The Rose And The Thorn

She was a red rose.
He was an angry thorn.
She sacrificed one of her petals every time she tried to touch him.
He made her cry and weep, but he also kissed her better.
She was the definition of beauty.
He was misunderstood.
So perfect for one another,
yet so imperfect.
So in love,
yet not able to touch,
not able to be near one another without her getting hurt.
Her petals shrivel when he keeps as much distance between them, fearing he would bring harm to her.
They watch each other from afar,
always wondering the perfect life they could have had if things had been different,
if he had been a rose
or if she had been a thorn.
