Prologue Part Five
I never want to leave I have never felt like I truly belonged somewhere this strongly before not even at home with my family. I'm not sure how long I've been gone. It feels like a long time though. The silver and blue dragons haven't told me there name but they did find me food when I needed to eat. Only one left at a time. The silver dragon is a female and the sapphire blue one is her mate. After the dragon dance I was taken into the nest and I've been there ever since. I'm in no hurry to leave for some reason. I want to stay here but I know deep down that I can't I need to go home. My family is probably freaking out that I'm gone. They may already be looking for me.
I doubt they would even think of looking here in the dragons nest for me. It's a forbidden place after all and all trespassers are never seen again. I don't understand why I am not considered a trespasser or why I feel so at home here. But the two dragons that have been taking care of me remind me of something I can't quite remember. Maybe I was too young to remember. I look outside the storm has completely stopped now. I'm in the lower part of the nest it's a small climb to get to where I am but I was carried here. I was so tiered I wasn't walking very fast so the silver dragon carried me on her back.
The silver dragon has been giving off a protective mother vibe and when it's her turn to hunt she is very reluctant to do so. Her mate has been bringing in extra food for her and last night the silver dragons was forced to go hunt because her mate didn't want to leave he curled up behind me and wouldn't move. He's been giving off a protective father vibe. They sort of remind me of my parents and how they are so protective that I can't leave the village on my own even though other kids my age can. I wonder if it's because I'm the youngest girl. It probably is.
I get up from the makeshift bed I'm in. The first time I woke up here I woke up on a bed of straw. I'm not sure where it came from but the dragons seemed to understand I couldn't sleep on ice like they can. And the food they brought me was already cooked. I wonder if someone gave it to them so they could give it to me. I look out into the distance and see dragons coming and going as they please. Even baby dragons are flying around and playing with one another. There are two baby dragons that were in this part of the Dragon Nest they were very curious about me and kept sniffing me and when I slept they slept right next to me. One time I woke up with their heads on me and I couldn't really move. Until I moved them off of me. They remind me of Nao. Nao is care free and he likes to play a lot. We are almost always together doing something.
I take in a deep breath taking in the cold air. I feel much better now and the cold doesn't bother me at all no matter how long I am out in it. I think I've just adapted to the extreme cold of the far north. The wind picks up a little bit but the sky is completely clear. I go back inside and walk over to the water basin and get a drink. I noticed that the dragons can control ice at will they can make it expand or retract it. I'm not sure why the water doesn't freeze as cold as it can get in the nest. But I suppose if they wanted me to know they would tell me.
I sit back down on my bed. The silver dragon move closer to me allowing me to lean against her. I feel so at peace right now. I'm not sure if it's the quiet or if it's something else altogether. I close my eyes and my breathing syncs with the dragons breathing. I get another strange feeling. It feels like something deep within me is also syncing it's breathing with the silver dragon. I'm not sure what it is or why I feel this way but I like it, it feels nice. I'm human but I don't feel out of place here not the way I do when I home sometimes. Something in the air changes and I hear aggressive growling. I open my eyes and I'm not lying against the silver dragon any more.
When I look at her she's standing at her full massive height and growling viciously at something at the entrance. I follow her eye line and gasp. Zero is standing there bowing to the dragon and showing that he means no harm.
"Tessa, are you alright?"
"Yes."
"I am so happy I found you. We've all been worried sick about you. You just disappeared. It's time to go home now."
"But I don't want to leave."
"Tessa you don't belong here."
"Yes I do."
"No you belong with us."
"I feel out of place there."
"You are not out of place."
"I feel like I'm home here. I want to stay."
"Tessa I know you feel drawn to dragons more so than anything or anyone else but you don't belong in a dragon nest."
"Don't say I am special."
"You are, you are so special I can't even begin to explain that to you. You'll understand it yourself when you are older but for now you need to trust me." Zero turns to the silver dragon "She doesn't belong here right now, you know I am right."
The silver dragon just growls at him and blocks me from his view.
"Tessa please come home everyone is worried about you. We've been looking for you for days. We were afraid we might find you dead. Please come home."
"I don't want to leave."
"I know, if it were up to me I would let you stay here but for now it's not your place. I think you know that deep down. Tessa please everyone is waiting for you."
I don't want to leave I belong here I may not be a dragon but this is where I belong I can feel it deep down. I think this is where I was being drawn to all along. There's a loud growl at the entrance. I stand up to get a better look. The blue dragon has returned and he doesn't seem too happy about Zero being here. Zero bows to him and says something I can't hear. The silver dragon hears it and she lets out a growl that makes me want to comfort her. I wonder why she is so sad. She continues to shield me from Zero. Whatever he just said she isn't too happy with.
The blue dragon growls and comes over to me. He seems very protective and is glaring at Zero.
"I'll protect her with my life, I promise. You know it's not time for her to be here yet" Zero is talking to both of the dragons.
I don't understand why Zero is saying what he is saying. But I can tell that he is trying to appease the dragons. It doesn't seem to be working because they don't move they just glare at him. Zero is knocked down one of the little dragons is trying to force him to leave. The other one bite's down on Zero's fur cloak and pulls trying to pull him out of the cave. They took him by surprise the first time but Zero stands up and manages to stop them from forcing him out. The baby dragons reflect their parents glares. But Zero isn't allowing them to force him out. He stands there looking into the eyes of the silver and blue dragons.
"Tessa, please come home."
I let out a sigh I need to go even if I don't want to. The dragons don't seem too keen on letting me go though. I tell them both goodbye and pet them on their head. They sniff me before putting their heads against me. It feels like they are hugging in their own way. It feels nice. The smaller dragons give up on forcing Zero out and try to stop me from going. I hug them both.
"I'll come back I promise" I tell them "One day when I'm older I will come back."
"Stay please."
"Elder sister stay."
They don't want me to leave they see me as an older sister. I don't want to leave either but Zero is right this nest is a place for dragons and I am not a dragon. Maybe me having dragons blood is enough for them and to them it doesn't matter if I look like a dragon. I don't belong here though I belong with people who are like me. At least for now. I can come back anytime.
I feel like the more I try to convince myself the less I believe the words I'm saying to convince myself I need to leave. I hug the baby dragons again I look at the older dragons. The silver dragon looks utterly devastated as she looked back at me. The blue dragon seemed to be comforting her and from what I can tell it's not working. I walk over to Zero and he hugs me.
"I am so happy you are safe."
"I want to stay."
"I know. You can't right now though. One day you'll understand I promise."
Zero took off his fur and put it around my shoulders,
"I'm not cold."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure."
He holds out his hand and I take it. We leave the cave and make our way Neige. I hear a roar loud enough the shake the ground.
"ISIS"
I feel strange as if i am being called and everything goes blank. I feel like something takes over me and I am not mot myself but at the same time I am myself. I've never felt like that when this feeling comes over me. What is happening to me?
