The conversation between your fingers and someone else's skin. This is the most important discussion you can ever have. ~ Iain Thomas

                                       J o r d y n T a m e

MY REFLECTION CAPTURED my attention as I got out the shower. It's been two days since my diagnosis, and ever since then I have been paying way more attention to myself.

My green eyes were brighter than yesterday and my brown locks were dripping wet. My whole body was wet. I watch as a drop of water from my face falls down to my neck.

I gasp softly in awe as the buzzing of my phone took my attention. I walk out of the bathroom and head into my room. The name I saw on my notifications brought chills to my body. I never believed this person would ever contact me again...I was wrong.

   Talia.

Images of our friendship flickered in my mind but I couldn't help but be angry. She lied on me. She lied because of something so petty...something so low. Now she wanted to talk—About what?

I did the only thing I could do to show Talia I wasn't like others, to show Talia that at the end of the day I was loyal. I gave her the remittances I am earning from being here.

My head pounded and I took deep breaths to relax my body. The nurse had told me I had to relax. I had to focus on letting my brain heal yet I couldn't. I was surrounded by chaos.

I delete the text not even bothering to answer. The only way I was going to keep a clear mind is if I cleared the chaos. Talia was the chaos, she's been the chaos my whole life. I just didn't notice it until that evening where she had revealed who she really was.

The door to my room was knocked on causing me to turn my head toward its direction. I paused waiting for the voice of the person on the outside.

"Jordyn? It's me. Nurse Revira. I'm the one who has been treating you at the facility." The voice spoke.

I take a shaky breath before walking towards the door and opening it. The curly-haired nurse looked up at me with bright and concerned eyes. She eyed the white towel on my body before trying to get a glimpse of the inside of my room.

"Come in," My voice comes out hoarse and rough as I step to the side.

She walks in looking around before turning her focus to me. "You don't sound too well."

I shrug, "Don't worry, when I was back at the settlements this happened a lot."

That wasn't true but I didn't want her to keep asking me about it. In all honesty, I wanted to spend my day off by myself. I knew that wasn't going to be possible though.

"Okay, well, have you been taking my advice? What did you do yesterday?" She questions sitting on a chair nearby.

I stiffen as I think about the main moments of that day.

"I doubt that, Lexis."

My voice echoes in my head as I stare into space.

Nothing affected me like his voice though. The vain words of his cut me like a knife. They were imprinted in my head. They were harsh and like fire. They hurt my brain and this was chaos I was going to have to get rid of.

"One day I'm going to make you my queen."

Was it bad that I wanted to be his queen? Was it bad that I wanted to know everything and every flaw of him? Was it bad that I wanted him in ways so blissful and profane?

"Jordyn?"

The call of the nurse snapped me out of my trance and I fixated my eyes on her.  She frowns while studying my face with full focus. She shakes her head before letting out a breath.

"You're having a bad withdrawal to the medicine." She says in slight panic. She opens the purse she had set on the floor. "That's why you don't sound so good. You are even spacing out. Don't worry, after your recovery your body will not be dependent on these anymore. It's just temporary."

I watch closely as she pours the green liquid into a tube before using a small straw and mixing it in circles. She puts the straw on a napkin she pulled out of her bag before handing me the tube.

"Drink," She urges noticing my skepticism.

I eye the mixture before drinking it down. I hiss at the horrible aftertaste before handing it back to Nurse Revira.

"You should feel better. Now, have you noticed any signs of headaches? Nausea? Vomiting? Drowsiness?" She asks causing me to shrug.

I didn't want to speak. I couldn't speak and I didn't know if it was voluntarily or against my will.

"You have to talk to me about these common symptoms of brain trauma. We might be able to easily heal you but that doesn't mean it's not serious."

"I-" I struggle to speak. "I guess I wasn't really following your advice yesterday. After the appointment, I went to see Lexis." I admit.

I didn't know where I was going with this. I didn't even know why I was telling her this. It was irrelevant and none of her concern but I couldn't help but feel like this needed to be said.

"Alpha Lexis?" She questions.

I squint my eyes at her in confusion. There was only the one and only Lexis. No one shared his name. It was Rule 23: No Alpha shall name after the canaille, and no commoner shall name after an Alpha.

A majority of Alpha names have never been used before and if they have been used before it was probably from someone with similar hierarchy.

"Yes."

Nurse Revira nods as if thinking to herself. "I never said you couldn't be around the Alpha. You are his chosen girl, that would be unrealistic."

I shake my head. "When I'm around him, I'm always trying to figure him out." I breathe out causing her to narrow her eyes at me. I didn't know why I was confiding to her, but I had to stop, yet there was this small voice inside my head that was using my mouth to talk. It wanted a real voice and it wanted people to listen.

"I-I'm sorry, I-"

"No, you're fine. I'm your nurse. It's okay to talk to me."

I didn't want to talk to her though. I didn't want to confide to her though, and now that I have control over my own voice I didn't have to.

"N-No...It's nothing. I just wanted to make sure contact with the Alpha won't postpone my recovery." I tell her trying to change the subject.

She looks at me blankly before averting her eyes to the floor. "G-Good." She says stuttering a little. "Just let your brain rest for some time, and no aggressive activities. I also came with news."

I watch her closely as she picks up her purse from the floor before pulling out a piece of paper. She hands it to me before slinging her purse over her shoulder.

"It's from the council. Apparently, they are having a meeting right now, and you are now invited." She explains. "Dress very elegantly. The council is a room full of business and power."

I looked at the invitation in shock. Was I ready? One mistake and I could screw up my future in terms of relations in the pack. I was going to meet powerful people. Powerful people who are some of the controllers of the system.

The words that escaped nurse Revira's lips next brought me fear.

"It's mandatory..."

I took a deep breath as I stared at my reflection in the mirror. My wild hair was now tamed and placed into a bun while my eyes were still tired and bright. My skin glowed and blended well with my foundation. My nude lips gave a look of simplicity.

I was wearing a dress that I didn't even remember I brought. The dress was a light pink which complimented my skin tone. The area that covered my chest was see through covered with laced designs that elegantly sprawled across the torso of the dress. It was long and silky with a long slit that exposed my right leg. I was even against wearing it until Yuri negotiated with me. She had told that she had taken a glimpse of one of the council meetings and saw many wearing ball gowns and tuxedos.

"I'm not even sure if the meeting is still going on." I say searching for reasons in my head not to go. "I mean we did take some time to do all this."

Yuri chuckles at my words. "Jordyn, meetings usually last the majority of the day. It's only been 2 hours." Yuri retorts.

I sigh my mind intentionally thinking of Alpha Lexis. He wanted a queen and I hoped I replicated one in this dress. But why? Why am I trying so hard to conform to his pleasing? Did I even know what pleased him?

I didn't know what made him happy...

I have never heard him laugh...

I have never seen him enjoy a moment without a gleam of guilt.

Now that I think of it, Lexis had not texted me to give me knowledge about the invitation. He didn't even try to talk to me about it first. The last we had discussed it was yesterday, but even then I had told him I didn't think I was ready...maybe that's what I'm failing to see.

Maybe that's why he took me into the room filled crowns of past sovereigns. He wanted me to be ready. He needed me to be ready.

"Relax, by law you are not required to say anything. You can just sit there and stay in tune with the conversation." Yuri says trying to get me to calm myself. I watch as she wipes the top of my dresser with a rag before throwing her cleansing supplies away in a bin near the bathroom.

"Yuri, all my life I have been told that I will always be the second classed citizen of this world. Not anymore. I'm going to use this opportunity to speak when I have to."

Yuri smiles before bowing down playfully. "You have ambition. Shall I walk you to your destination, miss?"

"Yes, you may." I said as I followed Miss Yuri out the door.

I was about to enter a danger zone. It was danger, yet it was still an opportunity. The sweating of my hands, the beating of my heart, and the anxiety in my stomach were all obstacles.

And as we headed into the elevator I realized something...

Lexis didn't know what pleased me either.

I stood outside the double doors of the council room. It was located in an isolated part of the pack house. I was here...yet I wasn't at the same time. I wanted something to come and force me inside but nothing came. I had every excuse to leave, but I knew I couldn't use them. I had to step inside into the unknown.

"Oh my," A surprised voice says causing me to turn myself around steadily.

A woman with blazing red hair and brown eyes was staring at me. She had a heart shaped face with rosy cheeks. She was wearing an emerald cocktail dress with black heels. She looked older than me, maybe by 18 years.

"You must be Jordyn." She says walking over to me. "Pleased to meet you." She says extending her hand out.

I shake her hand hesitantly trying my best to act natural. The lady sensed my uncomfortable stance and pulled her hand away from mine.

"I'm Jezirae. You don't realize how long I have been waiting to finally meet you."

I smile awkwardly not knowing how to react. I felt exactly how I felt when Brooke had known my name without me introducing myself first.

"Nice to meet you too." I mutter out causing her to chuckle.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Shall we go in?" She suggests perkily before taking my arm and leading me into the room.

Part of me wanted to tell her to let go but it was much too late. A lady I didn't know was the push that helped me cross the door. As soon as we walked in, the discussion in the room faded and the room grew quiet.

I gasp out loud at the sight of what looked to be a few hundred council members. A large, and round table centered the large room. Seated were council members who were now all focused on me and my new companion I had just met seconds ago. They were all wearing gowns and suits and their posture was perfect.

The room was dark and looked like something clearly built by members of the union. The table had hand made symbols carved and painted on it.

This looked like the devil's den.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw my Alpha staring at me from afar.

The old lady I had remembered with fair hair stood up instantly and glared at the both of us. "Jezirae, please get seated. We were about to start a new discussion."

Jezirae turns to give me a smile before heading over to one of the few empty seats.

The woman with fair hair never breaks eye contact with me. Her grey eyes were cold and sharp. The more she kept staring the more I hurt.

"Alpha, your chosen girl has come. You decide the fate." The old woman says before sitting back down in her chair.

Alpha Lexis stands up instantly taking all my oxygen away from me with just one stance. With just one look I felt like everything and that was a scary thing to feel.

"All bow to our future queen." Lexis commands huskily causing the members present to bow. Some were hesitant and some obliged instantly.

I couldn't help but smile at the statement. Lexis wanted the words he spoke to be true, he wanted me as queen. The words I had thought were in vain were not so vain anymore. They were actual quite authentic now. There was a chance that I could be a member of the union. I could change this world with just one vote. I could bring a revolution.

"Join us," Lexis says before sitting back down.

A seat was assigned to me right next to Lexis. As I passed by the other members, I could feel their cold stares glue onto me. I sit next to Lexis, and as soon as I do, the discussion restarted.

"Next resolution," The fair-haired old lady starts. "The union is proposing a bill to all the Alphas of today's society. Lexis you are ordered to discuss with us and we'll vote. Our vote counts as one and will be sent to the union to be accumulated."

Lexis nods his head interested. I couldn't help but try to mimic Lexis' intimidating stance. He radiated power and the others saw that too.

"What's the bill about?" Lexis questions.

The lady reads the paper in front of her. "They want to pass a bill to finalize the annihilation of mates." The lady says causing gasps to echo out the room.

I could see Lexis stiffen his body and I began to worry. If Lexis was reacting like this something must be wrong.

"The tradition of mates has already been unstable. Barely any werewolves are with their mates anymore. I don't see a role for them anymore. I think they should ban mates." An old man from the council speaks up.

"You see," someone spoke up causing me to turn my head to the other side of the room. Coldley, the boy who attacked the foreign wolf that day on campus begins to speak. I assume he was the Beta of the meeting. "What's the point of mates when we have the 20? The liberation is how Alpha's get to choose who they want to reign with. Mates have caused rejections, abuse, and conflicts in the past."

I take notice as Coldley spoke, the other members in the room would stare at Lexis as if waiting for his approval.

"Correction," Jezirae speaks up. "Only our Alpha was allowed to choose who he wanted to reign with. Other Alphas had their companion pulled at random."

I looked at Lexis waiting for him to speak up. He wanted to speak up but he seemed to be analyzing the situation. Lexis was critical and calm from what I have seen. He was letting them state their arguments before finalizing his answer as an Alpha.

"I would like to add something..." I say forcing myself to speak.

The council gasps at my interruption. Lexis turns to me, but instead of a look of shock, he had a different look. His eyes were bright and he held this gleam of fascination.

"Yes, Jordyn. You may add your argument." The fair-haired woman approves.

"I believe that something drastic did happen to scare people off from their mates. I believe that mates play a lesser role in today's society, but I think banning them wouldn't be needed. What harm have they created in the last 6 months?" I tell them.

Coldley scoffs at my argument. "You know how many rejections have occurred in the last few months? A majority of mates whom are still together are in abusive relationships. Mates are disastrous." Coldley retorts causing many in the council to agree.

"What about the teachings of the moon goddess?" A young woman with raven hair spoke up. "Mates were a gift from her, and we are just going to abolish them?"

I watched silently as the conversation started to get more aggressive.

"Who is the moon goddess anyway?" Coldley asks with amusement. Scoffs and gasps were now heard throughout the room. "It seems as if people always speak of her but they never give her an actual name. Don't expect me to believe in that bullsh*t-"

"Coldley!" Lexis voice booms throughout the room causing everyone to fall silent. Lexis closes his eyes for a moment while taking a breath. He opens them up eyeing everyone in the room. "You have all made your points, but you all failed to listen to our newest voice."

People in the council turned to look at me. I looked up at Lexis in confusion, not sure where he was going with this.

"She had a good point." Lexis trails off. "And some may think I'm being biased, but that's at your own peril. You can't so easily dismiss somebody when it comes to these discussions."

"Alpha, where is your stance on this?" Someone asked.

Everyone turned to their Alpha in anticipation while waiting for his answer. Lexis' vote will accumulate with other Alphas' votes to create a decision.

"Open the hologram." Lexis orders causing a woman near a red button to press it revealing a blue translucent hologram. It hovered over the table and I couldn't help but look at it in pure amazement. Technology has become such a beautiful thing in my eyes.

The words yes or no were on the hologram and we all watched carefully as Lexis stared at the options in silence.

What he did next appalled me...

He voted yes.

After Lexis' vote, we all gathered for refreshments. Jezirae was clinging to my arm and ranting about the injustice of the council. I wasn't really paying much attention because I was staring at the attractive man by far. He was consumed in a conversation with a few council members and I desperately wanted to join.

Jezirae stops talking and trails her eyes towards my main attention. She smiles softly. "If you wanna go to him, go do so." She encourages me.

I shake my head feeling guilty by not showing interest in her speech. "No, it's not my place anyway."

Jezirae raises her eyebrows at me. "Yes, it is. You have every right to be here especially while looking like that." She says looking at my dress. "Go join the hierarchy." She pushes.

I straightening my posture before giving Jezirae a smile. I walk towards the group of talking members in front of me. Sensing me, each of them had knowledge of my presence.

The fair-haired old woman walks over to me before grabbing my arm and pulling me closer into the circle. "Jordyn, it's great to finally meet you." She says causing me to nod my head.

"Same," I say shyly glancing over at Lexis who was observing me carefully.

"Well, the elders of the council must go, but our next meeting is in a few days. We were going to discuss our rival with pack 156. As you know, where your attackers came from." The woman tells me causing my body to shiver.

As if Lexis noticed, he snakes his arm around my waist giving me warmth. "Council woman Tarah, I'm not sure if we should discuss that now. Coldley already left early because of informal conversations with other members."

Council woman Tarah chuckles. "This is formal, and we all know Coldley can be a hot head. I get it—he's mad over having to be reminded of his mate, but the final verdict was the answer he wanted. I don't understand why he is upset."

"He blames me for what happened..." Lexis mutters emotionless.

Tarah widens her eyes at Lexis before shaking her head. I did not understand what they were talking about. It was almost as if they were trying to keep the public conversation confidential. What had Lexis done to make Coldley blame him? Blame him for what?

"Lexis, what happened that night was a tragedy. Let's speak of it no more." Council woman Tarah says before giving Lexis a pat on the back and leaving with the other elders.

Lexis turns to me looking a little frustrated. "You wanna go to my room?" He whispers in my ear darkly.

"I would like that."

The dark interior of Lexis' room never failed to intimidate me. I sat in one of his leather couches watching him as he unbuttons his dress shirt exposing his toned chest.

I look away not wanting him to see me staring. "You voted for the prohibition of mates..." I trail off to start a conversation. "Why is that?"

Lexis glances at me and shrugs. "I have you. Why would I need a mate?" He questions.

"I know but do you know the influence your vote has on people's lives? They are innocent mates out there that are going to be told they cannot be together because of a recent implement in the constitution." I argue causing Lexis to sigh.

"Baby, I did what I thought was best."

"No, you did what everyone else wanted you to do." I retort.

Lexis stays quiet not answering me. I didn't expect him to. I just wanted him to hear me.

"Did you ever find your mate?" I question causing Lexis to narrow his eyes at his own reflection in the mirror. The look was directed towards me but he wouldn't look at me.

The shirtless Alpha mutters a hesitant "Y-Yes."

I raise my brows wanting to know more. "Where is she now?" I question.

Lexis clenches his fist in reaction to my question and I began to regret asking him. Something was getting to him. Something bad must have taken place since he keeps reacting to things like this. From council woman Tarah, Coldley lashing out, his sister's warning, and his intimidating reputation Lexis was hiding something big.

"Let's just say..." He mutters. "Let's just say she left me."

I nodded not wanting to push him anymore. I had knowledge of where that could lead. I look at the desk next to the chair I was sitting in. Books piled on top of each other were on top of the desk. I couldn't help but smile in glee. The Alpha loved to read.

"So is this where you get all your quotes from?" I joke causing Lexis to stare at the desk of books.

He smirks walking over to me with slow and seductive steps. "Literature is a way for me to escape. When you're an Alpha with big responsibilities sometimes you get in over your head. These books pull me out." He tells me.

There was something so undeniably sexy about his passion for reading. No wonder he was intellectual and logical most of the time. Reading helped the mind stay strong.

I look over at the table eyeing a piece of paper that had caught my eye. I grabbed it revealing a picture from Lexis and I's photo shoot days ago. I look at him skeptically causing him to scratch the back of his head.

"The pictures never got out. I didn't want them to be used for any media. The union wasn't too happy, but they have other things to worry about."

Relief took over my body at his words. I was glad that no one was going to see those photos because I wasn't proud of them. It wasn't something I would want my father seeing, nor those at the human settlements.

"Why?"

Lexis licks his lips before taking my hand and helping me up from the couch. He looked me up and down causing me to look away. Lexis takes my chin in his rough hands and makes me look into his blue eyes.

"No one can see you like that. Only me." He growled his hands now trailing down to my hips. "You're so damn beautiful, Jordyn. It's like you don't even know." He whispers causing goosebumps to form on my skin.

I loved the feeling of his attention, and I rarely got it. Moments like these meant a lot to me.

Lexis groans in pain instantly moving away from me. He was hurt. Something was hurting him.

"What's wrong?" I ask walking closer to him.

"Get away!" He yells backing away from me. The blue in his eyes were now that same orange color that I have seen before and I knew then what was going on.

I should have left but I didn't. I didn't want to leave him here to suffer this episode alone. He was in pain and I couldn't bare to see it, yet couldn't bare to walk away.

"Lexis," I call softly walking towards him. "please just tell me how I can help."

Lexis' body twitched and moved aggressively. He began to growl and it was almost as if he did not remember I was in the room. It was as if Lexis wasn't there anymore. He was losing control of himself.

Instinctively, I grabbed his large rough hands in mine trying to calm him down. He struggled for a bit before his body movements began to subside. I look into his eyes in awe to see the blue in them once again.

I didn't know how I did it, and I didn't know if I was ever going to do it again. I had just gotten lucky. Any negative outcome could have arose.

Lexis glares at me with shock before pulling his hand away from mine and examining it. I saved him. I saved myself. He looks back up at me before questioning me.

"How the hell did you do that?"

I shake my head frantically not knowing how to answer him. It all happened so quick and fast. All I had done was touch him. How the hell did I have that kind of effect on him? Lexis sighs at my silence. He runs his hands through his dark hair before walking past me and towards the door. No. I couldn't let him leave me. I didn't leave him.

"Lexis!" I call after him touching him again and this time electricity traveled up my arms as I made contact with his bare skin.

Lexis turns around and looks at me intensely. He held this remarkable gaze and for some reason I liked that. I wanted him to look at me like I was his everything.

"Only you, Jordyn. Only you." He breathes out. The words fell out of his lips swift and lightly.

The proximity of our lips was increasing and anticipation grew in my stomach. Lexis grabbed my hips pulling me so close that my chest touched his bare one. My hands touched his back wanting to feel him all over. My fingers grazed at his inked biceps. He wanted to kiss me, but he wouldn't. Something wouldn't allow him to.

Lexis pulls away from me before backing away. His lips never got close enough to cross that boundary. Lexis shakes his head before grabbing a T-shirt from his dresser and slipping it on.  I watched silently as he leaves his room with the door slamming hard.

Lexis didn't see this as a game, he saw this as survival.

                     Only you.

            To be continued...

Hello lovelies! I am back with a steamy long chapter for you guys. Thanks so much for reading. I hope this chapter allows you to get a deeper view on Lexis' personality and his role in the union. Also, what correlation does Jordyn have with Lexis that caused her to stop his wolf from having another episode? Please vote, comment, and follow.
