My brother opens the kitchen cupboard as I scribble down a few notes in my homework book, I hear the sound of plates. "What are you doing?"
"I'm hungry" Matty replies
I take off my glasses, "Don't eat that pasta, it's off"
He scrunches his face as he looks back at it
"I'll get Enzo to order"
"Pizza?" He asks
I get up, "Sure"
Todays been pretty boring, we've all just had a chill day at home instead of going to school. I tuck my phone into my back pocket before going upstairs and reaching for my older brothers door, "Yeah she'll tell me and Zo everything but if somethings really bothering her then she'll keep it to herself, she doesn't like trusting other people. It's clearly a trait she picked up after June decided to dump her as a friend"
I narrow my eyes as I look through the crack in the door, he's on FaceTime with Sienna.
Carmen left yesterday morning, she went to some camping trip without telling dad so she's in for it when she gets back. I just don't get why she does this to herself all the time, then acts surprised when mom and dad get mad.
My brother sighs as he sits up on his bed, "Yeah I get you"
"Why do you ask?"
"I don't know I just have a feeling that somethings off.... She's been acting weird"
"Weird is an understatement"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know, everything was fine yesterday but I feel like maybe she got into an argument with Carter"
Damn
Enzo looks up after noticing me, "Si let me call you back"
"You better"
He smiles a little, "I will-.... Love you"
"I love you too"
The call ends as I fold my arms and he rolls off the bed, "What"
"Me and Matty wanna order food"
He opens the window before picking up a blunt along with a lighter, "So then order"
I roll my eyes, "I'm hinting at you"
Enzo lights the blunt, "I can see that"
"So can I have thirty dollars?"
"I'm tired of you and Santi pretending to be broke, pay for your own shit"
"But I am-
"I've seen your bank account, and don't act like dad doesn't give you money weekly"

"So no?"
He looks at me before looking back at his phone and I roll my eyes before leaving his room and shutting the door behind me.
It was worth a try
I decided that I didn't want to be the one to pay for the pizza so I just decided to wait until Daniel got here, hoping that I would have better luck with him. But then when I walked into the kitchen hours later it looked like my family had other plans
"What's going on"
"Food, what does it look like" Daniel snorts
"I thought we were ordering?"
"Think again, family dinner"
I look back at dad, "But I told you that Rachel was coming over-
"And I'm telling you that she can't come over today"
"Attitude" I mutter as he walks away
Me: Hey can we rain check
Rachel: Bitch, why
Me: Dad decided to be a grinch
Rachel: there's always next week I guess
"Dads being moody with you too?" Santi says knowingly
I nod as I sit with him and Lola on the couch, "Moodier than ever"
"I know right, he wouldn't even let me go to the convenient store", Our sister snorts
"Loco"
I sit back as the movie on tv continues to play, I don't even know what it is but I'll watch it anyway out of boredom. Dad was still in a pissy mood and nobody knew why, but then when the reason revealed itself we realised.
The house goes silent as she steps into the house, once again looking miserable and tired. Dad has that cold face, no trace of emotion in sight.... I'll admit it scared me a little bit because I've never seen it before. "Estás mentalmente bien?"
-are you mentally ok?-
She doesn't reply and that pisses him off even more, "Two days Carmen! No phone call, no text. Debes pensar que puedes hacer lo que quieras"

The way he's switching between English and mother tongue shows how mad he is, each and everyone of us are watching silently. "That trip better have been worth it" Mom says from the kitchen
What dad said next shocked me, "Dame tu teléfone"
Hes never asked for her phone before
Enzo raises his eyebrows with surprise
"I'm serious"
She reaches into her pocket before handing it over. "You go to school, you go to work and that's it" He says seriously
Santi and I watch as our sister walks up the stairs. "She's brave for coming back, I'll give her that" Mom mutters
"Wait where did she go?" Daniel says confused
"The camping trip that they do for Juniors every year" Santi answers
"What's wrong with that?-
"She didn't ask for permission" Dad replies
My brother snorts, "Neither did I but you didn't seem too mad about it-
"Dude just stop" Santi sighs
He raises his hands with surrender before opening the fridge and I sit back as I think to myself. I thought I'd be laughing at the fact that Carmen didn't get away with stupid shit this time..... but somehow I feel bad. Like really bad
After about an hour or so I decided to go back upstairs, mainly because I was not about to let myself feel dads wrath next. I swear it's like a domino affect, one sibling after the other. As I walk to me and my siblings floor of the house I pass by my sisters room, the doors open a tiny bit. And me being the nosy girl that I am I decide to peek through, "Sienna says you were upset this morning" A voice says quietly
I narrow my eyes after spotting Enzo seated at the edge of her bed, "I'm fine" Carmen finally whispers
Yeah right
"But if things weren't ok you'd tell me...right?-
"What are you doing?"
I look back as Lola walks up the stairs, then I shrug
"Nothing"
"Eavesdropping" She says knowingly
"I wasn't-
"Move over then" She nudges me aside and I scoff as she looks through the crack in the door
"Everything's fine" We hear Carmen say
"I hope he's not the problem C, I don't know what he was doing but every time I'd see you with him-.... Shit you actually looked happy"
Lola narrows her eyes, "He's talking about Carter"
"Yeah no shit, leave them alone" I whisper
"I'm doing it because I want to" She says before walking away
I roll my eyes before following her back to our room. I do wonder what's going on with Carmen, especially after hearing the phone call between Sienna and Enzo. Maybe something is going on, but if it were then she would've at least told one of us already.... There's not much I can do at this point
I'll leave her be

Two hands cover my eyes as I reach for my locker, "Guess who"
I smile knowingly, "Probably the only brunette that I've made out with a couple times this week"
His mouth hovers over my ear and he murmurs, "Correct"
I turn around, "I feel like I haven't seen you in ages"
"Argh I know, I've been at home" I reply
He leans down to kiss me and I prolong it as the bell for first period rings, "Cody!" Zach calls out from the end of the hallway
He finally pulls away, "My place tomorrow"
I bite my bottom lip as he walks away
This guy has me smiling way too much.... It's kind of freaky. The doors leading to the exit shut and I frown as I turn around, "How comes your late?"
"Dad dropped me" Santi replies as the hallways clear out
"Where's Carmen?"
He sighs, "Honestly I don't know..... she left after I tried apologising"
I narrow my eyes, "You apologised"
"Look Adri as much as we don't wanna admit it, she was right"
I frown
"It wasn't her fault when mom fainted, her phone was off she couldn't have known"
"Yeah but-
"And moms ok now, we're literally fighting over nothing"
I don't reply as I think for a moment, "I suppose you do make a valid point"
"Yeah.... I'll see you at break"
I wave as he walks away
