Nyx's pov

I shifted from foot to foot as I waited for his response.

"My help?" he questioned incredulously.

I swallowed up my pride and answered him.

"Yes." I looked around the classroom and to Vernoica. "Let's speak somewhere else."

"Why," she squeaked, "So you can kill him to."

I slit my eyes back to her and gave her a cold glare.

"If you don't shut that big mouth of yours I'll shut it for you."

She scoffed and crossed her arms. "I'll like to see you try."

I took a deep breath to dry and calm my nerves.

It's not worth it, don't harm her, It's not worth-

"Let's go." Adonis interrupted my train of thoughts as he stood with his bag hanging off of his shoulder.

Oh, I didn't think he'll agree that easily.

I nodded at him and we walked out to field.

We were supposed to have P.E but the gym is off-limits as it's considered a crime scene so after our break we'll have a free period.

I sat on the lush and trimmed grass under a tree and looked up at Adonis.

Him cautiously doing so after.

"What did you need my help for?"

I stared at the students in the field for a while before responding.

"I think you know what for." I snarked

He gave a gentle 'hmm'. "I don't think that's the way you speak to someone who you want help from."

For a moment I almost forgot how annoying he was. Almost.

A sigh escaped my lips as I looked at him.

His eyes were closed as a small smile was plastered on his lips.

The rays of sun peaked through the leaves and shone down on his face captivatingly.

Such a pretty face wasted.

"I need you to help me catch the killer."

"And why would I do that?"

I pursed my lips "If you do help me, I'll let you have the top score again."

That seemed to catch his interest as he opened his eyes and turned his head to me.

"Then I'll have no choice but to agree." he said as he flashed me a cheshire grin showing off his stupidly perfect teeth.

He faced forward again. "Why do you want to catch them?"

"I don't want to be a murder suspect. I don't want people to think that I killed that girl." Is all I said but in reality, there was much more to it.

"And here I was thinking you wanted to be hero."

I rolled my eyes at him as I picked at the grass.

We sat in silence for a it as we just stared at beautiful scenery.

"You know," I started, "You're actually not that bad when you shut up."

"Wish I could say the same."

I sucked my teeth and got up.

I looked down at his questioning face.

"The bell is about to ring, let's go to the library."

___

I sat comfortably in a beanbag chair while Adonis sat perfectly erect with his long legs crossed.

His slender hands holding a book as his eyes scanned the words written on it behind the thin framed glasses that currently adorned his face.

His held his hair in a low ponytail with a few strands framing his face.

"This book is boring." He spoke as he flipped a page.

"Then why read it?" I asked from behind my own book.

"It's interesting."

Didn't he just say-

Actually, nevermind. I should expect this from him.

"Whatever, this isn't what we came here for." I put my own book down as I ushered him to do the same.

"This is a library. What else would we do if not to read."

Why does he have to be such a smartass.

"Don't play smart with me, we came here to speak about something."

"Oh did we?" He faked shock as he turned another page.

It's getting so hard to not smack him right now.

I snatched the book out of his hand and placed it on the shelf.

"I need you to help me track down the killer, and fast."

His lips slightly quirked to the side and his eyes glimmered at me. "Say please."

What?

I screwed my face I looked at his smug face.

"No."

"Hmm, then I guess you don't need my help. I'll just go."

My hand reached out and grabbed his arm before he could get up and walk away.

I sighed and kept my head down as I spoke. "Can you help me, please?"

"Well when you ask so nicely how can I refuse."

I rolled my eyes and took out a notebook from my bag.

"What's that for?" he questioned as he gestured to the empty notebook in my hands.

"It's for journaling our 'sessions' " I made air quotes with my fingers at the last word.

"It'll make keeping track of our clues easier." I added as I clicked on my mechanical pencil.

He nodded in understanding.

"Okay so for what we know, the killer is a male."

I wrote that down.

"He was also tall. He looked 5' something." I said before chewing on the end of my pencil.

My eyes landed on Adonis who was checking his finger nails.

"Would you mind standing for a second?" I asked.

"Yes I would mind, thank you very much." he sassed but did so eventually.

As he did I took in his height.

Adonis was tall, like scarily so.

I too got up and stooped down on the floor a small distance away from. Just as I had done that night.

"Okay." I sat back down and scribbled in my notebook. On average, he would meet Adonis around his shoulders.

Adonis too, sat back down and we brainstormed together.

___

The bell had rung and Adonis and I began packing up our stuff.

I took one last look at my notes before closing the book and shoving it in my bag.

"See you later Sinclair." he greeted as he swung his bag over his shoulder.

Our session for today was over and we had decided that for every free period and on Mondays, Wednesday and on some Fridays we'll meet up and discuss further.

"You too Maximillian." I jutted my head in his direction before zipping up my bag and also swinging it on my shoulder.

He headed out of the library and I headed to the libiran's desk to check out a few books.

I smiled as I took them from her and held them in my hands.

I sighed as I reached the double doors leading out of the library.

I maneuvered the three thick hardcovered books into one arm and pushed the door open with the other.

A small smile of victory made its way to my face as I exited the library, though that smile quickly fell as I bumped into a body, all of my and their books spilling onto the floor.
