Warnings: Mentions of Self harm, suicide attempt and bad mental health
Summary: One of Alenas friends had been struggling greatly with her mental health, up to the point of self harm. One night, she gets a phone call from said friend. Natasha overhears her daughter pleading and decides to talk to her about it.
It was the middle of the night and up until 2 minutes ago, Alena had been sleeping peacefully. That changed the minute one of her closest friends, Isabella, called, crying and mumbling about wanting to end it all.
So, now the 16 year old redheads mission was to talk her out of it, praying to God she'd listen.
,,Izzy please, you don't have to do that. Video call me right now! I need you to look at me"
She pleaded, her own eyes blurry with tears. The last past months had been rough for Isabella and Alena had been listening to it all. She'd tried everything in the book for her to get healthy again, to pull her out of the dark hole she'd fallen into.
Sadly, that wasn't all too easy when she herself was doing fine. Alena felt guilty about it, since in the heat of the moment, she'd had to listen to insults being thrown her way about how she had everything she wanted.
The phone gave the signal that Isabella had hung up, cutting through the silence like a knife.
,,No, Izzy please call me back. Don't do anything stupid, please, I'm begging you"
Alena mumbled to herself, staring at her phone with tears in her eyes. She didn't know what she'd do if one of her closest friends would go through with the horrible thing she planned to do.
The 16 year old dialled the girls number, this time videocalling. She mumbled silent prayers for her to answer.
Seconds later, the blonde answered. She looked horrible, to say the least. Knees pulled up to her chest, the long blonde hair messily tied into a bun. Her cinnamon coloured eyes had lost the spark they once held and were bloodshot.
It quite literally broke Alenas heart to see her friend like this.
,,Izzy look at me"
She asked of her friend as she noticed her gaze drifting off into nothingness. This wasn't good, she knew that. She'd seen her go through that too many times and every time it got worse than before.
The blonde took a deep breath before meeting Alena's eyes.
,,Do you need me to come over? Just say something, I'll be right here"
Alena inquired, staring intensely at her screen. She couldn't forgive herself if something happened to Izzy and she could've prevented it by merely being there.
,,No, don't. I don't wanna bother you"
Isabella answered, her voice weak and broken,
,,Just let me go"
That was the point where all alarms went off in Alena's head. She knew this was serious and judging her friend's state, she knew she'd taken something.
,,Izzy, did you take a pill?"
She asked, her voice growing more concerned the longer she thought about it. This would explain the slow and slurred way the blonde spoke and the trance like staring. Isabella was on the brink of leaving this world forever.
And then she hung up the second time. That's when Alena bolted. She scrambled to get her shoes on, halfway out the door, when she saw a figure standing in the doorway out of the corner of her eye. Her mother.
Natasha had been observing quietly, thinking the young redhead was merely in the kitchen to get a snack, but when she put on her shoes and a jacket, she shouldn't help but step in.
,,It's the middle of the night, where do you think you're going?"
She asked, her brows slightly furrowed but her voice soft. Judging by her daughter's behaviour, it must be something very urgent for her to be ready in less than five minutes.
Alena whipped her head around, hand at the door handle, ready to leave.
,,I'll explain later. Please, Mama you have to trust me on that one, or I might be too late"
She explained in a speed even the best rapper would be jealous of. This was quite literally a life and death situation, one or two more pills and it was game over for Isabella. Alena couldn't let that happen.
Natasha inhaled sharply before giving a nod of approval. She trusted her child enough to do the right thing.
,,Alright, go. I want an explanation later though"
She ushered, making a handgesture to emphasise with one hand, while the other rested on her waist.
The young redhead gave a small, grateful smile before leaving the apartment, determined to save her friend.
(I might do a part two, explaining what happened in this time skip, for this one I just want to have Nats and Alenas convo so hang tight with me :))
Three hours later, Alena stepped through their apartment door, making an effort to close the door as silently as possible.
Her face displayed pure emotional emptiness. She was completely drained and exhausted.
For the last three hours, she'd talked Isabella out of ending it all, pleading, crying, screaming and physically restraining her from taking the final step.
She'd had to listen to how she didn't know what it was like and that she had everything she ever wanted and why the hell she did this for her in the first place. All of it made Alena feel incredibly guilty, because Isabella was right.
She didn't have any mental problems, she was fine.
The redhead gave a sigh before she quietly slipped into her parents' room. Her dad was out for an overnight mission, so it was just Natasha and her.
So, she lay down next to her mother, cuddling into her side. All she wanted was to talk about what happened, but then again, she was scared Izzy would get mad at her for it.
Nat opened her eyes, looking at the 16 year old girl cuddled into her. By the way she held on, she could tell there was something troubling her:
,,Что это, детка свет? (What is it, baby light)"
,,Нормально ли быть в порядке?
(Is it okay to be okay?)"
Alena mumbled, her voice muffled by the fabric of the blanket covering them both. Tasha looked at her, puzzled.
,,What do you mean? It's great for you to be okay, that's all I want for you"
The older of the two inquired, tucking a strand of hair behind her daughter's ear. She had a feeling this had something to do with Alena's late night trip into the unknown.
,,No, like, mentally. So many of my friends struggle, especially now with the blip and loss of family and all that. But I'm fine. Of course I get sad sometimes, but I'm not sad like they are, it's a different kind. My sad goes away when I talk you or dad or do something fun, but their sad is constantly with them. It makes me feel guilty to be alright"
The 16 year old explained, her baby blue eyes starting to become glossed over. She didn't know what she'd do if she ever failed to save one of her friends from leaving forever. She wouldn't be able to forgive herself.
Natasha cupped her daughter's face, an understanding expressing decorating her face:
,,Детка свет (Baby light), you're amazing. The things you do for your friends in their dark times are beyond admirable. Just don't forget to put yourself first sometimes. I know it might seem hard, but you don't have to listen to insults directed at you, just for doing okay. Дорогая девочка (Darling girl), I'm so so proud of you"
Alena listened to her mother's words, once again grateful to be able to talk to her about this sort of thing. It was moments like these that she cherished what she had with her family more than anything.
,,Thank you, Mama"
She whispered, nuzzling deeper into her Mom's embrace. Natasha gave her a kiss to the forehead, holding the 16 year old tight.
,,Anytime, Маленький свет (Little light)"
A/N: Okay this ended up being a little longer than I intended, but still, I think it turned out quite alright. herospark_518 once again gave me the idea (I've got a whole list xD), so thank you Lila :))
Anyways, let me know how you liked it and if I have to add any warnings, bc I'm gonna be honest, I'm Alena in this oneshot. I've got no idea what depression looks like and I'm the 'mentally stable' friend, so, anything inaccurate, let me know.
Other than that, have a great day/night, I'll see you around, stay amazing and I love you <33
