Chapter 26 –The Royal Family

Giselle walked into her history of home lands class feeling slightly overwhelmed. She never expected Jonah to come out and reveal all these feelings she had no idea about but then again she never expected to be placed into a school where students were as gifted as her. Everything was slapping her in the face one by one but right now Jonah was the biggest surprise.

She managed to take in a breath as she took a seat and hadn’t realized that she had been going without oxygen for a while which is why she felt so light headed. Zoey was seated next to her and leaned over to her smiling. “What’s up with you? You look like you just saw a ghost.” She nearly whispered.

Giselle shook her head. “I’m fine.”

But I would have rather saw a ghost then deal with this.

Zoey sat up straight as Ms. Ambrosia walked into the room ready to start her lesson. Giselle was glad she had arrived knowing she needed anything to get her mind off of what had just happened and how she would go about the situation later. Zach quickly then joined them at the table.

Zoey spoke up as Ms. Ambrosia wrote on the board with gold chalk ‘The royal family’. “Why were you late?”

Zach shrugged. “Business.”

“We’re twins Zach, what kind of business would you be involved in that wouldn’t have anything to do with me?” Zoey was cheery as always but her tone seemed a little distant, suspicious even, of her own brother. Still Giselle noticed how her smile was still glued to her face, a permanent grin.

Giselle decided not to butt in since it didn’t involve her. Besides they wouldn’t have much time to argue since Ms. Ambrosia was at the front of the room ready teach. The students were silent as quickly as she stood in the front of the room and watched her every move.

“Good morning class.” She started. “Glad to see you are all enthusiastic about learning, I could tell by the constant chatter.”

The class let out a laugh before quieting down again.

“The royal family live in Zeptoria, the queens name is Isadora and she has been running our country for the past twenty years. At the age of twenty three she was announced her thrown after the death of her father King Theodore.”

A gasp came across the class room.

“Settle down, not to worry he passed due to old age at the age of one hundred and five, the laws of Zeptoria state that the oldest of his children then must be given the throne.” She continued. “Queen Isadora has a younger brother by the name Adonis; he is in line for the throne if anything shall happen to the queen. Right now he remains Prince Adonis Philip Theodore Zelotes.”

Giselle couldn’t help but hear girls swooning and nearly fainting because of the simple mention of his name. She didn’t know much about the royal family but she had a feeling that they had major media coverage and that everyone knew who they were. They were royal and probably every person in the world, their world that is, kept up with their social lives.

“The Royal family resides in the highest mountain of Zeptoria in a castle guarded by the most trained knights and warriors, the reason being is because they are the most important people of the land but don’t let their location fool you, they constantly come out of their homes and travel their land.”

A hand shot up instantly.

“Yes?”

“Will we ever get to visit Zeptoria?”

A smile came to Ms. Ambrosia’s face. “That I cannot tell you, maybe some day.”

“You probably wonder what the Royal family is in charge of; well they create the laws and rules passed through the Zeptorian council. The Royal family consists of seven members which is Queen Isadora, her husband King Hector, Prince Adonis, Princess Alexandra, their little sister princess Alice and several cousins –”

Zach immediately interrupted without a raise of even a finger. “But doesn’t that mean King Hector would take over the throne if Isadora, er-uhm Queen Isadora passes?”

Ms. Ambrosia gave him a warning glance to show that she didn’t like being interrupted but didn’t mind answering a good question. “No, in order to receive the title of king or queen you must have royal blood.”

“So if you are outside of the family name then you cannot run?”

“I’m afraid not, you must be some how apart of the majestic ancestry. Thus the reason why Cromin so desperately wanted to get rid of the royal family, without them there is no order, there are no laws, without the royal family there will be chaos and it would be so easy for Zeptoria to be taken over.”

The class stiffened almost as if everything had become frozen. Giselle cleared her throat before raising her hand. Ms. Ambrosia’s eyes rested on her as she smiled.

“Ah, Ms. Giselle Riley, what is it you are wondering?”

The entire class turned and stared at her as if she was royal herself, but she wasn’t. Her mom and dad just had major kick ass history that she would walk with for the rest of her life.

“Um, why doesn’t the royal family pass laws that state others besides people with royal blood can run?”

“Well, that is an amazing question that runs through many Zeptorian’s minds but nobody has had the courage to bring it up during a royal hearing due to the fact that all seven members of the family need to vote yes for a law to be passed.”

Giselle nodded allowing her to continue her lesson.

“Hearings happen in the royal ballroom where the entire Zeptoria land attend and hear new laws that will be passed and where the council allows the people to speak up, on some occasions some people do but on other occasions they simply agree due to the fact that the royal family are so charming.” Ms. Ambrosia continued. “In front of you are several books on the royal family and a book of Zeptorian laws, feel free to look through them for your remaining time in class.”

Giselle glanced at a book in front of her and took one but before opening it she glanced at Zach and Zoey who weren’t sharing a book as usual. Both of them were being extremely tense towards one another and she hadn’t picked up why.

“You’ve been acting really strange lately Zach, your lucky I can’t read your mind to find out what’s going on.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, your being paranoid.” Zach responded avoiding her gaze. “Just drop it.”

Zoey looked exasperated before turning to Giselle. “Can you believe this? Now I’m being paranoid.”

Giselle shrugged oblivious to what could be going on. Half the reason was because earlier someone had confessed their undying love so she couldn’t really keep up with a second soap opera. The other half of the reason was because she really didn’t know what was going on. “I really don’t know what’s going on but I’m sure if I did I still wouldn’t butt in.”

“Thanks Giselle, that’s very polite of you.” Zach replied earnestly, he gave Giselle a smile before his sister continued her rant.

“Fine, if you want to go about and do your own thing then so be it.”

“I haven’t forgotten about you Zoey, I’ve just been –”

Zoey put her hand up to silence him. “Save it.”

Moments later the bell had rung and Zoey was flying out of class not even bothering to wait for her brother. Zach didn’t chase after her but instead turned to Giselle looking slightly disappointed. “I’m sorry you had to witness that.”

“Its fine, I won’t think anything of it.”

“We just been on a rocky boat lately… since I’ve been doing my own thing and haven’t spent much time with her.”

Giselle nodded wondering what this had to do with her. It was rude to think it but she didn’t want to be involved in more drama then she was already in. “I’m sure you guys will go back to normal.”

Zach shrugged. “I hope so, sorry to hold you up, catch you later.”

Giselle waved as he walked away and headed to class. “Later.”

Shortly after him she was headed to class as well not sure how much drama she’d be able to stand. But there was one thing knocking over everything in her mind. Jonah had feelings for her, and she couldn’t ignore it. She had to tell him the truth and fast. Before he got carried away and thought she might have feelings in return.
