S.P. POV:
You ran out to the ship and quickly got on. You ran into an old man. "Watch where your going kid!" He replied. "Sorry about that." You said. "It's alright. Welcome aboard I'm the Captain of this ship." The old man said. "Nice to meet you, Cap." You said with a smile. The Captain took a moment to look at you and you quirked an eyebrow in confusion. "I recognize you from somewhere." he said. "Are you sure? You must be talking about someone else." you said throwing your hands up. "Hmm. Maybe yer right." He said. "See you later, Cap!" You said walking away as fast as you could.
You whipped your head back to look at him and then forward again "phew, that was a close one. If he figured out who I was, I would have been so embarrassed!" You thought pulling the scythe keychain out of your pocket.
You looked down at the small keychain taht your dad gave you as you walked to the lower cabins. "Why did he give my this of all things?" You thought.
Suddenly you heard a thump. "Hmm?" You hummed. You looked down at the ground and saw a blonde girl on the floor. "Shit! I'm so sorry, that was an accident!" You said helping her up. Looking into her eyes you couldn't help but think, "Woah, she's gorgeous." Seeing her reminded you of that one song.
"Oh, then I saw her face, now I'm a believer"
"It's alright, really." She said with a smile. "No, your a really pretty girl and I-" you heard a chuckle before you could finish your sentence. "Huh? What's so funny?" You questioned. "I'm flattered that you think that I'm a girl." she said. You quirked a brow and tilted your head to the left "What do you-" you suddenly realized what he meant "Oh! I'm so sorry!" You apologized. "It's alright, this isn't the first time it's happened, perhaps I should trim my hair. " He explained in a calming voice. "Oh, ok. That was kinda reassuring." you replied trying to dust off his clothes a bit. "I'm Y/n" you said "nice to me you..." you waited for him to give you his name. "Kurapika, Nice to meet you too" he said.
"Without a trace, No doubt in my mind."
"Well I'll see you around, Kurapika" you said walking away. "See you later." He said walking the opposite direction.
About an hour had passed and you met a guy who told you to call him Mr. Leorio, and another guy named Katzo who was a new crew member.
You walked out as some other crew members were bullying Katzo but before you could tell them off, the Captain walked up to them and told them to get back to work.
A little boy with green shorts and a green vest saw that during this an apple fell out of katzo's crate so he picked up an apple and threw it into the wooden crate before he left.
Suddenly the sea cranes started chirping and the boy looked up and then at the Captain. "Looks like there's gonna be a storm." He said. "Oh yeah? And just how do you know that?" The Captain asked. "That's what all the sea cranes are saying." The boy said rubbing his nose. He then jumped up to the watched tower and sniffed. "There's a really big one heading right for us! I can tell by the way it smells!" He replied.
Soon enough the storm had hit and everyone scrambled to get below deck as the Captain took the wheel, a lot of the other applicants and even crew mates were moaning and groaning because of the storm.
"Woah, that kids got superpowers or something!!" You said. "It is quite interesting" Kurapika added looking around. "It seems some of the other applicants are getting sea sick." He said. "Yup, and the storm wasn't even that bad." you said.
Once the storm had died down the Captain came inside the room below the deck that the You, Leorio, the boy, and Kurapika were in.
"Pathetic. And they think they can pass the hunter exam. they're good for a laugh, that's for sure!" The Captain said. "Here try these herbs." The boy —who you had come to find out was Gon—said giving a sick applicant some leaves. "Water" the applicant said. "Sit tight, it's on the way" Gon replied.
The Captain watched and widened his eyes, clearly intrigued before saying, "Huh, that boy again." He then turned, looking at the three of you. Katzo came running with the water "Coming through!" He said running past the Captain to give the water to the applicant "I got your water!" "Thank you, there drink up." Gon said handing the water to the sea sick crew mate.
The Captain told all of you to come to the the room with the wheel in it. "What are all your names" The Captain asked. "Y/n" you said. "my names Gon!" Gon said. "The name is Leorio" Leorio said. "I am Kurapika" Kurapika said. "Good, why do you wanna become hunters" The Captain asked. "Woah, what's with the third degree, your not an examiner!" Leorio said. "I will, because my dad is a hunter. Being was the most important thing in the world to my dad, and I wanna know why!" Gon said. "You don't have to tell him anything, kid!" Leorio said. "But he asked why I'm here, it's not a secret" Gon said. "Get with the program, it's us against him and I'm not telling him anything." Leorio said. "I'm afraid I have to agree with Leorio." "That's Mr.Leorio to you, you brat. Show a little respect for your elders" Leorio yelled. "But why not dodge the question by offering a plausible lie." Kurapika continued. "Hey! Are you even listening to me?!" Leorio asked. "As for me, I have my share of secrets, deep secrets which I do not wish to dispose at this time." Kurapika said.
"Hey, Katzo!" The Captain called Katzo "yes sir" Katzo said. "Get the exam committee on the line, tell 'em we got a few more drop outs" The Captain said. We all gasped. "What do you mean?" Leorio asked. "Don't you get it? The exam has already started" He said. "It has?" You all said in sync. "People like me help trim the fat. I already informed the committee about the rest of the lot. It was just a little storm and look how they handled it. They'd never survive the exam. The only way your moving on is if I give you the go ahead" The Captain said. "Think carefully before you answer."
You gulped. "Fuck, This is embarrassing! I uhh...my family. It's a family tradition to take the Hunter exam. I guess I don't have to hide my last name from you anymore. I'm Y/n L/n. The daughter of D/n and M/n L/n." You said scratching the back of your head. "I know, your family is very popular" Kurpika said. "Yeah that's why I usually don't tell people who I am" you said. "Your grandpa and I go way back" The Captain said. "Trust me I know, he's always telling me stories" you chuckled.
"I am the soul survivor of the Kurta clan. Four years ago, my entire clan was annihilated by a band of criminals. That is why I want to become a hunter, to capture the phantom troupe." Kurpika said making you gasp. "Sounds like you want to be a Black List hunter, and the Phantom troupe is a Class-A bounty." The Captain said. "Even the most seasoned hunter can't touch em. You know it's a suicide mission right?" The Captain stated. "Death is not among my fears, but there is one thing I do fear, and one thing alone: That time would quiet the rage in my heart." Kurapika's eyes flashed red. "Sound to me like your out for revenge. You don't really need to become a hunter just so you can settle an old score do you?" Leorio said. "That is the stupidest question I have ever heard, Leorio" Kurapika said annoyed. "That's Mr.Leorio" Leorio yelled. "There are places only hunters can go, intel only they can access, actions only they can take. There's re more reasons but those are the only three that you have a chance of comprehending." Kurpika said closing his eyes. You couldn't help but laugh a little as Leorio growled. Gon stepped in "Hey! why do you wanna becomes hunter Mr.Leorio.?" He asked. "Who me? Well it's pretty simple, really. For the money. Money can buy everything you ever wanted. A big mansion, a cool car, and top shelf booze." Leorio said. "If only you could buy class as well, Leorio" Leorio turned around "That was the last strike! Meet me outside. Time to finish off the filthy Kurta bloodline once and for all." Leorio said. Kurpika gasped "Take that back Leorio!" He said. Leorio ignored him. "I said take it back" Kurpika repeated. "It's Mr.Leorio" he said before waking out, Kurapika followed after him. "Uh, oh" you said.
"Hey where do you boys think your going, I'm not fifnished with you yet" the Captain said "let them go, it's like aunt into told me once. You can never understand a person unless you understand a person unless you know what makes them angry. It's how you get to know someone " Gon quoted his Aunt. "So, whatever there so upset about must be really important to them. It's up to them now." He finished.
"Captain! Look, over there" One of the crew members said. You all looked and saw a waterspout. "If we get caught up in that waterspout, the ship wont make it." Katzo said. "Get the sails lowered!" The Captain said. "Is there anything we can do to help?" Gon asked. "Follow me" Katzo said and the two of you followed him and helped pull the sail.
While pulling Katzo went flying and almost went flying overboard before Kurapika and Leorio caught him. Oh wait! They missed! Gon came running and jumped and clasped hands with Katzo and he almost went overboard too before Kurpika and Leorio caught his ankles.
Once the water sprout was gone Gon got scolded by Leorio and Kurapika who both apologized to each other for each other for their actions.
The Captain came out laughing. "You four are growing on me! So , I'll make sure all four of you get dropped off safely at the port closest to the exam. How's that sound?" He said. "But what about your test?" Gon asked. "It's like I said, I decide who gets to go on and take the exam. Congratulations, your all living on!" He said. You high-fived Gon. "That's what I'm talking about!" You said. "Alright!" Gon said.
