(Y/N) POV
I entered the room and saw Zack sitting on his chair signing stacks of papers in front of him.
"Hello... sir." I greeted him.
"Hello (Y/N), how are you?" Zack asked me while still looking at the papers.
"I'm doing well sir. My wounds are fully healed and Wilona said that I can report back in duty." I answered loud and clear.
"Good. You might be wondering why I have called for you here." He said
"Actually, yes sir." I said
"Good. I was given a letter from the Castle, asking for guards for the lord's son." Zack said.
"Guards?" I asked.
"Yes, when you were out, the Castle was infiltrated and the youngest son of Lord Garte was... assassinated." He sighed
"That's horrible..." I frowned.
"Yes, it is and because of this, Lord Garte asked us to send someone to protect his son" Zack said.
"So why did you call for me?" I asked.
"I'm going to send you there."
"What?! Why?" I exclaimed.
"Calm down, I'm not abandoning you, it's just that we need guards here, but I cannot send newbies to the lord since that would look like I'm disrespecting the lord." He said as he stood up and walked towards me.
"But why me? Aren't I too young for this?!" I complained.
"Because all of the adults here are getting ready for the raid. We are already short on people and you are one of the best here. Even if you are young, you can order people and lead them to safety."
"But--".
"No 'buts'." Zack cut me off.
"You're the only one I can trust about this. I know you have done a lot for the border, but you really are the only one I can trust about this."
"Okay."
"Thank you. Now, we will leave as soon as possible."
"We?"
"Yes 'we'. I have to give the reports to the lord and request weapons for the coming raid and when I'm done I'll be back here, now go and pack your stuff."
"Alright... " I sighed.
~~TIME SKIP~~
Zack and I stopped by the stables to station our horse and traveled by foot for the rest of our journey to the lord but we were stopped by the guard at the entrance of the castle.
"Halt! State your purpose." the guard demanded.
"We're the borderline soldiers that the lord requested. Here's the letter to prove our purpose." Zack gave the letter and the guard took it then read it.
"I'll escort you there." the guard said and we followed him.
The castle was huge and there are so many spaces to roam around but because of my over-powered self in this world, it was a little easy to remember the halls and corridors.
The guard knocked on the door.
"The borderline soldiers are here, Milord." The guard said.
"Let them in." a man from inside the room said.
We entered the room and I was surprised to see the size of the room. It was like if mine and Katelyn's room were combined together. I was so amazed I didn't realize that I was being called.
"(Y/n)!" Zack whisper-yelled at me
I was snapped out of my thoughts and saluted to the lord.
"Is this the one who is meant to protect my son?"
"Yes my lord. She may be young, but she excelled in every test made for the guard academy. She is the youngest graduator in the history of the academy. She is also the first on the list Jury."
"I see. Very well I will take your word for her."
He looks at me and handed me a hand sized wooden plaque with the carvings of the O'Khasis flag.
"Since you are to guard my son, I'm giving you the same power as the commander. Now, Mrs. Miller will guide you to my son's office."
I looked at maid and she looked at me with disdain in her eyes.
I looked at Zack and he gave me a small encouraging smile. I followed the maid and realized how big the castle. I also realize that there was no maid or butler in sight, only guards. It was strange. She began to tell me what to do and not to do and stuff.
"You are to serve the young master and in the end of the day you are to return to your room which is the room next to his and rest."
"I thought I am to guard him 24/7?"
"The lord took consideration of you since you're still growing and all. It is your choice whether you want to guard him all night or not."
There was an awkward silence between us.
"So... What is Zane like?"
Mrs. Miller suddenly stopped. She turned and glared at me.
"You are NOT to call him by his name."
For an old woman, she was intimidating. Even though she was so much weaker than me, I feel like she can snap me like a twig.
"YES, Ma'am!!"
We walked in silence again but this time, she's the one that broke the silence.
"Be careful of your actions and words. He's not fond of people."
I just nodded. We walked past some familiar halls filled with simple but expensive decoration and then we saw a door with lanterns at the sides of the door.
As we walk closer to the door, my hearts keep beating faster and faster. The maid knocked on the door.
"Come in." a voice answered.
When we went inside my eyes widened at the young man who stopped reading the book on his desk. He has pale skin with dark hair and was wearing white tunic and black pants. Our eyes met.
It felt like time stopped.
'It's him.'
