Chapter 13

By jseraphina

It was currently 8 pm and Liam had woken up. He leans on the headboard for support as he stretches out his arms in the air.

How long was I asleep?

He pushes himself out of bed and heads outside to search for his wife. Liam walks past several rooms in the house before noticing a soft light coming from the library. He quietly walks over to the room and opens the door.

Diamond was curled up on the couch, a blanket covering half her body. She was immensely engrossed in the book that she did not hear Liam reach her side.

“What the hell!” Diamond shrieks, feeling something touching her.

She jerks up from her previous position only to see Liam standing beside her with a soft smile on his face.

“Sorry.” He mumbles, his voice sounding tired.

“It's okay,” Diamond responds, putting down her book. “How are you feeling?”

“Better. My throat doesn’t hurt as much.”

“You look better, too.”

Diamond stands up from her seat and closes the distance between her and her husband. Liam’s eyes slightly show panic as she tries to figure out what she is doing. He watches as his wife lifts her right hand and gently presses her palm on his forehead. The remaining hand was placed on her forehead as she remained silent for a few seconds.

“Your fever seems to be down, too.” She informs feeling relieved. “I was so worried about it not going down. I didn’t know what to do.”

Diamond removes her hand and takes a step back. “Are you hungry? Cause I am. I haven’t had dinner yet.”

Liam shrugs. “I could eat.”

“You should. You only had to soup today.”

“Which was delicious, by the way. Sick Liam couldn’t explain that.”

Diamond chuckles softly. “What do you want to eat? I can make some pasta if you want?”

Liam shakes his head. “You’ve been running around taking care of me. Let me return the favor. I’ll cook.”

“No.” Diamond rejects. “You’re sick, I can’t make you stand in front of a stove cooking. You need to regain your energy.”

“The soup has worked its magic Diamond. I’ve been in that bed the whole day I have plenty of energy to spare.”

Diamond crosses her arms over her chest, not convinced by Liam’s statement.

“It will be fine.” He tries to reassure, watching the stern look his wife was giving him.

A smile finds its way on his lips as he listens to his wife’s stomach grumble softly.

“What? I said I was hungry.” Diamond defends, embarrassed.

“And I’m offering to cook. No, scratch that, I am saying I will cook. Now let’s go downstairs and let me make something for you before your stomach causes the house to tumble down.”

Diamond huffs walking past her husband. “It wasn’t that loud.”

~~~
“Enjoy,” Liam says, placing a plate in front of his wife.
A plate of neatly dished pasta sat in the middle of the plate. Grated cheese is laid on top of the dish, making it look even more appetizing. Diamond lifts her fork and takes a bite of her food.
“Oh, wow, this is good!” She compliments taking in a big bite of the food. “Which type of pasta is this?”
Gochujang pasta. You might know it as red chili paste pasta or something like that."
“No, I’ve never heard of it. I wish I did 'cause it’s so good.”
Liam smiles as he watches his wife take yet another huge bite.
“I think I just found my new favorite meal.”
“Eat as much as you want. There’s more in the pot."
The couple continued eating in silence, with Diamond passing a few more compliments to Liam, who grew more and more bashful at the comments.
“The food was amazing. Thank you so much, Liam.”
“You’re welcome.” He responds, chuckling.
Liam stands up to his feet and takes Diamond’s plate with him. He places them on the side of the sink before turning back to face his wife.
“You go relax. I’ll put these in the dishwasher and join you in a few.”
Diamond nods. “I’ll be in the living room.”
Liam turns his back onto the dirty dishes and begins to place them carefully in the dishwasher. Diamond gets up from the chair and heads to the living room to watch a movie. She selects a movie and presses play after looking over to her husband, who seemed to be done clearing up.
“What are you watching?” Liam asks, sliding next to his wife.
Train to Busan.”
“Didn’t you watch it when we went to Paris?”
“I did,” Diamond responds, looking at her husband.
“And you are watching it again?”
“Yeah.” She shrugs. “So?”
“Nothing.” He says, clearing his throat. “I think I watched it a few years ago, so I  don’t remember.”
“Prepare to be amazed then.” She beams.
~~~

You would think Liam would be deeply into the movie after he realized how good it was. He would have been paying attention if it wasn’t for his wife, who was wailing loudly next to him.

“Why did he have to die?” She cries out loud, tears streaming down her eyes. “It’s so cruel!”

“I know, I know, but he did it to save his daughter.” Liam tries to reason.

“But still! He shouldn’t have died!”

Liam rips out a tissue and hands it to his wife, who wipes off her tears before new ones rush down.

The credits start to roll, showing the end of the movie. Liam reaches out for the remote and exits the movie, Diamond still crying beside him.

“I never took you as a person who cries during movies.”

“I don’t.” Diamond croaks out her chest lifting. “This one was just sad.”

“But you’ve watched it before?”

“It got even sadder the more I watched it.”

Diamond had stopped crying but still had tissues to clear her runny nose. Being the supportive man he was, Liam ripped another tissue to hand over to his wife.

“Thank you for taking care of me today,” Liam says after Diamond had finished wiping her face. “Sorry for making you worry, too.”

Diamond crumbles yet another slightly damp tissue and smiles at Liam, her eyes blood red from all the crying.

“You’re welcome, Liam.”

Side note: I bawled my eyes out when I watched Train to Busan. That movie hurt so much.

I suggest you watch it if you haven't!
