I woke up in the morning to the sound of my phone's text tone going off repeatedly.
I groaned and grabbed it off my nightstand to see my lock screen completely covered by texts from Audrey.
My first thought was why she was up so early because she usually gets up at like noon, but my question was answered when I clicked the notifications and the first message she sent was "ALANA IM AT THE BEACH FOR THE SUNRISE W ABBY RN BUT I ALMOST FORGOT TO ASK U SO ANSWER ME ASAP PLZ BAE".
When I kept reading I found out that that night her, Sebastian, Sam, and Abigail were having their 'annual summer sleepover' at Sam's house and they wanted me to join them.
I quickly and excitedly responded saying I could go and she had already told me all the information I needed during her spam so I planned to get to Sam's around 7pm.
It was only 6:15am right now so I had the whole day to build up anticipation and anxiety about it. Great.
Thoughts filled my head like: what am I going to wear? Do I bring food or should I just bring myself? What's it like sleeping at Sam's house? Where in his house are we even going to sleep?
I quickly dismissed it all and decided to overthink the sleepover later in the day. Right then I needed to do my chores.
So per routine, I grabbed my watering can and went out to water my crops. I had a decent amount now and even a couple sprinklers, but I still had a few crops I had to water everyday.
I then went to the chicken coop and put hay in the feeding bin for my chickens named Mark, Bob, and Jack. I was planning on getting another but I don't know when I'm going to have the time- I've been so busy with wrapping up the summer season.
I collected their eggs and hung out with them for a while before going to sell what I collected.
It was about 10am so I went inside and did some organizing in my chests before heading to the Saloon for lunch.
When I got there, the place was just opening so Gus was flipping the chairs back onto the floor and wiping up some tables.
"Hey Gus! What's for lunch today?"
"Alana!" he responded with a big grin. "Our special today is our Fruit Salad if you'd like some."
I nodded and he went behind the counter to prepare it. I sat down at the bar while he did so.
A few minutes later I heard the Saloon door open and Audrey walked in.
I waved to her and her face lit up instantly.
Today she was wearing one of her classic looks of a black tank top, camo cargo pants, black boots, and lots of jewelry.
She grabbed her apron off of a hook behind the counter and tied it around her waist before coming over to say hi.
"Sooo, are you excited for the slumber party tonight?" she asked eagerly while leaning her elbows on the counter.
"Of course! Are you sure there's nothing I can bring for us all to share or something?"
"Nah, I bring food from the Saloon and Sam has a few games and stuff at his place so we're all set really."
I smiled at Gus as he handed me my salad and took a bite. It was amazing.
I chatted with Audrey for a couple hours and since it was a Wednesday it was pretty slow and Audrey only had to actually do work things a couple times while we talked.
After a while I went home to pack for later and Audrey told me she'd meet me at Sam's house around 8 because she didn't get off until 7:30.
As I walked home the questions from earlier started to resurface in my mind. I tried to ignore the anxiety over it by reassuring myself that I'd hung out with these people tons of times and I'd be fine, but for some reason it felt different form the other times we'd been together.
I got home and started packing my things. This included my pjs, toothbrush, clothes for the next day, hairbrush, and other random stuff I might need for whatever.
The time hit 6:45 so I started walking through town to Sam's house. On the way Abigail spotted me while on her walk and we walked the rest of the way together.
She knocked when we got there and almost immediately Sam opened the door with a big smile on his face.
I felt like I was gonna melt all over the floor because of it.
He let us inside and showed us to his room while apologizing for the mess even though there was barely any compared to my little farmhouse.
We put down our bags in the corner and started trying to think of things to do until the others got here.
We ended up just chilling for a while and Sam even let me try out his guitar. I was trying to figure it out but it was difficult.
When Audrey got here surprise! So did Sebastian. Convenient for them that they live so close to each other.
Audrey had her bag and Sebastian was carrying the Saloon food she brought with her.
He put it in the fridge and we all sat down in the living room to play video games.
Me, Audrey, and Abigail claimed the couch and Sam and Sebastian sat on the floor right in front of our legs.
Sam only had two controllers so him and Sebastian went first. It was a car racing game so it escalated quickly and in minutes we were laughing while they practically screamed at each other because they were neck and neck for 1st place.
When they crossed the finish line Sebastian had won and sat there with a smug smirk on his face while Sam groaned and leaned his head back with his eyes closed so it was resting on my knees.
Immediately I was a bit flustered at the unexpected contact but when Abigail laughed at his misery and said, "Suck it up Sam," and Audrey stood up to get a Coke I forced myself to recover.
I looked down at Sam and found that he already had his eyes open and he was looking at me.
I blushed and he handed me the remote.
"Your turn. See if you can beat Seb," he said somehow completely calm while he turned his head to see Audrey walking back in with her Coke.
He lifted his head up but his back stayed leaned against my shins.
I was going to die right there holy shit.
Audrey smirked at me while she sat down and I rolled my eyes at her while Sebastian started another round.
A few hours later and many lost rounds to Sebastian (Abigail and Audrey only managed to barely beat him once) we turned off the console and went to get snacks.
The kitchen was small so it was a bit cramped with five people in it but after bumping into each other a ton of times we had our snacks of things like pizza, chips, sodas, candy- pretty much anything we could have wanted to eat.
We sat down in the living room again and Abigail sprawled herself over the armchair while Sebastian sat on his floor spot from earlier and me and Sam sat on the couch.
I wondered where Audrey was but suddenly she came back and said, "Sorry had to piss," and laid on the floor next to Sebastian.
We all chuckled for a second before Abigail started to pick a movie.
"Any ideas guys?" she asked.
A series of nos rang out and she clicked on the horror genre.
Oh no.
Horror was my least favorite genre of literally anything. I got scared so easily and jump at every little thing in horror movies.
I didn't want to seem weak though so I let her put on the 2017 IT movie.
Sam must have noticed my discomfort because he looked over at me and gave me a questioning look while taking a bite of his pizza.
Instead of saying I'd rather watch something else like I probably should have, I just gave him a small smile and stole one of his chips. He chuckled and went back to looking at the TV.
The first scene in the movie was already scary. Georgie went out in the street with his paper boat and literally got killed.
IT HAD BEEN FIVE MINUTES WHAT??
When the jump scare of the clown biting off the kid's arm happened, I flinched so hard that I couldn't help but cling onto Sam's arm.
He definitely noticed but didn't do anything to stop it.
Abigail was on her phone and chowing down on her snacks and Audrey already finished so she had scooted up and laid her head on Sebastian's leg, which clearly made him nervous but he was trying to ignore it. Audrey on the other hand was already half asleep.

At that point the kids were in the sewers fighting Pennywise and the sight of the clown attacking the kids had me freaked out so I had subconsciously held onto Sam's arm with not just my hand, I was basically hugging it.
When the movie ended and the credits started Sam looked down at me.
"You okay? That wasn't too scary or anything right?"
I realized how I was gripping to him and I quickly let go and sat up.
"Yeah, yeah no I'm okay that wasn't scary at all you know I was just-"
"It's okay to be scared of murderous clowns Alana, relax," he said to interrupt my ramble.
"Sorry about your arm."
"Don't be I didn't mind. It's was kinda cute anyways."
Before I could even register what he said he quickly stood up and smacked a sleeping Abigail with a pillow and said he was going to put pjs on and we should too because it was getting late.
I watched as he walked away and turned to see Abby smirking at me.
"What?"
"WHAT DID HE DO?" she whisper yelled at me.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh come on Alana your face is so red that if he wasn't here I'd be concerned for your health."
I rolled my eyes jokingly and got up to get my bag, almost tripping over Audrey's legs as I walked away.
When I reached Sam's bedroom door I was about to knock when it swung open revealing Sam's 5'9 frame towering over me.
I blushed and backed up so he could walk out before I could even realize he was wearing some black pj pants and hadn't even put his shirt on yet.
By the time I turned around he was across the hallway and his shirt was back on like nothing happened.
He was gonna be the death of me.
I shook it off and closed the bedroom door and changed into my favorite comfy pj shorts and a T-shirt.
I came back to the living room to find Sam snapping a picture of Audrey and Sebastian. They were both passed out with her head on his lap and his hand rested lightly on her neck.
We all quietly cooed over it before Sam got the pillow again and smacked them both with it to get them up.
They jolted awake and immediately started complaining.
Once the rest of us had comfy clothes on we started to set up our places to sleep. Audrey claimed the couch while Sam brought out two queen sized air mattresses.
Once they were blown up and had sheets and pillows and stuff on them we all flopped down (after Audrey grabbed a box of cookies).
From the mattress by the TV to the couch, we laid in the order of Abigail, me, Sam, Sebastian, and Audrey on the couch.
Sam put on a small speaker with some quiet music and we all lay there talking for hours.
Audrey told a story about how when she was a kid she encountered a cockroach like bug but ten times it's normal size in the mines with her dad and it's been one of her biggest fears since.
Abigail told a story of the first time she dyed her hair purple and her parents freaked out.
Sebastian told about the time he got lost in the woods and apparently met a ghost- which didn't sound real at first but after meeting that wizard we weren't that surprised.
Sam told us about the time he broke his ankle skateboarding and got banned from doing it anywhere near the museum.
And I told tons of stories about my old city life. It made me a feel a little homesick but looking around at the comforting faces of my new friends, I wouldn't change my decision for the world.
At this point it was about 3am so we decided to turn off the music, put away the cookies, and shut up so we could sleep.
