Catra's PoV
"We know where it is....." Shadow Weaver walks into our hide out with another woman. And it took all my self-restraint to stop me from hissing at her as Adora steps next to me, brushing the ghost of her hand on my back. A comforting action that made me calm down next to her
"....We have to go to Mystacor" she says and looks to Adora and me, then behind us to our room and then back at me with a wicked knowing smile, even with the mask I knew it was there and even if there was no way she could see (AC/N) from where she's standing that look told me she knew exactly what happened to her and it made every fur in my body to bristle, leaving a panic sensation
What is she doing here?
I was about to ask that exact question when Arrow Boy interrupts me, and something in the way he glanced from Shadow Weaver and me told me he knew whatever I was about to see wouldn't end well
"Then let's talk about this and you can explain how is it that you found this information" he gestures everyone to follow him towards the table in the far end of the cave. I had to give it to him, he knew how to diffuse trouble
"C'mon, let's get (AC/N). She would want to be in the conversation" Adora places a hand on my shoulder and guides me away from the group and Shadow Weaver
"Are you sure is a good idea to let Shadow Weaver get close to her? I mean it has never end well before" I look at her as we walk towards our room
"I know but I don't want to exclude her from our decisions, she part of the team as much as you or me. Besides we'll be there to keep an eyes on Shadow Weaver. She won't hurt her" she smiles but there was doubt and worry in her eyes
"I hope you are right. I hate seeing her hurt" I sigh sadly and continue walking. I know she doesn't want to keep adding problems to (AC/N), she has enough with everything that he did and telling her that Shadow Weaver was here was just going to add to her worries
"I know...." She reaches out and takes my hand, squeezing it softly. We both want to help (AC/N) go through with her pain but we don't want to push her too much
She doesn't want to talk about it, that much is very clear, but there are moments like the one that just happened in the Fright Zone that completely breaks her and even though we are always there to help her in the moment, she closes herself off to us afterwards and starts pretending it never happened in the first place
"....Hey Love" Adora smiles softly as we enter the room and see (AC/N) rubbing her eyes and yawning. Remy and Melog cuddled at both sides of her and purring loudly, also starting to wake up
"Hi. What time is it?" She says with a low, sleepy voice
"Is still night don't worry but.." I start, stepping closer to her but Adora interrupts me
"We have a.... Situation" she chuckles nervously
"What happened? Is everyone ok?" She immediately raises from the bed and step closer to us
"Yes, they are it's just.." Adora exclaimed but (AC/N) stops her
"Then what's going on? You're scaring me" she frowns worryingly, looking from me to Adora and back to me
"Shadow Weaver is here" I sigh miserably. I don't want to bring more problems to her but we can't just exclude her out of our decisions, Adora is right, she's part of this team as much as me or her
"What?" Her eyes widen in surprise then narrow in anger and pure hatred, and I forgot how dangerous she can look when she's angry and a small part of me is thankful that she always had a soft spot for me because I realize now that I never want to be in the end of her anger
"And apparently there is a Failsafe for the Heart of Etheria. Something we could use to free the magic in the Heart before...." I hesitate and I knew she knows what I was about to say. She frowns worryingly
".....He gets to it and conveniently she, now, knows where it is" I try to inject venom in my voice when talking about her because I knew it would keep her from thinking about the bastard
"Perfect" she hissed furiously and sarcastically, rubbing the bridge of her nose
"You don't have to come.." Adora steps in front of her and gently takes her free hand and I saw (AC/N) visible relax at her touch but then she looks up at Adora with determination
"Oh, I'll come. That bitch doesn't get to come here and throw that bomb like it's nothing. Besides we need to make sure she's actually telling the truth. For all we know she could be lying" she sighs tiredly and angry and I knew she would probably killed Shadow Weaver if she so much as make a wrong move
"Alright, then c'mon" I smile at my thought. Honestly I would love nothing more than to see that and by the smirk she gives me right now I know she knew exactly what I was thinking
"So, wait, hold on. Where have you two been this whole time again?" Arrow Boy asks Shadow Weaver and the other woman, that apparently is Sparkles aunt, as we walk towards the table. Adora and I keeping (AC/N) between us and away from Shadow Weaver, just like Remy and Melog, who stand behind her as guard dogs.... Cats
"You four look like you're going to war" she leans to me and chuckles amusingly as she noticed our position and knew what we were doing
"I'm not taking any chances with her, not when your safety is involve" I didn't even realize I said it out loud until I saw the softness in (AC/N)'s eyes as she looks at me, and the gentle smile that looked so bright against her slightly blushed cheeks
"While you were traipsing around in space, some of us have been working to stop the Heart of Etheria from falling into Prime's hands....." Shadow Weaver says with a poisonous voice that made (AC/N) roll her eyes annoyed and I think I might've joined her because as Adora looks at us she tries to hold back her chuckle
".....And we discovered the same thing you did. Rumors of a Failsafe that will break the restraints the First Ones built and set the stolen magic free" of course it will. Why am I not surprised she's the one subjecting this
"Are you kidding? After everything that happened last time, you're still going after the Heart of Etheria? And you're helping her?" Sparkles frowns angrily as she looks from Shadow Weaver and her aunt
"We're trying to free the magic for all of Etheria so we can be strong enough to fight Prime. I'm doing this for your father and for you. Shadow Weaver is the lesser of two evils" her aunt holds her shoulders with worry and love
"At least you admit she's evil" I mumble furiously. Melog agreeing with me
"You're one to talk, aren't you?" Shadow Weaver mocks me and I swear (AC/N) was about to step towards her when Adora holds both our shoulders and reluctantly we calm down
"Tell us what you know about the Failsafe. What makes you think it's in Mystacor?" Adora looks back at Shadow Weaver with a cold look
"As any good sorcerer knows, Mystacor was built on the ruins of an ancient First Ones citadel. And beneath Mystacor.." she starts but Castapella interrupts her
"Ooh, ooh. Can I tell this part?" She asks excited
"Go ahead"
"Beneath Mystacor, there are many secret tunnels and rooms, forgotten and sealed off. No one has been able to access them in centuries, but there are whispers of what they contain.." she start to tell the story but Shadow Weaver interrupts her
"An artifact known as the Crystal of Arxia, hidden there by a group of traitorous First Ones" she simply says
"You said I could do it!" Castapella gasps offended
"You were taking too long"
"Arxia. That must be the outpost that Mara's rebels were talking about! The Failsafe might be underneath Mystacor!" Arrow Boy thinks out loud and looks at us
"Reaching it won't be easy. But I have spent my whole life studying the secrets of Mystacor. I can get us in" Shadow Weaver says with too much confidence and it made me frown in suspicion, looking at (AC/N) I could tell she was wondering the same
"If you figured it out on your own, why come back here? Why do you need us at all?" Adora asks coldly
"Simple, she wants power and she wants us to get it for her. She manipulating us all over again" (AC/N) hissed angrily as she crosses her arms but Shadow Weaver ignores her completely as she walk towards Adora
"Because Mystacor is controlled by Micah, who, you may recall, is controlled by Horde Prime....." She tries to manipulate her just like before, just like everytime we were in the Fright Zone and she tried to turn Adora into whatever she wanted her to be, it sicken me
"....You have allowed Prime to take too much ground. If he seizes the Heart, it will all be over. There is no more time for half measures, Adora. You must act now" She steps in front of her and takes her shoulders in a mocking caring way, just like when we were kids
"It's the only lead we have. We have to try. It'll have to be a stealth mission" Adora sighs and agrees. She can't be serious. Shadow Weaver nods proudly and squeezed Adora's shoulder
"Get your hands off her" (AC/N) slaps the hand away from Adora and steps between them with a death glare but Shadow Weaver only seems to smile wickedly at that
"New haircut?" she reached towards and tugs a string of hair behind her ear and then faster than any of us could do anything to stop her, she takes (AC/N)'s face, placing both hand at either side and then mumbles something, like a spell. Adora and I were about to push her away from (AC/N) when she snaps out of whatever Shadow Weaver did and then hardly pushes herself away from her, tears running down her furious eyes but she was shaking in fear
"Try that again... I fucking dare you" she hissed furiously, pointing a finger at her and Adora and I were immediately at her side, checking for any physical wound. Remy and Melog already in front of Shadow Weaver, growling furiously
"He really broke you, didn't he?" I swear I could see the smug in Shadow Weaver's face. The room was deadly quite as everyone else were tensed and nervous, all of them ready to push Shadow Weaver away if she tried to hurt their friend again
"Keep your mouth shut or I'll.." (AC/N) tries to sound strong and commanding but I heard the fear rolling down her voice
"...You'll what? Kill me.... You don't even have you powers anymore. And you're to much of a coward to take someone's life" she mocks amused and smiles proudly
"That's enough!...." Adora shouts furiously at Shadow Weaver before turning to (AC/N)
"....(AC/N)?!" Adora whispers, reaching out to take (AC/N)'s hand. She was trembling with rage
"Face it (YF/N)..... He wrecked you" Shadow Weaver leans to her and whispers. Remy and Melog growling louder and bite the space near Shadow Weaver, warning her to not step closer but the damage was already done, (AC/N)'s expression was full with pain and fear
"Stay away from me" (AC/N) takes a step back and then walks away. Her voice low and with the same tone of submission as back on the ship and it infuriated me to no end
"Petty... She can't accept the truth" Shadow Weaver fakes worry, looking towards where (AC/N) left and it made me snap
"Stay away from her. You're not hurting her again" I hissed furiously at Shadow Weaver and only Adora's hand at my wrist stop me from using my claws to ripped out her eyes from her face
"Aww, you really care about her. It's adorable how you think you actually got her back" she laughs wickedly
"What do you mean?" Adora frown worryingly and angry as she steps closer to Shadow Weaver
"Well it's simple really. The (YF/N) You knew... She's gone.... He killed her. The girl you saved, she is nothing more than a useless and scared little human... A broken little cub" she mocks amused and I unconsciously create a blast with (AC/N)'s powers and throw it at her feet in warning, making her jump back startled. I walk away too and make my way to find Cub
Shadow Weaver is wrong, he didn't kill her. She's here. She's afraid and trying to process whatever he did but she's still there, my Cub is still there, I've seen her and I will make sure to get rid off that monster so she could live in a world where she doesn't have to worry about him. Shadow Weaver doesn't know anything, she doesn't know her like I do, like Adora does, we'll find a why to help her
She won't manipulate us again, we know better now, or at least I thought Adora knew better. How can she just follow that stupid plan, just like that, like Shadow Weaver isn't planning something under it. I'm sure she's hiding something and I thought Adora knew better by now. After everything she's done to us, to (AC/N). How can she follow her?
"Carta stop!" someone shouts out in front of me, bringing me back to reality when I noticed I was a step away from crashing against a tree in the forest outside the hideout
"What?.." I didn't react fast enough and stumbled against it, hitting my forehead and falling to the ground
"Didn't you hear me call you name?" The person who warned me, (AC/N), was kneeling in front of me holding back her chuckles and suddenly I was embarrassed that she caught me hitting my face with a tree
"No, I was..... Thinking" I look away, willing my cheeks to stop burning so much
"Are you alright?" She chuckles gently and reaches her hand out to help me up
"Yeah I'm fine. My ego though.." I smile embarrassingly which caused her to laugh amusingly, and that laugh was so sweet and beautiful that if I could play a memory repeatedly in my head for the rest of myself it would be this, it would be her and that thought alone terrified me
"Good thing nobody saw that. It would be a shame if somebody told them" she smiles mockingly, giving me a playful wicked smile
"Ohh, blackmailing me now Cub?...." I raise my eyebrows surprised and teasingly, she only shrugs her shoulders, faking indifference but couldn't hide the amused smile from her face
".....How very bad of you. I'm definitely having some influence in you" I try to tackle her to the ground but she was fast so we end up sparring till I saw an opening and using my tail to distract her by hitting her in the face I bring her to the ground
"Hey! No using cat features. That's cheating" she pushes me away gently by my shoulder
"Not it isn't" I laugh with her
"It totally is" she contradicts, chuckling a little more
"Sure Cub. Whatever helps you deal with the fact that I won...." I wink at her and she rolls her eyes amusingly and smiles softly. After some second of just sitting on the ground and looking at the forest she lets her head fall on my shoulder and it took everything not to purr
".....Hey, she's wrong. What Shadow Weaver said, she's wrong about you. She was trying to get under your skin and manipulate you, that's what she does. It's what she's always done" I whisper lowly, not sure if she was ready to talk about this but she needed to know
"I know, I....." She hesitates as she sits back and keeps her eyes towards the forest then sighs painfully
"....He didn't break me Carta, yes! I'm terrified of him and yes! I froze when I saw him in the Fright Zone but I'm...... Trying to deal with it. I'm not broken" she takes her knees to her chest and made herself smaller and it broke my heart. I immediately move in front of her and gently place my palm over her knees
"I know. (AC/N) look at me, none of us think that, not the princesses, not your best bud squad, not Adora, not me. We know you're afraid and we are here to help in any way you want us to. Shadow Weaver doesn't know you like we do so don't let her get in your head" she looks at me with gentle innocent surprised before flinching awkwardly
"Figuratively or literally? Because she just did the second" she looks at me with a frown
"She?.... She got into your head?" My eyes widen and if it wasn't that I don't want to leave her here alone I would go back inside and kill her with my bare claws
"And brought back the memories of.... My time on his ship" she looks away and trembles with horror
"I'm sorry Cub" I sigh miserably. It didn't matter how bad I wanted to help help or what I could do, that pain he inflicted on her wouldn't go away just because we're here for her. That is something only she could find a way to deal with, we could only be here to support her through it
"It's not your fault Catra. You're right she was trying to get under my skin and I fell for it. I'm not letting my guard down with her again" she turns to me and smiles softly, not entirely real but it wasn't entirely fake either
"Well if she does hurt you again I've got a couple of creative ideas about how I could use your powers against her" I smile wickedly and she laughs
"Ohh please do, I'm not stopping you Kitty" she bumps her shoulder with mine
"Unless you want them back? There is a sweet satisfaction in getting revenge" I create a small ball in my hand
"What? Don't want to be a princess anymore?" Ohh she knew how much I hated that, and I know she's teasing me with it because I used to teased her with this too
"I'm not a princess" I say with a whine
"I know, I know, I'm just teasing" she laughs as she raises her hands in surrender
"How do I even return your powers? I don't even know how you did it" I think out loud and she thinks for a while
"Me neither, I just.... Wanted to pass my powers to you and then I thought that a source of contact would be enough to guide it to you" she shrugs her shoulders
"Yeah that makes no sense. Are all princess stuff this complicated?" I sigh tiredly and lay down on the grass
"More or less. Sometimes they are quite simple" she lays down with me
"Carta? (AC/N)?" Adora's voice came from the opening of the cave
"Here Adora" (AC/N) calls for her as she stands and then helps me up too
"Hey....." Adora smiles softly at us with the innocent beautiful smile she always gives us
"....(AC/N) about Shadow Weaver, I'm sorry I let her get close enough to hurt you. She wrong about you.." she frowns as she steps closer to her and taking one of her hands
"Adora, I know. I'm ok. A little startled but I'll be fine. I might not be 100% myself but I'm getting there. I won't stop till I am" (AC/N) squeezed her hand before embracing Adora in a warm hug
"That's my girl....." Adora kisses her on the head before pulling away and looking at me
".....Catra. Are you coming with us to Mystacor?" She frowns worryingly and with hope
"Why would I do that? Seems like you and Shadow Weaver have it handled......" I couldn't help myself, I had to say it. (AC/N) and Adora share concerned looks and I just look away
".....After everything she's done to us, you're really going to follow her?" I sigh defeated and look back at her
"I don't like it either, but this is the only plan we have. The Failsafe could finally save Etheria" Adora explains
"Or it could be a trap to free the magic just for her to take it for herself. I have to be honest, I' don't like this either Adora" (AC/N) sighs painfully as she looks back towards the cave
"Shadow Weaver hurt us. I haven't forgotten that, nor will I ever forgive her. But Prime is hurting so many more people. I need to stop him" and I knew she was right, I hated it
"I know, I know. You have to go save the world. Spare me the speech" I roll my eyes and cross my arms
"Hey, she can't do anything to us anymore. Please, come. We..." She hesitates before looking towards (AC/N) and she giving her a small encouraging nod
"....I could really use your help" I looks back at me with those mesmerizing hopeful eyes and some part of me wanted nothing but to give her everything she asked for
"Fine. But I'm only doing this to make sure Shadow Weaver doesn't try anything. Not because I like you" I look away and fake annoyance but by the look on these dummies faces they didn't bay it at all
No One's PoV
After hours of careful planing Queen Glimmer teleports the team to the gardens of Mystacor. It was night and looked like it was completely abandoned except for the few chipped magicians and sorcerers walking around the castle like guards, luckily the team had two extraterrestrial magical felines with the power of camouflage to help them get inside the castle undetected
Inside it was even quieter than the outside and the atmosphere felt off, as if a very powerful being was here but their magic was corrupted. At this Shadow Weaver, who was leading the team, stops in the middle of the hallway and raises her hand to stop the others and to quiet them down. Looking ahead at the end of the hallway where another corridor connects with it when Micah, the former king of Bright Moon and long lost presumed dead father of Glimmer, stops in the middle of the hallway and looks towards our friends, frowning suspiciously
The young Queen gasps lowly, looking at her father for the first time since she was a little girl, she wanted to go and get him, to free him from the chip, the same way they did with her human friend and her princess ally, but she couldn't. It didn't matter how desperately she wanted to, she had a mission, they came here to find something that would stop the monster who hurt her planet, so she would have to hope that they managed to win in the end because if they don't she would lose everything
Micah takes another look around the hallway, unknowingly looking right at his daughter, and walks away. The team breathes out a low relief sigh before continuing through the castle towards another room
"No sorcerers here. Looks like we're.." Catra peers inside before looking back at the group and, without looking back, stepping inside just as a young chipped sorcerer steps in the room from the other side
"Carta wait.." (Y/N) tried to reach for her but Shadow Weaver beat her to it
"Keep your voice down" she takes her and pulls her to her, startling the feline
"Don't touch me!" Catra screams furiously and pushes herself away from the evil witch, her feline companion growing angrily at her too and sadly getting the attention of the sorcerer. She cast a spell and throws it at her but her human was there and pushes her away from the blast and hide with her behind a pillar
"For the Honor of Grayskull!" Adora steps in front of everyone and raises her arms to summon the magical warrior but nothing happened. The sorcerer draws another spell and throws it to her but (Y/N) grabs her arms and pulls her to where she is hiding with Catra. Castapella steps fowards and stops the chipped sorcerer with a spell
"We have to hurry!" Shadow Weaver says with an annoyed tone as she just walks away into another hallway to take them deeper into the castle
"Are you ok?" (Y/N) steps away from the pillar they were hiding and looks back at them
"We are, and you?" Catra steps next to her. Caressing Remy's and Melog's head. Her friend nods reassuringly before turning to her girlfriend
"Adora what was.." she start but Adora stops her
"I don't know, I can't feel her anymore. What if.." she frowns nervously and with fear in her voice but her girl knew her too well and knew where she was going with this
"Hey, it's alright. She's there. She's right here...." She whispers gently, taking Adora's hand in hers and placing one of them on her chest, right on her heart
"....You just have to relearn how to call for her" she smiles softly and with a certainty that made Adora's chest soften with love
"You're right" she smiles gratefully which made (Y/N) smiles brightly
"Of course I am. I'm always right" she winks at her and then place her elbow over Catra's shoulder, causing her to chuckle
"Guys" Glimmer calls for them lowly but was interrupted by the witch
"Hurry! We don't have time for whatever this is" she growls with annoyance and poison in her words, which cause (Y/N) to roll her eyes annoyed and then start mimicking her words with a mocking tone. Adora and Catra trying their best not to burst into laughter
After walking from hallway to hallway they stopped in the sorcerer's Hall, where all the status of all the previous sorcerer were located
"We're here. Follow my lead" Shadow Weaver stops in front of a wall and then performs a spell to open the wall itself and steps inside without waiting for anyone
"Would a please kill you?" Castapella hissed annoyed as she follows her inside with the others
Catra's PoV
After walking inside the wall it closed behind us, leaving us in almost total darkness. I felt (AC/N) step closer to me, reaching her hand to mine and wraps two of her fingers with two of mine. It startled me enough that I almost hissed and stepped away from her, but then I wrapped my fingers tighter around hers. I knew she could tell I was on edge. I didn't like how Shadow Weaver just forced me to her side, it..... It brought awful memories I wish I could forget forever
I hate how easy it is for her to get under my skin like this. She always knew what to say or do to make me feel worthless and useless. Especially when she compered me with Adora, I was never good enough in her eyes. Don't get me wrong, I love Adora. It might've taken me a very long while to finally admit it to myself but I do, I adore her with everything I am. I never wanted to be better than her, all I've ever wanted was for Adora to know, that despise Shadow Weaver words, I was worth it, that I could be.... That I was enough for her, for us
Shadow Weaver always tried to break us apart. She hated to see how much we cared about each other and how close we were, and she always took it out on me. I might've grown up now, I might be old enough to defend myself against her and pretend I don't care about what she did in the past, but it only took one hold from her, one touch, and I was that terrified little kitten wondering what she did wrong to be treated like that. Wishing someone would just love her for who she was, like Adora did
"Hey, are you..?" I flinch away from the touch on my arm. Immediately thinking it was Shadow Weaver but it was Adora so I force my lungs to breathe slowly and look forward. At some point I guess Sparkles created a light ball and send it to the ceiling, illuminating all around us
"Catra?" (AC/N) whisper concerned next to me, brushing her thumb over the finger she's holding and only now I realized they were looking at me with worry frowns
"I'm fine" I answer. Forcing my body to calm down and forget about Shadow Weaver but I don't think I did a good job
"Catra, it'll be okay. Trust me" Adora takes my other hand and squeezed it reassuringly, smiling softly at me. So much love and concerned in her eyes and I have no idea how, after all these years and everything I've done, she can still look at me with the same adoration dummy face she looked at me when we were kids
"There's no time to waste. News of our presence will have reached the others by now after that...disturbance" Shadow Weaver appeared in front of us with a scold on her face. And the three of us hissed annoyed
"Stick to only talking when someone talks to you, would you" (AC/N) scolds back and walks forward to the group, bumping her shoulder against Shadow Weaver, earning a glare from her
"Come on. We have to keep moving" Adora says before Shadow Weaver could say anything to (AC/N). She takes my hand and walks forward, taking me with her, but even then I didn't miss the furious glare Shadow Weaver sends my way. She can go fuck herself, I don't care, not when I'm with them
"What is all of this?" Arrow Boy touches the wall with paintings of people, they told a story
"We're on the right path. The Crystal of Arxia was rumored to be the key to reaching deep magic within Etheria. Many have tried, and failed, to find it. But those who hungered for more power have long sought other ways to obtain the deep magic...with disastrous results" Castapella explains before glaring at Shadow Weaver, who was now at the front of the group. Too close to (AC/N)
"The Spell of Obtainment was a mistake, one for which I've paid the price. I don't see why you keep bringing it up" Shadow Weaver says as if it is nothing
"Sadly the price wasn't your useless life" I hear (AC/N) mumble as she keeps walking. And I could've sworn Shadow Weaver roll her eyes
"You roped my brother into your twisted dark magic when he was only a child. You could've killed him" Castapella accused her with anger
"It would've worked had he not broken the connection. Micah was an exceptional sorcerer, even then. It's a shame it didn't run in the family" Shadow Weaver mocks before turning to continue to walk. The other stop to look a the drawings but I didn't like the fact that (AC/N) was ahead and now Shadow Weaver was walking to her so I left everyone at the mural and follow the witch
"It is the only way. You must do this" I hear Shadow Weaver insist as I get closer. Remy and Melog camouflaging us as we round the corner
"And why would I ever trust your meaningless word on this? You've done nothing but hurt the people I love. You're a liar and a manipulate bitch. Go annoy someone else" (AC/N) hissed with poison before turning to walk away but Shadow Weaver takes her arm forcedly, turning her to her again. Making (AC/N) hissed and glare at her
"You might not trust me but you know I'm right about this. You know this is the right choice. The only choice. It's your destiny" Shadow Weaver hardly squeezed her arm and I immediately run to them
"Get. Your. Hadn't. Of. Me" she growls furiously. Reaching at her back where her new staff was
"(YF/N).." Shadow Weaver start but I step between them, Remy and Melog making us visible again
"You heard her. Let her go...." I place my hand gently up where Shadow Weaver was grabbing her while Remy and Melog growl in warning, furious and bigger as they see she wasn't letting go. Finally she scolds annoyed, let's go of (AC/N)'s arm and walks away
".....are you ok?" I ask lowly, looking back at my Cub, seeing the pale expression she had on her face
"I'm ok" she mumbles nervous as she follows Shadow Weaver with her eyes
"(AC/.." I start, knowing damn well she wasn't ok but Glimmer interrupts me
