"You got rope?" John B asked as they were driving down the highway.
"Got it," Pope said.
"Grappling hook?" John B asked.
"We don't have a grappling hook," Evelyn said, "We're not Batman."
The group pulled up to the Crain house right after the sun set.
"Pulley?" John B asked.
"Check," Kiara said.
"Dark clothes?" John B asked.
"Got it," Sarah said.
"Flashlights?"
"Check," JJ said.
"All right, good," John B said, "We're ready
"Let's go," Kiara said.
"Let's go get rich, guys," JJ said.
"Hell yeah," Evelyn agreed.
"Let's go boys and girls," Kiara said as John B slid open the van door.
"Wait," John B said stopping the group from leaving the van, "I wanna say thank you, guys. Seriously. It means a lot to me that you're here tonight."
"Always," Kiara said rolling her eyes.
"Wouldn't have missed it for the world," Evelyn agreed.
"Of course, man," Pope agreed too.
"All right, we done with this circle jerk?" JJ asked, "Can we do this?"
"Let's go get that wheat in the water," Pope said as they climbed out of the van.
"Weed?" JJ questioned, "I'm up for weed."
"When are you not," Evelyn asked rolling her eyes.
"Wheat. I said wheat," Pope confirmed.
"After you," Kiara said gesturing for Sarah to go first.
"Ladies first," Sarah said climbing up the wall.
"Here goes nothing," Evelyn said before pulling herself over the wall and dropping on the other side.
After everyone had made it over the wall, the group started walking toward the house. Evelyn looked around on alert.
"This place is even creepier in the dark," she whispered.
"Don't worry," JJ whispered from behind her, "I'll protect you."
Kiara stopped just in front of the house as everyone joined around her. Lights turned on making everyone run behind a nearby bush.
"Shit!" Sarah gasped.
"Flashlight," Kiara said.
"It's on strobe," JJ said struggling with his light.
"Shh," John B said putting his finger to his lips trying to quiet everyone.
"Okay," Pope said pulling off his face mask and hood, "Okay, so she has motion sensor lights."
"We could, uh..move really slowly, maybe?" JJ suggested.
Evelyn turned to give him a stupid look, "You know sometimes I wonder how you even made it to high school."
"That's not how that works," Pope said looking at the boy.
"Oh, shit. Let's throw a rock at it," John B suggested.
"What?" Pope exclaimed.
"That's a really good idea," Kiara said, "Let the axe murderer know that we're here."
"Does anyone actually have any good ideas," Evelyn asked looking around at her friends.
"You're supposed to be one of the smart ones," JJ said, "I don't see you coming up with anything.
"What about the breaker?" Sarah asked, "In the circuit box on the porch. We use to play hide-and-seek here as kids. And if we were brave enough, we'd go all the way up to the porch."
"She's right, I've seen it," Evelyn agreed.
"No, no. You're not going in the house alone," John B said.
"Watch me," Sarah said.
"Crain chops people into pieces," JJ said looking at Sarah.
"If you believe that, but she's what, 85?" Sarah asked.
"Yeah, something like that," JJ said.
"She's probably barley still kicking," Sarah said.
"I'll go with you," Evelyn offered.
"Absolutely not," JJ said grabbing the girls arm.
"Look," Evelyn said turning to JJ, "Do you want to get to gold or not?"
"I'll go too," Kiara said.
"We'll wait for your signal," Pope said.
"Okay, cool," Sarah said standing up.
"Hey," John B said, "Be safe."
Evelyn went to stand up JJ still had his grip on her arm. She looked at the boy who was giving her a worried look, "I'll be fine. I promise," Evelyn assured him.
JJ slowly loosened his grip letting go of the girls arm, "You better be."
Evelyn followed Kiara as the girls creeped closer to the house.
"She must have a generator plugged into the main power supply," Kiara said and the girl quietly climbed the stairs to the house.
Sarah shinned her flashlight on the breaker box as Kiara opened it up.
"Where are the breakers?" Evelyn questioned as they all looked at the empty box.
"What is this?" Kiara questioned.
"It goes inside," Evelyn said following cables up the house with her flashlight.
Kiara walked over to the old metal door opening is slowly with a creak. She turned the knob on the door, it opening. Kiara stopped when the front door creaked, not wanting to alert anyone inside. Evelyn squeezed through the opening shining her flashlight around the house. A cat yowled caused Evelyn to jump, looking down as it scurried away from the girls
"Guy, we gotta hurry," Evelyn whispered.
The three followed the lines from the outside as they went deeper into the house, eventually leading them to a breaker box on the wall.
"All right," Kiara said switching off the breakers as quietly as she could.
A sound made the girls gasp and Evelyn and Sarah turned off their flashlight. Evelyn closed her eyes smashing her body tightly to the wall behind them.
"Guys," Evelyn whispered.
"I think it might have just been a clock," Kiara said as shuffling thumping started coming from upstairs.
"I don't think that's a clock, Kie," Evelyn whispered.
"It's--it's late, Leon," the old woman said, "Too late."
Evelyn squeezed her eyes shut, covering her mouth trying to control her breathing.
"I can hear you, Leon," Mrs. Crain growled as she walked right past the girls.
The old woman turned around, looking straight at the girl,"I've been waiting all night!"
"Go!" Kiara yelled pushing Evelyn and Sarah from their hiding spot.
The girls ran down the hallway as Sarah ran on directions while Kiara and Evelyn ran another. Evelyn threw a door open running into another room with Kiara right behind her.
"Shit," Kiara said when she noticed the door in front of them was boarded up.
"Where are you, Leon?" the old lady yelled.
"Come on, we gotta try and rip it down," Evelyn said walking toward the door.
Kiara walked beside her trying, ripping at the boards. Neither girl could get the boards to even budge.
"What are we going to do?" Evelyn whisper yelled.
"I don't know," Kiara said still trying to pry the boards off.
"Kie," Evelyn said turning around a noticing the old lady.
The girls ducked as the old woman started swinging and jabbing the fire poker at them.
"Shit," Evelyn said grabbing her thigh as the fire poker grazed her.
The old woman pulled back the fire poker as Sarah grabbed ahold of it, throwing it to the ground.
"Come on," Sarah said holing out her hand, "This way!"
The girls ran out of the room, slamming the door behind them as they held it closed. Wood smashing made the girls run from the door.
"This way!" Sarah said, "It goes underneath the house!"
"Go, go, go, go!" Kiara said as the girls ran down the stairs toward the basement.
"I'm trying!" Sarah said back.
"Guys!" the girls yelled as the entered the basement.
"What's going on?" Pope asked looking at Evelyn, "Whose blood it that?"
Evelyn looked down to see blood covering her hands.
"Mrs. Crain! She's up there!" Sarah breathed.
"She tired to kill us with a fire poker," Kiara said.
"Hence the blood," Evelyn said putting her hand back on her thigh as it was dripping blood.
"We locked her in the parlor," Sarah said, "But we gotta go."
"Okay, code red," JJ said walking toward the well, "John B! Get back on, man!"
The group all held onto the rope preparing to pull John B out of the well. With all of them, hopefully it wouldn't take that long.
"Three, two, one, pull," Pope said
The teens pulled with all their strength, falling to the ground because there was no weight on the other end of the rope.
"Shit!" Sarah cursed.
"Where the hell is he?" Pope asked.
"John B!" Evelyn said.
"Shh, guys," Kiara shushed.
Mumbling came form the well, but they couldn't make out what John B was trying to tell them.
"What is he saying?" JJ asked.
"JJ! Pope! Kie!" John B yelled.
"Yo, he's drowning! We gotta pull him up!" Sarah said as the group ran back to grab the rope.
"John B! Get back on the rope. We're gonna pull you back up, okay, buddy," Pope assured.
"We gotta hurry," Evelyn said.
"Pull," Sarah said as the teens started pulling at the rope.
Groaning filled the basement as they worked to pull John B from the well. Evelyn could feel the blood from the cut on her leg dripping into her shoe. A gun shot made the girls scream.
"Oh shit!" JJ yelled as he tied off the rope.
Evelyn felt JJ grab ahold of her body as he pulled her to hide.
"She's blind," Sarah whispered right before another shot rang through the basement.
"Go! Go!" Pope yelled pushing Evelyn and JJ as another shot came near them.
"I don care if she is, that's buckshot!" JJ yelled.
Evelyn ran out of the small door that lead outside into the yard. There was a pain in her leg, but she pushed through just wanting to get off of the Crain property. She reached the stone wall, basically throwing herself over it to get to the other side.
"Get into the car!" Sarah yelled throwing open the back door.
JJ ran to the drivers seat as Evelyn opened the passage door crawling in, another gun shot ringing in the distance.
"Where is he?" Kiara questioned.
"Come on, start the car!" Pope yelled at JJ.
"John B!" Evelyn yelled as the boy jumped the fence and JJ started driving the van slowly.
"Why are we always getting shot at?" Pope questioned.
"Get in!" Kiara yelled.
"JJ, wait, wait, wait!" Pope yelled as JJ slowed the van down a bit.
John B jumped into the car, cover in dirt and mud.
"JJ, drive!" Sarah yelled.
"Oh, my God!" JJ said glancing back at John B, "Are you okay? Are you shot?"
"No," John B said shaking his head.
"I think I'd know if I was shot, right?" Kiara asked.
"You look disgusting," Pope said.
"You smell like ass," Kiara said.
"What the hell just happened?" Sarah breathed.
"All-time Pogue Hall of Fame, baby," JJ said.
"Hell, yeah," Evelyn agreed.
"That bitch is possessed," Kiara said.
"That bitch can't aim," Sarah said.
"She sure got me good," Evelyn said looking down, finally examining her leg.
Blood and dirt covered the wound, blood still coming out of it. Evelyn pulled off her shirt, tying it around her leg to hopefully stop the bleeding.
"How could she move that fast?" Pope asked.
"She's possessed," Kiara repeated.
"I don't understand," Pope said.
"She's blind," Sarah repeated.
"Like Master Yoda," JJ said.
"It makes no sense, scientifically," Pope said.
"Not everything can be explained by science, Pope," Evelyn said.
"She does yoga. Pilates," Kiara suggested.
"What is that?" Kiara asked making Evelyn turn around in her seat.
"No, you didn't!" Sarah exclaimed.
"We did it, baby!" John B yelled.
"No, you didn't!" Evelyn exclaimed with a wide smile on her face.
"I did it!" John B yelled.
"Oh, my God!" JJ yelled looking back at his friend.
Screams and yells of excitement filled the van. John B had actually found the gold and was holding some in his hand.
"Wait, wait," Kiara said, "Guys, we're gonna be rich!"
"Full Kook!" John B yelled.
"Full Kook! Full Kook! Full Kook! Full Kook!" the group chanted together.
