First day

With the key in my hand I unlocked the door my other hand holding the carrier that held my precious Meadow.
Stepping into the apartment I felt free. A fresh new start . I put the carrier down on the kitchen counter top and went towards the balcony. Pulling the glass door open I stepped out into the chilly winter air . My breath forming clouds of mist in front of me as I stared at this view of the city . Closing my eyes I took a deep breath in
Our new beginning
In that moment my Meadow decided to cry out for me
I rushed towards to see her arms stretched out in front of her . Her crying stopped but a little pout remained on her face
" mama's here baby I'm not going anywhere " I cooed holding her and placing kisses all over her face .
I turned us around so we were facing the balcony staring out at the city where the rivers flowed and houses were made of brick in each and every color . She rested her head on my chest and I stared down at her
" everything's going to be OK baby "

Releasing a frustrated groan I laid back down on the papers that littered the wooden floors
Mr Romano had given me a week to sort a place to stay and more "appropriate " work attire
Which explains why I'm sitting on thr floor with screw and bolt packets and instruction papers that were like scrolls .
Meadow was sleeping beside me while I assembled another piece of furniture , my dinning room table . I had everything I needed from furniture to decor .This was going to be a long night .

It was currently 7:30 am and I was finally done . I wanted my home to be full of life and character like I had been before I went through the most and surveyed the room I was pretty proud of myself
I tossed my body onto the white warm comfort of my couch , turning to adjust Meadow in her carrier before I was knocked out cold from exhaustion.

I was currently left with 2 days before work started . Which is the reason why I was standing in one of the most renowned black hair salons in Italy . Well it was the only one .
I mean he gave me a black card so why not put it to good use
Walking inside I felt the incense filling the room, steam from dryers , the chatter and gossip , some annoyed customers from their hair being pulled or when the braiders talked too much inside of finish the job. And others sat and ate and only took clients after .
This was the tiniest of things but it made me miss home so much . These places were my entire childhood.
I sat by some chairs that were lined up by the wall waiting for one of the current women to become available.
It wasn't long before I was sitting in the chair . The hat on my head snatched off to reveal the braids I've had in my hair for well over a year now . With no place to stay and a baby I had no time or money for a wash day
" my goodness child you're going to need a lot of work " the middle aged black women spoke with a bit of an accent that I recognized as Nigerian.
Her hands lifted the used to be flat braids to reveal about 5 inches of new growth , dandruff and matted hair
" you know what baby?" Looking at her through the mirror I lifted my eyebrow for her to continue . She turned my chair around and made me face her
" I'm going to do your hair and I don't want you to see anything until I'm done . So that you're reminded of how truly beautiful you are " she said with a smile revealing a gold tooth

I spoke to the women , who was known to be as Ma Victoria, so much I didn't realize that she was done until she spun my chair around mid sentence
A tear welled on my eye and I covered my mouth with my hand . I had forgotten that I ever looked like this
" you are so beautiful baby and such a gem you'll be amazing "
I stood up from my chair and hugged her so tightly
" thank you " I croaked over come by emotion

It was finally my first day at work . I felt so giddy that I had my outfit laid out last night .
It was 7 : 15 and I sat at my vanity doing my makeup . It had been ages since I did this but I had to make a good impression
Picking up my outfit I quickly got dressed put on a pastel pink coat over it and looked down at the nails I got done yesterday
Feeling impressed with myself I quickly went over to my baby's room and quickly got her dressed to take her to isa's , because she agreed to look after her while I headed to work .
Smiling down at my cute marshmallow I kissed her all over her face while she wrapped her arms around my neck giggling
He was a bastard but we sure made an adorable baby
Getting all my stuff together we headed out . Into our new lifestyle.

I didn't actually realize how much isa talked but now I was 5 minutes late . On the way hear Mr Romano has sent me a message on the phone he demanded I get , to get him a cup of coffee before coming to the office .
So now I was dodging people around the streets with a cup of coffee to get to the office .
Bustling through the doors I ran to the elevator , ignoring that damn receptionist evil smirk. My leg twitched as I waited for the elevator to reach the top floor .
Once it did I raced to his office to find him focused on his computer with his eyebrows furrowed.
Placing the coffee on the table I huffed out " Good morning Mr Romano "
" will it be an occurrence for you to come this late to my office Ms Johnson?" He said eyes not leaving the computer.
" no sir I had to sort out my child's caretaker "
With a hum of dismal I turned around to exit the office when he said my name
" Ms Johnson "
" yes sir "
" get me another coffee "
" but I got it like you had asked " I said stunned
" well it's cold and I don't like the taste . Get me another one "
With a huff I was about to exit the office when he said
" when you come back there are 25 files to enter to the system so if I were you I'd make it snappy this time " he rasped
I'm pretty sure this man will drive me up the wall
