it, however; he'd read right through me.

Of course, he had to walk into the closet. I froze, listening to the buzzing of the single light bulb illuminating the room. He scanned the room, eyes roaming onto the pile of clothes I hid behind. Luke's piercing gaze locked on mine and I nearly screamed, until I realized that it was blank, without emotion. He took the box off the platform I found it on earlier, and turned to leave.

I let out a sigh and a hard blink, letting go of my fears and anxieties. Before he turned off the lights, he hesitated. He frowned, probably wondering why it was on in the first place. Shit, I had forgotten to turn them off! Hopefully he would just assume that it was Jocelyn. He flicked them off, leaving the door slightly cracked open.

Since he had just been in the room, I came to the conclusion that he wasn't going to come back in for a while. Maybe only to put back the box. I stumbled out from under the pile and made my way close to the entrance of the door, still completely invisible due to the darkness of the closet. I looked through the crack, my curiosity overpowering my common sense. To my disappointment, he was just staring at the the lock, not deciding to open it. Then, I saw him groan in frustration, rubbing the sides of his head with one hand.

That would make the both of us.

I slouched back against the wall, so I that I could no longer see him and closed my eyes, feeling its coolness on my skin. What am I even doing here?

I sat there in the darkness, so long that I was starting to get drowsy. My eyelids were struggling to stay open. Right before I was about to pass out, I heard Luke's voice, but there was something different about the tone.

It was deeper, with a trace of what sounded like lust.

"Are you gonna be good for Daddy tonight, Angel?"
