You looked up to see a boy with brown hair.
"Yeah."
The boy smiled widely at you. "Great! Can I eat lunch with you today?"
You shrugged. "Sure."
"Yay! I'm Camryn by the way, but you can call me Cammy."
"Okay, Camryn."
Camryn chuckled nervously and bumped your shoulder with his. "'Kay, well I'll see you around then, huh?"
You hummed half-heartedly and turned back around to see the teacher.

A boy was typing away at a screen..
He was muttering incoherently as he worked, brain powering new combinations at a rapid pace.
Abruptly, his phone dinged, and he jolted from his trance. The boy's round glasses tilted off of his nose and skittered to the floor with a dull 'thump'.
Fumbling with the lenses, he managed to situate them back in place before making a mad dash for his phone.
He hurriedly read over the message.
His hand went back behind him to fist his slightly overgrown hair.
Typically, he would at least brush it when it got to the point of being messy, but he'd been in no mood that day.
"No...no. No-no-no-no." The boy's bloodshot eyes fixed intently on the screen of his phone, and his fingers clumsily began to type out a response.
He jumped into the rolling chair by his desk and rotated it to face one of his side computers. His hands slammed down on the keyboard, and he began to type furiously.
Ding!

Sweat began to run down the sides of the boy's face as he somehow managed to type faster.

He waited in anticipation as the screen began to change, though his fingers continued to race across the keyboard in a frenzy.
His fingers were beginning to cramp up.
His eyes watered slightly.

The boy heaved a sigh of relief, shaking hands cradling his face as he watched the swirling icon appear once again.

You stared across the table at Camryn
This was awkward.
Andy, too, was staring at the newcomer, but her expression wasn't nearly as blank as your own.
No, her stare was menacing.
"So, you're Andy, right?" Camryn smiled warmly at your friend.
"How the fuck would you know?"
"I just happened to catch your name in one of the classes we've got together!"
"That doesn't explain why you popped out of nowhere and decided to bother my friend." Andy's glare hadn't weakened. If anything, it was even stronger now.
"I want to be your friend!" Camryn looked back at you. "Both of you's friend!"
Andy looked ready to commit murder now. "Why the fuck would you think that we would want to be friends with you?"
You had long ago given up on trying to calm her down when she got like this.
Camryn seemed hurt, looking at your friend like she'd kicked his puppy. "Why not?"
"Y/n and I don't need any other friends. We've got each other. Right, N/n?" Andy turned her gaze to you expectantly.
You glanced up from your lunch briefly. Why did she always drag you into these things? "Yeah."
Camryn's eyes shifted between the two of you, giving you a look of betrayal as if you'd even known his name for more than two hours.
He turned around and left, eyes fixed on his shoes as if to shield his face.
You would admit that you felt bad for the boy, but you'd learned long ago that in a situation like this, one of you would always suffer.
It was simply a question of who to protect, you or him.
And as always, you chose the former.
