TERRACE
Sid and Sanju were on the terrace having beer. It had become a ritual for them to have beer once in 2 weeks on the terrace. Usually the beer cans would be accompanied with deep meaningful conversations but now there was just silence albeit not the awkward kind but the comforting soothing peaceful silence. Finally things were back on track.
'Tohe patah hai chirkut aaj Karan sirji aur Param sirji ko dekh ke humme toh lago tha ki hum koi sapna toh na dekh raho hai.' Sanju said breaking the silence.
'Mujhe bhi yahi laga Sanju, for a moment I thought either it was Karan sir's ghost or I was hallucinating him.' Sid said
'Ab jab Param sirji aur Karan sirji wapas aagaye hai academy mai jaan aagayi hogo. Kyu chirkut?' Sanju questioned.
'So true Sanju, Monu ko finally apna Khadoos wapas mil gaya, tumhe patah hai something inside me would always break jab bhi mai Monu ko Karan sir ki yaad mai rote huye dekhta tha.' Sid said in a low tone.
'Humne bhi dekho hai Monami ko raat mai Karan sirji ki yaad sai neend se chillate huye uthte huye. Maano woh bom blast ki saari yaadein uske dimaag mai dauhra raho hai. Par tumhe ek baat bataye chirkut Monami bohot hi strong hai. Kya kehte ho tum Monami ke baare mai.haa Monami fighter hai.' Sanju said she was in awe of Monami's intelligence, understanding and bravery since the time they knew about Karan's abduction to devising a plan to rescue him to the bomb blast and there after. Monami had proved Karan's statement about Monami being the best cadet of the academy true.
'Meri moti billi hai woh, fighter toh hogi hi.' Sid said smiling proudly at his Monu bro getting accolades from his lady love.
And they lapsed into comfortable silence again. The breeze was blowing lightly touching their face in the most serene and soothing manner possible. The silence was broken when they heard someone clearing their throat. They turned around and Sanju quickly jumped of the terrace parapet she was perched on, quickly followed by Sid.
'Sirji.' Sanju said while saluting him. Karan nodded at her in acknowledgement.
'Woh Karan sir Sanju ki koi galti nahi hai woh toh maine hi usse force kia tha ki woh mere saath beer piye...' Sid blurted fumbling so that Sanju wouldn't have to hear any scoldings from Karan.
'Siddharth relax.' Karan said cutting Sid off in between, 'Mujhe patah hai tum dono yaha kabhi kabaar beer peene aate ho. It's okay hum bhi yahi karte hai isliye relax mai chillaunga nahi. But this should not become a daily habit, tum abhi bhi training le rahe ho.'
'Yes sir and thank you.' Sid said Karan nodded his head.
'Sanju kya mai Sid se akele mai baat kar sakta hu? Agar tumhe koi problem naa ho toh.' Karan asked turning towards Sanju asking for her permission. Sid froze Karan wanted to talk to him alone, was he in trouble again ? He just hoped he wasn't.
'Sirji isme humse kaa puchno hai, Chirkut toh aapka bhi cadet hai.' Sanju replied.
'Haa cadet toh hai hi par maine suna hai woh tera boyfriend bhi hai isliye socha tujhse permission le lu.' Karan said blantantly.
Sanju blushed a dark shade of red and Sid stood scratching the back of his head in order to hide his embarrassed blushing face. She quickly collected her beer can and muttered a quicky reply to both and left from there.
Karan came and stood in front of Sid, the latter looked at him and stood in his usual attention stance.
'Relax Sid mai tumhe khaa nahi jaunga. Agar Rani Saheba ke best friend ko maine kuch kia woh mujhe chodengi nahi.' Karan said jokingly and moved towards the beer can crate.
Sid relaxed a little only for a moment until Karan's next statement swept the ground off his feet.
'Waise maine ek aur baat suni hai, ki tumne Balli ko Karan samajhkar uske saath beer bhi pi hai.' Karan said his back still towards Sid.
Sid's face turned pale, 'Woh sir actually I thought ki Balli was...'
'Mere humshakal ke saath beer peene se behtar toh yahi hai ki tum mere saath hi beer piyo. That would be better right ? Am I right or am I right.' Karan said turning around his hands occupied with an opened beer can in each hand and moved towards Sid whose eyes seemed as they would bulge out of their sockets at any moment and jaw wide open to the floor.
'Muh bandh karle and yeh pakad.' Karan said handing Sid one beer can and proceeded to sit at the terrace parapet.
Sid looked at the beer can that was thrust into his hand. Was this truly the same Karan Shergill who was so khadoos and intimidating or was this Balli again.
'Aap Karan sir hi ho na?' Sid asked amused moving towards Karan sitting at the parapet a beer can in his hand.
'Haa kyu koi shaq?' Karan replied.
'Yes bohot bada shaq aap Karan sir ho hi nahi sakte kyuke Karan sir would never sit down to have beer with me. Balli if this is you toh batade bro mazaak mat kar.' Sid said
'Sid mai Karan hi hu.' Karan said firmly.
'Balli jhoot mat bol dekh I'm done with you pretending to be Karan sir. Bohot hogaya tera bro matlab it doesn't even suit you, tum dikhte ho dole shole bro ki tarah but you guys are poles apart.' Sid said exasperated of Karan's doppelganger.
'Sid mai Karan hi hu tumhe kyu lagta hai ki mai Balli hu?' Karan said equally exasperated.
'Kyuki Karan sir would never sit here and drink beer with me. Agar tum sach mai Karan sir ho toh mujhe yeh batau ki Monu ne kaunse color ki top aur jeans peheni thi jab woh first time academy mai aayi thi.' Sid asked, it was a trick question coz Monami had worn an emerald green co-ord set outfit the day when she came to the academy.
'Sid Rani Saheba ne top aur jeans nahi balki ek green color ka co-ord set pehena tha jab woh academy peheli baar aayi thi.' Karan said, how could he ever forget that day in his life.
'Aap Karan sir hi ho, yess. Thank god mujhe toh laga aap Balli bro the.' Sid exclaimed finally believing it was Karan and not Balli.
'2 baatein Sid.' Karan began keeping his beer can aside and Sid raised his 2 fingers. Karan smile shaking his head at the similarity between Monami and Sid.
'Peheli tum mujhe bro bulaa sakte ho.' Sid's eyes turned wide in shock and his face had a huge ass grin. 'Dusri ki tum mujhe bro sirf off training bulaoge. We cool with that.' Karan said forwarding his hand for a handshake.
Sid kept his beer can and jumped on Karan to hug him. Karan was taken aback by this reaction. He lifted his hands and patted Sid on his back.
'We missed you bro. But I'm glad you're finally back Monu ke chehre pai uski puraani smile wapas aagayi hai.' Sid said while breaking the hug and smiling end to end. Karan nodded his head sharing a smile with Sid.
They both raised their cans, 'Cheers to you coming back bro!!' Sid exclaimed. Karan shook his head at Monami's best friend both of them were literally so childish at times.
'Waise bro ek baat puchu how come suddenly aapne mujhe allow kia Karan sir se Karan bro pai transition karne.' Sid asked while sipping his beer.
'Woh kya hai na Sid, family mai formality nahi hoti. And now even you are family. Bhaiya and bhabhi ne kaha toh tha, bhul gaye kya. Toh tum kya apne family members ko sir keh kar pukaarte ho.' Karan said and turned to look at Sid who's eyes where numb.
'Tujhe kya hua?' Karan asked perplexed.
'I never thought you would accept me in your family and never ever I thought I would have such a family ever again.' Sid said emotionally.
'Sid maine jab Rani Saheba se pyaar kia na mujhe tabse patah tha ki tum dono ek package deal ho and I don't think Rani Saheba se itna pyaar koi aur karta hoga jitna hum dono usse karte hai.' Karan said 'Aur rahi baat family ki Parakram SAF ek family hi thi starting se aur ab jab tum Shergill family join kar chuke ho you can't backout now. Shergill family will always be your family saale saheb.' Karan completed sipping his beer from the can.
'Thank you so much bro...but what does saale saheb mean?' Sid asked confused at the new term.
Karan shook his head in exasperation and replied, 'Saale saheb matlab saala is biwi ka bhai. Aur tum toh Monami ke bhai ki tarah huye uske best buddy iss hisaab se after mine and Rani Saheba's marriage you would be my brother-in-law and brother-in-law ko hindi mai saala bolte hai.' Karan explained.
'Oh okay now I get it.' Sid said understanding 'So wait, after you both get married can I call you jeez bro?'
'Jeez bro?' Karan asked.
'Yepp woh actually jiju sounds so uncool isliye Sid G style mai Jeez bro.' Sid said doing his signature style.
Karan rolled his eyes at Sid's statement and nodded in acceptance. The two lapsed in comfortable silence.
'Waise ek baat batau Karan bro, thank you so much wapas aane. Mujhe meri purani moti billi mil gayi. You know aapke jaane ke baad woh completely aap ke tarah bann chuki thi ekdum khadoos. But now that you are back everything is gonna be fine. I know aap meri moti billi ko hamesha khush hi rakhoge bass kabhi kabhar meri side le lena jab mai aur Monu jhagdenge.' Sid said and Karan let out a chuckle.
'Thank you tumhe bhi Sid, Monami ka mere absence mai itna dhyaan rakhne ke liye. Usse samajhne ke liye, usse woh space dene, usse ke saath ek dhal banker khade hone ke liye, uska khayal rakhne ke liye.' Karan said truthfully his heart oozing with nothing but respect and appreciation for Sid for being by Monami's side all this while.
'Bro aap family bhi bolte ho aur thank you bhi, that's not done.' Sid exclaimed.
'Toh yeh hi baat tum pai bhi jaayaz hai.' Karan retorted back and Sid bit his tongue at the realisation.
'Waise mujhe teri ek favor chahiye.' Karan said keeping his can aside and turning towards Sid and crossing his arms at his chest.
'Arrey bro aap ek kya 1000 favors maang lijiye.' Sid said while grinning at Karan.
'Filhaal toh ek hi chahiye help karega.' Karan asked.
'Off-course bro peheli batau toh ke aapko kya favor chahiye.' Sid asked after agreeing to help Karan.....
