It was night time, which made it easier to sneak around.
We creeped through the jungle and towards the compound. Darius dropped a rope down from the compound roof and we were climbing up it. The thing is, we had to do it without waking up the sleeping raptors.
My arrow quietly rattled in my quiver as I climbed the rope. I moved as slowly as possible to avoid the noise. I eventually reached the roof to the others and we waited for Brooklynn, who was still climbing up the rope, to join us.
She turn her head to check on the sleeping raptors and doing so caused her hand to miss the rope. She slid down while screaming, which caused the raptors to wake up.
We had Darius's BRAD walk back so we could help Brooklynn up. She finally reached the roof and Darius told to his BRAD to stop walking.
"Good thing you were able to get me voice command for BRAD here," Darius told Brooklynn.
"Yeah, real good thing," Brooklynn agreed.
"Had to keep it interesting, huh Superstar?" Kenji asked as he offered Brooklynn his hand but Darius used it to help himself back up. I facepalmed at his cluelessness.
"Okay guys, come on. Who knows when Kash is going to wake up," Darius said. We nodded as we followed him into the compound and towards an elevator. "This'll take you to the Med Bay. There's a nursery next to it. He's testing the control chips on the baby dinos first thing in the morning." Everyone but Darius got in the elevator.
"What about cameras?" Brooklynn asked.
"Mr. Genius has been too busy to get the island's camera system up and running. Message me on the BRAD as soon as you get the babies out," Darius explained. "Good luck."
I have Darius a two finger salute before the elevator doors closed. We then went down towards three Med Bay. Once we reached it, it was just a giant room that lead us to other rooms. We began searching.
"Hey, guys? I think I found it," Ben called out.
We walked over to see him staring at a screen on the wall. It shows six pens but only four had a yellow dot in them.
"Looks like there's only four baby dinos in the nursery," Ben pointed out.
"No shit Sherlock," I replied. Ben gave me a look and I stuck my tongue out at him.
Ben rolled his eyes at him and slid his finger across the screen so it shows what baby dinos we were dealing with.
"Baby Brachiosaurus. Two months old. DNA extracted from Isla Sorna. It won't take me long," Ben explained. "Where are we meeting?"
"Med Bay," Brooklynn answered. "We'll load them up on a platform, and figure out which biome to take them too later."
We all nodded and broke off. I ran down one hallway to check on the fourth pen.
When I got there, I tapped the screen to see what baby dino it was. "Baryonnyx. Four weeks old. Female. DNA from Isla Nublar. Okay Chris, let's get this over with."
When the door slid open and I saw the Bary, my heart melted. Just a big red puddle on the floor. "Oh my god," I awed, covering my moth with my hands.
This Baryonyx was the cutest thing I have ever seen. She was about the size of a house cat, maybe a little bigger. She had a dusky yellow underbelly and swampy green back scales.
When she saw me, she turned and growled. Except it was probably saying, "I am furce hooman! Fear me!" Wasn't really working though.
I entered the Bary's pen and grabbed a fish from her food tray. I crouched down and cautiously held the fish out towards her. "It's okay, I'm not here to hurt you."
The Bary took a small step towards me, sniffed the fish, and quickly grabbed it. She quickly ate the fish and looked me for more.
And I gave it more.
After three fish, the Bary was full and was snuggled up on my lap. "Okay, that's it." I picked up the Bary like a cat. "I'm officially adopting you." The Bary made a small gurgling sound.
"And your name shall be Sunny," I said, booping Sunny's snout. She cooed.
"Okay, time to meet up with the others." I ran down the hall only to turn a few corners to meet the others.
Two... hybrids? Really? Again? Whatever.
Anyway, two hybrids were play fighting with each other.
"Look at them. Must be siblings," Brooklynn awed.
The two dinos kept play fighting and ramming into the walls.
"It's cute until we get caught. If we're gonna keep moving, we need to separate them," Kenji said. He and Brooklynn then moved their dino away as Sammy and Yaz did the same.
"Maybe we'll have better luck if we switch it up. Sammy and I will take Angel. You guys go to the Med Bag first. We'll give it a few then follow," Yaz explained.
"Sure, let's go," Brooklynn agreed.
"Good idea Yaz," I spoke up, making everyone jump.
"Chris, what do you have in your hands?" Yaz asked.
"A baby Baryonyx," I said proudly. I then held out Sunny. "Meet Sunny."
"You named it Sunny?" Kenji asked.
"Hey, it's a good name," I said, resting Sunny on my arm.
"We should get moving," Brooklynn said.
We nodded at each other before I started walking with Brooklynn and Kenji to the Med Bay. Sunny was asleep on my arm. When we got to the Med Bay, Brooklynn started looking through crates.
"What are you doing?" Kenji asked leading their dino, Rebel.
"We need to cover our tracks," Brooklynn answered. "We need to make it look like the dinos escaped on their own."
"How about that?" Kenji asked, pointing to a fuse box. "We could blow a fuse."
"Yeah, as long as it's the right one," Brooklynn mumbled.
I looked over to see Ben entering the room and tripping over a crate, which woke up Sunny. She squirmed and I let her down.
"Oh! She never gets tired," Ben panted as a baby Brachi came running in and knocked him to the ground. Sammy and Yaz then came in Angel.
"That's right little lady. You live your sassy behind right on up that platform," Sammy said.
Angel ignored her and ran over to Rebel and nuzzled him. When they saw the baby Brachi, they started running around with her. Sunny stayed curled around my leg, tail wrapped around my ankle.
The lights went out as Kenji broke a fuse. "There we go."
Kenji jumped out of as the Brachi and Rebel came running at him. Rebel then rammed into the fuse box, blowing more fuses.
All the lights turned off and every door opened. We all froze when we heard a low growling sound. I quickly picked up Sunny.
We all hid as a Ceratosaurs stalked out of one of the doors. We snuck around some crates while trying to stay out of the Cera's sight. I kept one hand around Sunny's snout so she wouldn't make a noise and give us away.
That didn't go for the Brachi because she wanted to play and ran out into the Cera's sight, grabbing its attention.
"Come on girl!" Ben yelled as he guided the Brachi away from the Cera. He and the Brachi managed to lose the Cera in the maze of shipping crates but Angel got its attention and now Yaz, Sammy, and Angel were running from the Cera.
I put Sunny around my shoulders, like a snake, and loaded an arrow in my bow.
"Hey! Over here you overgrown chicken!" I yelled.
The Cera turned its head towards me and snarled. I fired an arrow, which sunk into its shoulder. The Cera roared at me. Sunny made an attempted roar back.
The Cera charged at me and I moved just in time. I sent another arrow flying as it ran by and it sunk into the Cera's back.
The others took the opportunity to run down the hallway. I followed.
We the split up as the Cera chased us. Kenji, Brooklynn, and Rebel went one way while the rest of us went the other way.
We ran out of the airlock and into the jungle biome. We all panted and rested our hand on our knees.
"That was close," Sammy said.
"It always is," Yaz said.
The baby Brachi screeched before running off. "Hey! Hold on, girl!" Ben said, chasing after her. The two started playing tag.
Angel walked a few feet away before laying in a patch of grass and stretching out.
"She's safe. Thanks to you," Yaz said to Sammy.
"Thanks to us," Sammy corrected.
I glanced between the two and smirked.
I then leaned against a tree and set Sunny in my lap. She curled up into a ball and fell asleep.
"Good idea Sunny," I mumbled.
I rested my head against the tree and drifted off into sleep.
