(Important A/N: trigger warning: Mentions of physical violence, mentions of attempted suicide)
[Hope and Pepper were sitting at the table organising something, when Hope's mind began to wander, Pepper noticed and sighed.]
Pepper Potts: Come on lets go rock climbing.
Hope Jarvis: Okay, I'll get changed.
Pepper Potts: Hope, you're fine like that.
[Hope and Pepper head to rock climbing, when people see Hope the scramble to get a closer look at the woman Tony Stark's marrying, she ignores them of course and slips on a harness, she and Pepper start rock climbing.]
Pepper Potts: When did you learn to rock climb?
"Hope and I'd climb everything" said Tony.
Hope Jarvis: Tony and I used to climb everything and anything so Howard, Maria and my parents placed in rock climbing, that's all we do growing up. Then we moved onto the actual rock climbing like in the Grand Canyon or at least where you can rock climb in the Canyon.
Pepper Potts: What aren't you telling me?
Hope Jarvis: I'm pregnant.
Tony turned to Hope with a raised eyebrow.
Hope's family and god-family screamed in delight, well the girls anyway.
[Pepper blinked in surprise.]
Pepper Potts: Uh, does Tony know?
Hope Jarvis: Nope.
Pepper Potts: You gonna tell him anytime soon cause he'll work it out.
Hope Jarvis: After the wedding.
"Well she did that" said Tony.
Pepper Potts: After? Seriously?
Hope Jarvis: Yeah.
Pepper Potts: Okay, marriage and child.
Hope Jarvis: I wanna go swimming.
Pepper Potts: Agreed.
[Hope and Pepper climb down and shove their way past the women crowding around Hope begging to give Tony up to them. Hope unlocks her door or goes to when she sees it open, she frowns and walks in, Charlotte is sitting on the bed.]
Rhodey, Hope, Pepper and Tony all glared at the blonde woman, she destroyed any chance of getting back with Hope the moment she lied to her father.
Hope Jarvis: Charlotte, what are you doing here?
Charlotte: What happened to Lottie?
"I want to kill her, she's acting so fucking innocent, when she's not" growled Tony, it was no secret he was protective of Hope.
"Tony it's fine, she got what she deserved in the end" said Hope.
Hope Jarvis: I stopped calling you that when I was sixteen, let me repeat Charlotte, what are you doing here?
Charlotte: Looking for you, if I'm honest.
Hope Jarvis: How'd you get in?
Charlotte: I stole the spare key.
"So she's a theif" said Lily.
Hope nodded, it didn't surprise her that Charlotte had become a thief, what surprised Hope was that Charlotte was getting along with her father, she didn't care why.
Hope Jarvis: I'd like you to leave.
Charlotte: Not happening, Hope.
Hope Jarvis: Fine, then I'll leave.
[Hope grabbed her swimmers and began leaving when Charlotte grabbed Hope's wrist. Hope pulled her wrist from Charlotte's grip and left. Hope wasn't paying attention to where she was walking and crashed into Rhodey who caught her hand before she fell backwards.]
James Rhodes: Hope, you okay?
Hope Jarvis: Yep.
"That's when I realised to slip you my car keys just in case" said Rhodey.
Hope smiled at her friend.
[Hope met Pepper at the pool but decided against going, she went to the bar and was tempted to order a cocktail but knew she couldn't.]
Pepper Potts: Come on we've got one practice wedding today and another in six days.
"Wait so when was the last practise wedding?" asked Jane.
"The last one was five hours before the wedding" said Hope.
Hope Jarvis: Why are we spending a week here?
Pepper Potts: Cause so far as I'm aware that's the norm.
Hope Jarvis: Well it's a stupid norm.
"It is" said Tony agreeing with his wife, neither of them wanted to spend a week at the inn, they had no choice.
[Charlotte sat herself in the seat next to Hope causing the latter to frown. When Charlotte's father walked up as well.]
Pepper Potts: What time's the practise wedding?
Hope Jarvis: 2:00 pm today so an hour, luckily no-one does practise weddings in the outfits, then we have the practise reception and dinner, reception at about 3:30 and the dinner at 6:00 onwards.
[Charlotte had written the times down on a napkin and left with her father.]
"Well that explains why she showed up." said Hope.
[Later Charlotte showed up during the practice. Tony and Rhodey frowned.]
Charlotte: Who would've thought, Hope Jarvis getting married to her best friend.
[Hope said nothing and glared, she placed a hand in her pocket and felt Rhodey's car keys.]
Hope Jarvis: I've got to go.
[Hope walked out, Rhodey glared at Charlotte.]
Charlotte: James, so sorry to hear about Carol. Tony why aren't you talking to me?
[Tony gave Charlotte a look that said 'Really?' Pepper could feel the ice cold tension and was about to speak when Charlotte beat her to it.]
Charlotte: I went to MIT with them, I'm Hope's ex girlfriend.
Tony Stark: You're also a compulsive liar, master at manipulation and a down right bitch.
Natasha was shocked, she'd never seen Tony so protective of Hope before meaning Charlotte had done something really bad.
[Hope meanwhile was driving Rhodey's car anywhere to get away from the inn, when she was two hours away she parked the car and didn't move, she didn't get out or anything she just sat in the car, looking in the reversing mirror she pulled down the part of her shirt that covered the scars her long hair couldn't, they were long lines the kind one would get from a belt. Hope traced over the scars each one a memory of what Charlotte's lying did to her.]
Lily and James looked horrified.
Lily wanted to kill Charlotte's father for what he did to Hope.
[Back at the wedding practice. Tony and Charlotte were arguing.]
Tony Stark: I'm not going to get along with you, Hope will never forgive you for lying straight to your father's face.
Charlotte: I didn't mean to lie, I wanted to say sorry.
Hope scoffed.
Tony Stark: Your father hit Hope with his belt ten times, you and your mother stood there and did nothing but Elizabeth she went and got my father, she did the clever thing she got Hope's godfather knowing there was nothing any one could do if she got Jarvis cause he'd go on a rampage, when it came to their daughter the Jarvis's would do anything to protect her. You know Hope didn't tell anyone why your father did what he did to her, she never said a word, she lost trust in my father and her father for awhile, a few months later she told me, she showed me her scars, scars that she still has to this day, Charlotte.
Hope flinched, that was a part of her past she wanted to forget, she she'd never be able to. Especially with the scars there.
Natasha was shocked, so were the other Avengers that none of them could speak they were so disgusted in Charlotte and her father.
Charlotte: It's not like we could stop him!
[Tony was getting frustrated with Charlotte and walked off to a pew, while Rhodey was glaring at Charlotte and her father, Pepper sat with Tony.]
Pepper Potts: I can't lie and say everything will be fine but Hope's been gone almost three hours now, you don't want to look for her, why?
Tony Stark: The further away from that coward and bitch she is the better.
Pepper Potts: What happened, between you all?
Tony Stark: You didn't hear anything of what I was yelling?
Pepper Potts: I tuned you and Charlotte out trying to track Hope.
"That's a very Pepper thing to do." said Hope trying to get the awful memory out of her head.
Tony Stark: Doesn't matter.
[Charlotte walked over and acted innocent. Pepper not wanting to get caught in the middle stood up, tuned them out again and tried to track down Hope.]
Charlotte: Tony I didn't know what I was supposed to do.
Tony Stark: Charlotte, Hope still wakes up screaming from the nightmares, she wakes up screaming because she thinks it still hurts, all those years ago she lived right next door to me, I heard her screams everyone did, she was in agony and still she told no-one what happened. It's because of bitches and cowards like you that Hope took an overdose of sleeping pills when our parents went out, I didn't want to go with them so I stayed home, I had a key to Ana and Edwin's house and so I decided to go see Hope, she was passed out on the floor. Hope tried to kill herself because of you and your father. She was in a coma for two weeks, you know the first thing she said to me when she woke up? 'I'm sorry' as if it was her fault.
"You tried to kill yourself?" asked Lily softly, she was horrified that that's what Charlotte's lying had caused her daughter to do.
"I did, I'm not proud of it either." said Hope a tear falling from her eyes, she wasn't in a good place back then and rather than talking about it she decided to try and end her own life, if it wasn't for Tony she would've succeded.
[To make sure he doesn't slap Charlotte, Tony leaves as well, Charlotte's shocked at what she was just told, Pepper follows Tony.]
Pepper Potts: I heard that, all of that argument.
Tony Stark: Yeah.
Pepper Potts: She never said she tried to kill herself.
James Rhodes: It was hard, for all of us, she nearly died three times while in that coma. Because of Charlotte and her father.
"We all grew up together, Rhodey lived one street over from me and Tony so as children we used to all hang out, we met Carol Danvers in high school." said Hope.
Pepper Potts: Is there a way to get her to leave?
Tony Stark: Rhodey and I know Charlotte, she may be a bitch but she's also stubborn, she won't leave without seeing Hope.
Hope chuckled at the coldness in his tone.
[Hope arrived at a farmhouse, outside on a tree was a tire. Hope got out and knocked on the door, a brunette woman answered.]
"How'd you get to Iowa from Hampton in like three hours?" asked Pepper.
"SHIELD." Hope said mysteriously.
Laura Barton: Hope, shouldn't you be in Hampton?
Hope Jarvis: I-I (sighs) Laura is Clint here?
Laura Barton: Uh, yeah.
[A young boy comes running he's no more than six years old came running in.]
Hope Jarvis: Well if it isn't Cooper Barton.
[Hope crouched down to her nephews height and hugged him, Hope closed the front door and she and Cooper walked to the couch, while Laura went to get Clint.]
Hope Jarvis: How's your mother and baby Lila?
Cooper Barton: Lila makes too much noise.
"Wait, Lila was born in what year?" Tony asked.
"Well 2010, when we got married." said Hope.
"What about Katerina?" asked Tony, referring to the last Barton child that Natasha and Clint had.
"Early 2013." said Hope.
"Were you pregnant during the battle of New York?" Tony asked.
"I was yes." said Natasha.
"So was I." said Hope
"That I already knew, and then you go and get yourself injected with something that could've blown you up." said Tony.
Lily and James shared looks.
"Not by choice." said Hope.
[Hope laughed.]
Clint Barton: Well she is a baby. Why don't you go with aunt Laura, I think Hope needs to talk to me.
[Cooper grabs his aunt's hand, Clint sits down with Hope.]
Hope Jarvis: You remember Charlotte and her father, the ones I told you about?
Clint Barton: Yeah.
Hope Jarvis: She showed up at the wedding practice and I don't know what to do.
"So how did you guys meet?" asked Tony, neither of them revealed how they knew each other, just that they did.
"So I used to solo missions, sometimes I'd get placed in a Strike Team every know and then, I formed a bond with Clint and Laura." said Hope.
[Back at the wedding practice.]
Tony Stark: We could call the cops.
Pepper Potts: No, that would reveal the location of the wedding.
Tony Stark: Well that throws that idea out the window.
James Rhodes: Window! (Tony and Pepper look at him oddly) we could throw Charlotte out the window.
"Ooh, do that" said Hope.
Tony Stark: Now there's an idea.
Pepper Potts: No, no, no, you're not throwing her out the window, however much she deserves it.
[Farmhouse]
Clint Barton: Well I can't help you there.
Hope Jarvis: Clint you're one of the deadliest people in the world, what if I got Nick involved?
"You should've assassinated Charlotte." huffed Hope.
"I stand by my refusal." said Clint.
[After some more debating, Hope finally left.]
Laura Barton: How'd she get here so fast? Iowa is 16hr and 11 minutes away from Hampton, Virginia.
Clint Barton: She's still got the SHIELD issue car, they go pretty fast and can trick the speeding camera's that they're going at the appropriate speed, oh and it's Hope.
"Well that makes sense." said Natasha.
