"But she seems... Nevermind."

As the woman drew nearer, my heart quickened its pace, each step bringing her closer until she stood directly in front of us. Her silvery strands of hair seemed to mirror the pale glow of the moon above, casting an ethereal light upon her.

I watched as her lips trembled and her eyes glistened with tears as if they were threatening to fall. Her gaze shifted between Jungkook and me as if searching for something lost in the depths of our souls.

But then, with a gentle sweep of her hand to wipe away the tears, she silently turned away, her footsteps leading her in the opposite direction. Jungkook and I exchanged puzzled glances, our brows furrowed in confusion as we pondered the unexpected turn of events.

"Jungkook don't just stand there. Go after her and figure out what is wrong." I urged my tone urgent yet tinged with frustration.

"Why don't you go? Afraid you'll actually have to be nice to someone for once?" He scoffed.

"You know what? I am nice to everyone, with you as an exception," I grumbled, casting a sidelong glance in his direction. With a subtle nudge, I urged him to go after her.

Jungkook let out a groan as he reluctantly propelled himself into motion. "Wait!" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with urgency as he quickened his pace to bridge the distance between us and the lady slipping away into the night.

Hurrying after them, my footsteps echoed against the pavement. As the woman turned at the sound of our voices calling out to her, a smile graced her lips-a radiant, captivating smile that illuminated the darkness of the night.

"Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but do you know us?" I managed to interject between breaths, my chest heaving with the effort of the pursuit. Amidst the rush of adrenaline, I couldn't help but scold myself for my physical shortcomings.

I really need to start working out.

Her smile widened further, her eyes crinkling at the corners as she spoke. "No," she finally murmured, her voice a gentle breeze that broke through the stillness. "But, I just felt like I knew you. Both of you."

With that, she gracefully resumed her path.

Darkness shrouded my room like a heavy cloak, pierced only by the gentle glow of the bedside lamp and the faint moonlight seeping through the curtains.

With an excited squeal, I twisted in my sheets, and rolled over the bed, my smile turning wider and wider each second I thought about those fictional characters.

Oh, to love a fictional character!

As I closed the book that had me spellbound, a wild grin adorned my face, realizing with sheer delight that it had taken precisely 377 pages for the enemies to weave their way into each other's arms, transforming their rivalry into an intoxicating love story.

Untangling myself from the cozy embrace of the sheets, I seized the book and tiptoed to my closet, where I secretly stashed away my collection of books. After all, those novels weren't exactly family-friendly material, and I preferred to keep them out of my mom's prying eyes.

As I made my way back to bed, my gaze fell upon the vase positioned by the window, its contents instantly capturing my attention. My heart fluttered with a mix of emotions-warmth from Taehyung's gesture, yet simmering anger at the memory of Jiwoo's birthday party.

Flashbacks flooded my mind as I glanced at the vase by the window, where Taehyung had presented me with these very flowers just a few hours ago.

Flashback starts

"Yena."

I heard a deep voice calling behind me as I was arguing with jungkook about how Jiwoo and her friends were too young to play that boring and cliche game of truth and dare.

I turned around, my cheeks warming with a blush as I spotted Taehyung holding two bouquets-one of red roses and the other of cheerful yellow tulips.

Before either of us could speak, Jiwoo, all of 9 years old, dashed over and wrapped her arms around Taehyung's legs, exclaiming, "What took you so long, Taehyung?"

"Look at you, calling me by my name like a big girl you are, huh?" He leaned down to Jiwoo's level, gently ruffling her hair, before stealing a quick glance in my direction. "I stopped by the florist to buy these for you." He pointed towards the bouquets, a smile playing on his lips.

He extended his arms, offering the bouquet of tulips with a warm smile. "That's for you. Happy birthday, Jiwoo," he said gently. Jiwoo's eyes lit up probably because of the yellow colour.

Her obsession with yellow needs to be studied!

I couldn't help but dart a glance at Jungkook to see his reaction as he was surrounded by Jiwoo's friends near us, I grinned a bit when I saw he was trying not to roll his eyes.

"I know, happy birthday to me too. Thanks," Jiwoo said with a smile as she swiftly snatched the bouquet from his hands. With a quick nod to her friends, she darted off, her small feet pattering eagerly as she signaled for them to follow, disappearing into another room.

Now it was just Taehyung, Jungkook, and me in the room.

As Taehyung handed me the bouquet of roses, our fingers grazed ever so slightly, sending a rush of warmth to my cheeks. At that moment, I swear I felt the entire jungle stirring in my stomach, a flurry of emotions swirling within me.

"You crossed my mind while I was picking out a bouquet for Jiwoo, so I decided to grab one for you too," Taehyung confessed with a shy smile, his gaze meeting mine briefly before he looked away.

Does he like me too?

A girl can be delusional, right? I chuckled inwardly, trying to shake off the flutter of excitement in my heart.

"Thank you, Taehyung. That's really sweet of you. I love roses," I managed to say, my voice betraying the mix of emotions swirling inside me.

"And-," Taehyung words were abruptly cut off by Jungkook's voice slicing through the air.

He stood with a casual slouch, his arms crossed over his chest in a posture of nonchalance. His lips curled into a smirk, and his eyes gleamed with a mischievous glint.

"Love roses?" he scoffed, his tone dripping with disdain. "Since when have you started acting so fake, Yena? Weren't you the one who used to call them cliché? Thought you always preferred daisies."

His mocking tone grated on my nerves, threatening to unravel the fragile composure I was desperately trying to maintain. Jungkook's ability to disrupt my moment of happiness never ceased to amaze me.

As Jungkook's words hung in the air, a heavy silence settled over the room, punctuated only by the soft rustle of the bouquet in my hand.

My fist clenched at my sides, nails digging into my palms as I shot Jungkook a withering glare, the heat of my anger burning beneath the surface.

Taehyung's expression flickered with confusion, his eyes darting between Jungkook and me, unsure of how to intervene.

"That was years ago, you know? People change," I retorted, my voice tinged with an effort to maintain composure despite the infuriating situation. I refused to let Jungkook's presence unravel me, even as his words grated on my last nerve.

Forcing a smile, directed specifically for Taehyung, I met his gaze, my eyes pleading for his understanding. A rush of relief flooded over me as I watched his lips curve into a soft smile.

"That's fine, you don't have to feel bad at all. I still have a lot to know about you," he reassured me, his tone soothing. "Also, I heard Jiwoo calling for me. I'll leave now."

And with that, he exited the room,

I turned sharply towards Jungkook, feeling the anger surge within me like a tidal wave. With determined steps, I closed the distance between us until I was standing right in front of him.

"What do you think were you doing? Huh?" I exclaimed, my voice echoing off the walls with raw intensity. Every fiber of my being was consumed by frustration and disbelief, my emotions bubbling over like a pot left unattended on a blazing fire.

"Aww, did I make you mad?" He taunted, shoving his hands into his pockets with an infuriating smirk. "I was just stating facts, don't you think?" His grin stretched wider with each word, fueling the fire of frustration within me until I felt like tearing my hair out in sheer exasperation.

"We both know you like daisies, don't you?" he whispered, leaning in closer until I could feel his hot breath brushing against my face. He tilted his head slightly, still maintaining that smug face.

I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles turned white, the urge to wipe that smirk off his face becoming almost unbearable.

In one swift motion, fueled by pent-up anger and exasperation, I shoved him in the chest. The force of my push caught him off guard, his smirk faltering as he stumbled backward, momentarily losing his balance.

But instead of falling, he regained his footing with a smirk still etched on his face, as if my outburst was nothing more than a minor inconvenience to him.

"Roses or daisies, it's irrelevant. What matters is you need to mind your own damn business! I swear, pull off one more stunt like this, and you'll regret it."

"Woah, princess, calm down. Looks like smoke's about to come out of your ears," Jungkook teased, a smirk playing on his lips as he took a step closer to me.

"SHUT THE FUCK UP," I spat, my voice laced with venom.

"Make me?" he challenged, his smirk widening.

That was it. I was done with him. Dealing with someone like him drained all my energy. He seemed to find new ways to infuriate me every single day, stoking the flames of my growing animosity towards him. Leaving the room felt like the best option to avoid further confrontation.

So I just left.

End of flashback
