𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘!
𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗞𝗡𝗘𝗪. last night peter made the mistake of forgetting that ned was coming over and ned had found out that peter was spider-man.
so now, at school ned would not stop asking him questions and peter was scared someone would hear.
"can you spit venom?" ned whispers during science.
"no."
"can you summon an army of spiders?"
"no, ned."
"how far can you shoot your webs?"
"it's unknown. shut up."
"if i was you, i'd stand on the edge of a building and just shoot it as far as i could."
"shut up, ned."
during gym, peters class had to watch a fitness video with captain america.
"hi, i'm captain america. whether you're in the classroom or on the battlefield..."
"do you know him too?" ned asks.
"yeah, we met," peter responds, "i stole his shield."
ned turns, absolutely astonished, "what?"
"shut up," aristyn turns around from her seat in front of them before rolling her eyes and turning back forward.
"your gym teacher," captain america speaks as the teacher waves, "will conduct the captain america fitness challenge."
"thank you, captain. pretty sure this guy is a war criminal now, but i have to show these videos, it's required by the state. let's do it," the teacher blows his whistle when he's done.
gym used to be hard for peter, but after being bit by the spider, it all came easy to him.
as peter was doing sit-ups, ned, who was holding his feet asks: "do the avengers have to pay taxes? what does hulk smell like? i bet he smells nice."
"you have to shut up, someone's gonna hear you. the female thompson almost did earlier."
"is captain america cool?" ned continues, "or is he like a mean, old grandpa?"
"ned, just shh, okay?"
"hey, can i be your guy in the chair?"
"what?"
"yeah," ned rolls his eyes as though it's obvious, "you know how there's a guy with a headset telling the other guy where to go. like, like if you're in a burning building i could tell you where to go because there'd be screens all around me and i could swivel around. i could be your guy in the chair," ned concludes.
"ned, i don't need a guy in the chair," peter rejects.
"looking good, parker," the gym teacher says while walking by. "looking good thompson," aristyn smiles.
"thanks," flash shouts from his rope.
"yeah, i wasn't talking about you."
aristyn laughs and peter wants to chop his own ears off.
"now see for me, it would be f thor, marry iron man, and kill hulk," betty brant lists to a group of girls who were sitting off to the side.
"well, what about the spider-man?" as seymour o'reilly asks this, peters attention immediately becomes shifted. little did he know this catches aristyn's attention too.
"it's just spider-man," betty responds.
"did you guys see the security can on youtube? he fought off four guys," liz defends and peter feels his heart flutter.
betty rolls her eyes, "oh, my god, she's crushing on spider-man."
peter was ecstatic, liz allen has a crush on him! well, not technically him- but his alter-ego!
"he's probably like thirty," betty tries to reason with liz.
"you don't even know what he looks like," seymour agrees, "like what if he's like, seriously burned?"
"i wouldn't care, i'd love him for the person he is on the inside."
"peter knows spider-man!" ned blurts. peter feels his heart drop to his toes. the entire gym has gone quiet. he looks over to see that aristyn and her partner, madeline, has stopped doing their sit-ups to fully listen to the conversation. she looks both intrigued and interested.
she's probably thinking, 'how could a loser like peter parker know spiderman,', peter thinks.
to be fair, he wasn't that far off.
"ah, no i don't," peter scrambles to his feet, "no, i...i mean..." peter watches flash drop from his rope.
oh man, here comes the thompson twins, back to ridicule peter parker, he thinks.
"they're friends," ned continues, trying to help, although that's not working out so well.
"yeah, like coach wilson and captain america are friends," ah, there it is.
peter stammers, "i-i've met him, yeah, a couple times. but it's...um through the stark internship."
flash shoots him a questioning look and aristyn looks puzzled, almost as if she's trying to see into his soul. although she is an evil witch, peter doesn't think she can- at least he hopes she can't.
"yeah, well i'm not really supposed to talk about it," peter shoots that last part at ned.
"well that's awesome," flash mocks with fake sincerity, "hey, you know what? maybe you should invite him to liz's party, right?"
"yeah, um, im having people over tonight. you are more than welcome to come."
this sounds like a dream come true, "having a party?"
"yeah, it's gonna be dope," flash inputs, "you should totally invite your 'personal friend' spider-man, while you're at it, you should invite tempest too."
"it's okay," liz directs at peter, "i know peter is way too busy for parties anyway, so."
"come on, liz, parker'll be there, he wouldn't want to let you down. right, penis?" aristyn finally speaks, standing up. maddie joins her, standing tall compared to the short frame of her curly-haired best friend.
just then the bell rang and everyone got up to change.
liz shoots peter a look and he turns on ned, "what are you doing?"
"helping you out. did you not hear her? liz has a crush on you," ned pauses, "dude, you're an avenger, if any one of us had a chance with a senior girl, it's you."
"yeah, parker i wouldn't get your hopes up," the friends turn to see the devil in all her glory, leaning up against the wall. she pushes her body off and starts to walk toward them, "liz wouldn't date a loser like you."
did aristyn actually know that? peter asks himself. just her confidence in her response has peter questioning everything.
she doesn't, she just wanted to make some jabs at him, but he doesn't know that.
"anyway, i'll see you at the party i guess. can't wait to meet your friend spider-man," she smirks and waves as she walks away.
peter just stands there as ned leaves his side to get changed.
