Returning home from school has never felt so pleasant.

That day was cloudy, the sun's rays barely penetrating through the thicket of the clouds. To my relief, it wasn't going to rain, according to what the weather forecast had predicted. Who likes to return home all drenched and muddy?

As I made my way to home, I couldn't help but feel jovial. Oh, how thankful I was for it to be Friday!

I had made meticulous plans for this weekend. My most desired flavours of chips awaited for me to get consumed. Cola was stored as well to appease my naughty taste buds.

Imagining the ambience of lying at my bed, chewing snacks and binge watching Netflix, especially when the atmosphere was so cloudy and cold made me feel goosebumps.

I'd suffered five painful school days to finally be able to relax in my bedroom. With excitation, I increased my pace of walk. Big mistake!

Within moments, I was lying face down on the ground, wincing in pain.

Tripping has been the biggest nuisance in my life. A day doesn't go by without me kissing the infectious ground a couple of times. But today, I was determined. This nuisance couldn't hinder my pace, not today!

Sprinting off, I reached home, throwing my bag aside and getting undressed.

Entering the warmth of the shower, I let myself drown in it as I washed off and bond by habit, played with myself simultaneously till the sudden relief of pleasure was experienced.

Once I was done with my 'business', I quickly put on a maroon round neck long sleeve T-shirt with a pair of jungle green shorts and hopped into my queen sized bed, taking a quick glance over the texts sent by my friends.

"Here's your favourite strawberry syrup pancake," my mom said, entering the room whilst carrying a plate that contained four of this delicacy.

I sprang out of the bed, taking the plate instantly from her.

"Looks like someone's impatient," mom chided sarcastically.

"Why wouldn't I be?" I asked cheerfully hopping back at my bed, digging into the first pancake.

"So now you ain't concerned about your lean physique?" mom asked humorously as she sat beside me.

"Oh damn!" I realized. Taking a glance at the luscious treat, I said, "Two for now, two for later."

Mom huffed as I gobbled down the first.

"All right Nico, I'll leave for Granny's." She stood up, patting my head gently. "Don't bring a disaster when I'm away for the weekend."

"I won't mommy," I replied as she approached the bedroom door.

"I'll be back by the Monday morning if granny feels better. You can invite friends home if you'd like, but no parties."

"Mom!" I exclaimed placing the partially devoured plate at the bed. "This is the millionth time you've said it since yesterday. Don't you trust me?"

"I do my baby," she said as she stepped back and pecked my temple. "Just making sure. Take care!"

As soon as I heard the entrance door shut, I jumped with glee. Oh, how badly I had been waiting for this weekend to arrive, when home alone, I could do literally anything!

Of course I did not plan on disobeying mom since factually my plans were concentrated in being alone and having fun. Little did I know that this 'fun' would not last longer than a day.

The rest of the evening flew by as I watched continuous series and had snacks. I knew well that eating them would disfigure me, but I gave little thought to it, promising myself to go at a strict diet from Monday.

Dinner were my two leftover pancakes. As night approached, rain pattered against my bedroom's glass windows, making the atmosphere spookier.

To make it more appealing, I turned off all the lights and entertained myself through a horror movie. Had I known that my life would soon become a typical example of horror movie, I wouldn't have dared watching it.

When it was about 2 a.m, I finally decided to get some much needed sleep. Hopping off the bed, I rechecked the bolts of all the windows and the entrance door of the house, making back to the bed. Within moments, I was lost into the world of the unknown.

My subconscious mind woke me at 5 a.m. It was dark outside, rain continuously pattered as I shivered slightly with the cold.

I made futile efforts to go back to sleep but my intuition forced me otherwise. To be frank, my intuition has always been stronger than the most individuals. I'm not implying that I'm connected to the paranormal or to other worlds in unprecedented ways, but I do get meaningful premonition whenever certain misfortune was about to occur.

Getting myself seated for about half an hour and still unable to drift back to sleep, I began wondering about the worst possible scenarios.

Was my mother alright? Was she in trouble? I hoped not because she did know karate hence that lessened my worries. But what if granny was in a critical condition and was about to...Or was I in danger, considering that I was home alone?

Sighning, I decided to watch some live news at my phone.

I know, I know. Watching news is very boring. And that's the whole point! I wanted to get bored to such an extent that my body gives up and falls back to sleep.

As soon as I started watching the live broadcast, a weird news flashed on the screen:
BREAKING NEWS: Humanity's existence in danger! Fictional beings and monsters from our nightmares emerging from the shadows of the Earth!

The reporter spoke aloud, "The ultimate apocalypse has dawned over the mankind! Demonic beings which used to exist only in fictious tales have surfaced to the reality!"

"Worldwide, blood sucking vampires, cannibalistic werewolves, alluring sirens, hungry and unstoppable flesh eating undead have emerged, massacring our civilisation."

"The government is trying their best to solve the issue, either by negotiation or by force. So far, it's only the sirens who have accepted to not cause any unnecessary harm. However, the vampires and werewolves are yet to be negotiated which seems impossible considering how they brutally massacred the presidents of four countries during a meeting."

"The undead however are out of control. They seem to be emerging from the graves, attacking any living being in sight. They may not be infectious, however, they work maliciously, attacking with immense rage mercilessly."

I gulped. What is this?

"The leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un, in an effort to subdue the population of the sirens, attacked with nukes into their habitat, the seas and oceans. This has resulted in a turmoil in North Korea. Estimates are that North Korea is now under the rule of the sirens."

"We cannot say what may happen next. All we can do is...AAAAAARGHHH!"

The piercing scream of the reporter startled me to the core as I saw her struggling under the force of two snarling humanoid creatures. One of them dug its unnaturally long canines into the throat of the reporter as she writhed in terror, while the other kept her pinned to the floor.

A few others paraded the studio, lunging and sucking the blood of the other humans present as the live broadcast came to an end.

I was absolutely terrified. I was left blank, with a blank mind, staring at my mobile screen. It took me a while to process everything, as I came out of my trance.

Looking outside, everything appeared peaceful. No attacks, no bloodshed, nothing. Was this true, or was it an act? How could such an unimaginable situation ever occur in real life? But my intuition said the otherwise.

I quickly contacted mom, worried if she was safe with granny. Obviously, she did not pick up the call. It was literally 5 a.m after all.

Gulping, I stood up from the bed, as I made my way to the kitchen in search of water. I dared not turn on any lights, since I did not want to attract any unwanted attention this early in the morning.

Having my fill through the glass, I went back to my bed and covered myself with the blanket.

This could not be true, could it? What if I was in a dream? Yes, that could be the perfect explanation.

Getting releived with the false comfort, my eyes started to feel heavier. And within no time, I had drifted off into sleep, unknown with the fact that a pair of glowing eyes watched me through my bedroom's window.
