"I'm on the plane now, and I have been for the past three and a half hours. Yes, yes I'm safe, dad. Don't you worry, I'll be fine. Yes, of course I'm sure I wanna do this, it's for uni, I'm determined. Alright. Love you, bye." you hung up the phone with your dad after he was constantly worrying about you moving back to Japan for university. You told him you'll be just fine since you have quite a couple friends there already.
However, whenever you thought of coming to Japan, all you could think of was your childhood best friend, Yudai, who goes by 'K'. He was beyond a best friend to you, he treated you like his daughter, took care of you so well. But then, at 18, you decided to follow your dreams and move to the UK, which meant leaving K. It was incredibly difficult to do so, but you somehow managed.
You may have lost a bit of touch, but that doesn't mean he came off your mind even once while you were away. You made a promise to not lose touch, and to say it broke your heart when you realised you don't talk nearly as much as you used to, was an understatement. You were crying for weeks, because all you wanted to do was talk to your best friend, but you didn't want to hurt your or his heart any further, even though you loved him to absolute bits.
And even now, he has no idea that you're on your way back to Japan. You don't know if you should tell him or not-
"What's on your mind, dear?" an elderly woman who was sitting next to you asked you.
"Is it that obvious?" you chuckled "You see, I have a childhood best friend who lives in Japan, but I left him when I moved to the UK for study, and we kinda lost touch, but I never stopped thinking about him, now I don't know if I should tell him that I'm coming back to Japan or not."
"How do you think he feels?"
"I don't know... but in some odd way, I get the feeling that he's feeling just like me. We promised to keep touch but, like me, as much as he wants to keep touch, he refuses to text me because he doesn't want to hurt his or my heart any further, bar the occasional vague, 2-minute conversations. And we haven't seen eachother in eight years."
"Well dear, that sounds like an unbreakable friendship if you ask me. I think you should tell him. Or don't, and surprise him. Because you'll regret it if you don't. Trust me, I've been there, you do not want to miss out on opportunities like this otherwise it will only get worse and you'll end up regretting it. The point is, take the risk or lose the chance." she said to you.
"Thank you" you smiled and immediately got your phone out.

You didn't even realise your hands were shaking out of nervousness after you sent those texts. But she was right, you are actually glad you did it.
But this is only the first step.
She then suddenly took your hands in hers in an attempt to calm you down. "relax, dear, it'll be just fine, I know it."
"But w-what if he doesn't recognise me, or what if he doesn't see me the same way anymore, what if I was wrong this whole time, what if he's replaced me, or- or what if-"
"Sshhh, you're overthinking. Relax, okay? I know for a fact it's gonna go well."
"How?" you asked her.
"I just do." she said "now go to sleep, and we'll be there before you know it." she said.
And with that, you slowly but surely drifted off to sleep.
You slept actually rather peacefully, but then you woke up, hungry, dehydrated, really needing to pee, and for some reason, thrilled. Maybe something struck in you about the new university or something. But the best part was, now there was only two hours left of the flight.
"I think he texted you back, dear" the kind elderly woman said. So you checked your phone and opened the message...

And yet again, you failed to realise you were shaking. At this point you couldn't decide whether it was excitement or nerves.
You had to double check the messages to make sure you weren't dreaming. Are you really meeting your best friend who you haven't seen in eight years? Whaaat?
Anyways, you then finally got yourself some food and drinks after literally starving, and then you just peered out the window for the remainder of the flight. You were too nervous/excited to do anything else.
Then it was like your heart was beating faster by the second as you got off the plane and in the queue to get passports checked, then waiting to get your suitcases.
You eventually got your bags and were about to leave but you saw the kind elderly lady who was sitting next to you on the plane, and you had to thank her sincerely before leaving.
"My pleasure, dear" she said, and you gave her one last smile before heading off.
"SAKURA-CHAN!" you jumped into the arms of your good friend who you also hadn't seen in eight years. You were so happy to see her, your eyes started to well up and so did hers.
You talked about how you both were doing and all that stuff as you got in the car and on the way. Once you got to your new dorm room which you shared with Sakura and two other people you didn't know, you put your stuff down and immediately texted K saying you have time to meet up since it was only 6pm. You were lucky since this girl left their uni so she obviously left the dorm too which gave you a perfect spot in it.
But your heart was pounding since you were probably about to go meet the person who you loved to pieces yet barely talked for eight years.
"Calm down y/n, it'll be fine. It'll be like you never left." Sakura comforted you.
"Thanks Sakura" you said.
"Oh, y/n, meet your new dorm mates, Fuma, and Yoshi." Sakura introduced you to a buff, mature looking guy, and a shy and cute yet fierce looking guy.
"Hi guys, I'm y/n, as you probably heard." you said and shook their hands.
You were then about to say something but you got a text and it was from K.
"I'm so sorry guys, I would talk more but I gotta go. Once again, I'm sorry, I promise we can talk when I get back." you said, getting your coat back on right away (you didn't bother taking your shoes off since you knew you'd be leaving again within a few minutes anyway).
"Is it K?" Sakura asked, and you nodded.
"Don't worry girl, you got this. You know where to go?"
"Yup" you lightly smiled.
"Okay, have fun, be safe."
"Bye guys!" and with that they all said bye back to you and you left the door with nerves rushing through your veins.
Luckily the place where K told you to meet him was only a ten minute walk from your dorm, and it was right by his old house. 'Does that mean he still lives there? No, surely not.' thoughts about him clouded your head as you made your way there which made the walk seem like two minutes rather than ten.
You took a nice deep breath before turning the corner to see the little cafe that you two always came to which was right by his house.
Your heart began to race even more as you saw a very tall, toned figure pacing around, who you could've easily made out was the one and only Koga Yudai.
You steadily approached him and when he spotted you his eyes softened.
"y/n..."
"K..."
You two akwaradly stared at eachother for a moment before your eyes began to tear up and you threw yourself into eachother's arms. You two both knew that this acting like you barely knew eachother thing would not work even for a second.
"I missed you so much" K cried out as if he was in pain after he spun you around in his arms.
The relief you felt in that moment was unmatchable.
"I'm so sorry K, I was not trying to ignore you for eight years, I just didn't want to hurt me or you any further than we already were" you managed to say while tears streamed down your face. He caressed your head and kissed the top of it.
"You don't have to apologise for a single thing y/n. That was my intention too. To say I despised not talking to you is an understatement. But I'm just glad you did what you've always dreamed of." he said while tears also poured from his eyes.
"It's so good to see you again, oh my lord. I can't believe I'm hugging you right now, it's been far too long since I've seen you" you said, crying, while also let out a laugh.
"I know" he agreed.
You two were just hugging, never letting go. You didn't care how suffocating it was, you were comfortable in K's arms and that was all that mattered.
He then pulled away from the hug and grabbed your face with his big, freezing hands, examining it with glossy eyes.
"You've grown up so much y/n/n" he sobbed and hugged you yet again.
"You haven't aged a day." you said back to him.
"You're so beautiful though, as always." he said to you while pulling away.
"And you're still handsome as ever." you said back, and you smiled at eachother.
"I want you to know that I still love you like I always have y/n/n, just because I didn't talk to you. You never once left my mind of any waking minute while you were gone." he said to you.
"You haven't either. And I still love you like I always have too. You've always been like the second father, brother and of course best friend I never knew I needed. How could I just let go of all that?" you said, your eyes still glossy.
His eyes welled up again and he hugged you to hide it. You stroked his back and he told you in the hug "please never leave again. I thought I was going to go insane in the first week you left."
"Don't say that.. and don't worry, I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon. And you better not suddenly leave either."
"I have no intentions on leaving Japan at all, so you're good." he said, looking at you with love taking over his gaze.
"Good, then we should be fine." you said with a wide smile.
"Ah, I've missed that gorgeous smile so much" he said, which automatically made him smile back, and now it was your turn to adore the smile that you longed for dearly.
"Now, let's get a nice warm hot chocolate and talk about what we're up to, shall we?" K proposed, and you walked into your favourite café and got hot chocolates, and talked for atleast three hours.
BONUS:
It's been about six months since you came back now and things have been going beyond your expectations. You're absolutely loving uni and your friends are lovely, things with K are better than ever, and you loved it.
But, today, something horrible occured that you needed to let out. And you could think of no one better to tell than K. He's literally your comfort person and he's told you millions of times if anything's bothering you than he will be a fifteen minute walk (or a phone call) away. So that's exactly what you did. You walked yourself to his place without warning, hoping dearly that he wasn't busy.
You knocked on the door and he answered, and as he saw you his face softened straight away. You didn't have to say a word for him to know something was up. He read you like a book.
"y/n/n, what's wrong?" he asked, concerned, while letting you in.
"You're not um.. busy, are you?" you asked him.
"Never for you y/n." he said as he sat down on the sofa and patted the spot next to him.
But instead of just taking the spot your arms went to hug his waist and then take the spot, finally let your tears flow as you buried your face into his neck. He hugged your shoulders, caressed your head with one hand and cooed "aigoo y/n/n~" and he patiently waited for you.
"It's okay, take your time" he said, barely in a whisper.
Once you pulled your face away he wiped the tears from your cheeks gently with his thumb. You could see on his face he was about to cry himself from seeing you cry. He hated seeing you like this.
That's how much he cares, and that's why you love him so much. That's why he literally plays three roles in your life without even trying. When your actual dad's not there - like when you're not in your hometown -, he's the father figure, when you need advice or anything like that, he's an older brother figure, and when you need someone to mess about with or just hang out with, he's a best friend. And that's without even trying. He is such a sweetheart and he's so loyal, understanding and honest that sometimes, you wonder if you give him enough back.
And that's why he's the perfect person anyone would need in their life.
If you could ever repay that lady on the plane who told you to text K, you would beyond repay her.
