Alarms were going off. Jess was already disoriented from her head trauma, but the alarms sounded like she was hearing them from underwater. She opened her eyes when she realized the other sound she heard was muffled voices. Glancing over she saw blurred figures, three on one side and two on the other.

She blinked slowly and when her eyes opened again, one of them was gone. The green and blue blur moved to attack one of the black blurs and she felt her bionic arm move to open a pocket. The green and blue blur disappeared and she could feel their attention on her.

Orange and black approached her but she couldn't hear any of the mumbling they were trying to say. The blur got closer but the sounds were still muffled.

"-s foggy." Jess could hear part of what she had voiced, but even from her own mouth things didn't sound right.

One of the black blurs had left, and at some point the alarm had stopped. The other black blur approached and seemed to be talking too, but everything was still muffled. The two blurs talked to each other before a light was shined in her eyes. They must not have gotten the reaction they were looking for since they continued talking and then left the room.

She let her eyes close again since there was no reason to keep them open at the moment. She was trying to will the fog away.

Cataloguing what she had barely seen she was able to piece together some of what she saw. The green and blue blur must have been Miss Martian. But where did the pocket go? Did she send her home or into a dark pocket? One of the black blurs must have been Manta while the other must have been Kaldur. But who was the other person when she opened her eyes the first time?

She was still disoriented, and not entirely sure what caused it. She opened her eyes again, it was still fuzzy but not as bad. Her hearing was unchecked since there wasn't anything making noise for her to gage the recovery.

A red flash drew her attention to the far corner of the room. She looked over slowly and noticed a black clad figure. It moved closer and was talking, but her hearing was still off. A weight landed in her lap. She looked down at the ball of orange and tried to piece together what it was.

"Teekl?" The orange ball moved and snuggled into her middle. She looked back up at the now identified Klarion blur only to be hit in the face with a red flash. She rubbed at her eyes for a moment before hearing a meow.

Clear as day, and her eyes snapped open. She fixed her eyes on the now clear Teekl.

"You can thank Teekl for my interference." Klarion said as he crossed his arms. She looked up at him somewhat confused.

"Thank you." Klarion huffed looking like an indignant child while Teekl just meowed nuzzling into her hand.

"If I had it my way you'd still be in that sorry state. Teekl is the one who wanted you fixed. The light also still has use of your abilities." He looked anywhere but at Ghost. She nodded, understanding that he wanted to help but didn't want everyone to know he wanted to help.

"Teekl is a good kitty." She scratched behind his ears. "I guess I owe you one. Thank you though. I'm sure you have some chaos that had to be paused in order to come here."

"That's right so if I could have my cat back I'll get back to it." He huffed and Ghost smiled slightly. Klarion was unpredictable but he had his good points.

"I know it's not magic like you're used to." She opened a pocket to a quartz mine she knew of. "But I'm sure you could find some use for it." She pulled out a hand sized chunk of the clear crystal. "I've heard clear quartz is an excellent amplifier." Teekl rubbed up against her stomach as Klarion glared at the gift. "There's no catch. Only a thank you gift." He snatched the gift out of her hands and looked it over.

"Our partnership with the reach is nearing termination. They're trying to destroy the planet." He notified as he picked up his familiar.

"Can't have that. Life is no fun without a bit of chaos." Klarion smirked a bit at her statement, and stepped into a portal he created. "I don't imagine I'll be long for this world anyways. I'd hate to see it go though." She watched Klarion disappear and decided to get out of the bed she was in. She opened a pocket and pulled out her phone.

-Superboy-
Are you okay Caley? You haven't been responding.

-Emergency Contact-
I'm okay wonder boy. Been laid up with a bunch of homework.

She didn't think twice before hitting send. Only after she reread it though did she realize her mistake.

-Superboy-
Wonder boy? Why did you call me that?

She stared at her phone for a while, eventually Kaldur walked through the door. She was grateful since she was about to have a breakdown. Her phone in her trembling hands.

"Jess?"

"Kaldur." Her eyes tearing up. "I messed up." He walked over and took the phone. He pulled her into a hug, not that it was super comfortable with his armor on.

"It's okay. We can work through this." He looked at the phone to see another text had come through, but then it started ringing. Jess had curled closer to Kaldur. "Want me to answer it?"

"I don't know how he's going to respond."

"I'll answer in the hall if you need me to." She shook her head but Kaldur answered the phone. No one said anything for a minute. The two staring at the phone waiting for something to happen.

"Jess?" Conners voice came through the phone. Neither spoke though. "Please Jess if that's you I need to hear you say something. Anything. Please?" He got quiet but she only stared at the phone in slight terror.

"Conner." Kaldur said quietly. Hopefully this didn't backfire.

"Kaldur?" His tone was different now.

"Conner before you hang up there's something I need to tell you."

"Nightwing told me. About you and tigress. I know."

"This is about Ghost." It got quiet for a bit, but Jess had yet to move.

"Go on."

"Ghost is Jester."

"She's alive?" There was relief in his tone.

"Mostly. She isn't the same as before. A lot has happened."

"I'm sure I'm to blame for part of that. Is she there?"

"Yes."

"Jess? I'm sorry for how I reacted. I don't blame you for anything that happened. I know it wasn't your fault. I was just angry. I couldn't stand losing you too." He got quiet again. "Jess?"

"I'm sorry." It was almost inaudible but Conner heard.

"Don't apologize. You have nothing to be sorry for." Jess didn't respond.

"It's been a couple days since Miss Martian escaped. Has she made it back to you?"

"She's with the team. She's a little shaken up and won't discuss what happened."

"She went into Jess' mind."

"What?"

"Jess took a mental blast from her to protect me. She went into a comatose state which is why Megan was captured."

"Give me a moment. I'll be right back." The line disconnected.

"I imagine he'll call back, can you meet with my father for a moment?" That snapped Jess out of her fear state and she nodded.

"Of course. Anything to stay in the light." He nodded and escorted her to the main communications room and Manta made a report on her recovery to the leaders of the light.

Once that was taken care of Kaulder took Jess back to her room.

"Are you okay? Your recovery seems sudden."

"I am functioning normally. Klarion helped heal me." She scratched at the back of her head. "Everything was fuzzy with an extra layer of slow. He healed me with magic."

"You and Klarion know each other well?"

"Not really. I get along with his familiar better. Teekl somehow persuaded him to help. But I imagine it's probably due to my ability being needed in the future."

"You are more than your ability." Jess shook her head.

"I know, but I have a feeling that things are gonna go south pretty quick." Her phone rang again.

"Jess?" This time it was Megan over the phone.

"I'm here."

"Good. Because we need your help. Nightwing says it's time."

"Understood." Kaldur took the phone, but Jess still had a sinking feeling in her gut. Something was going to go wrong.
