Author:(Just in case someone was wondering,the Heatbat is half big brown bat.The clue is in the moment where Dr.Animo sees a bat in the observatory and says: eptesicus fuscus.)
Our story starts at the very end of Dr. Animo and the Mutant ray.Animo's mutant frog and the Heatbat layed defeated as Dr.Animo dealt with the young Tennysons who defeated him as well.While they were wondering how to fix their grandpa and Ben felt sorry for what he did,Heatbat slowly moved his head up and shooke it.Seeing as the flaming fish was still there the Pyronite bat didn't want to their tail kicked again so it sneaked out and flew away before the Tennysons could notice and call the police for Dr.Animo.
They assumed that once the ray lost it's power source Heatbat changed back into regular bat and flew away.Oh how wrong they were.Very wrong indeed.Due to its enhanced and slightly unstable DNA,the Heatbat had some adapting to do.Evolve or perish.After few month of hiding and studying humans that it might began to hunt one day,the Heatbat had settled in the abandoned observatory.As it was napping strange sparks began to dance around its body.
The flames were getting brighter and the metal floor beneath it was turning more and more red.Heatbat soon noticed the unexplainable burning sensation all over its body and rose up to its feet.In pain it roared as the screen showed its shadow,made brighter by the flames.The shadow was becoming smaller and at the end of the arm more claws grew,but longer and thiner. The shadow desappered once the floor fully melted and Heatbat fell into water below.
It hand soon reach out of water by itself and grabs the closets surfice not sumberged in water.
Timeskip a week or so later
It was once again that time of the year. The ever so beloved Gator fest.There were games, various products like gator juice,stuffed and porcelain gators as well as hunting gear,fishing equipment and gator tracking kit.It was an event that you simply wouldnt want to miss.Young adult Y/N L/N had drove all the way from the city to see it for another year in a row.He had been visiting ever since he was young with his unckle.
Once was financially indeppended enough he bought an RV.Most of the time he keeps it in the garage but when he wants to fish or when the Gator fest is back,its ready to ride.Y/N parked his RV not to far from Gator fest.Close enough to see it and wallk to it but far enough to sleep without the noise bothering him.Every year he was a welcomed sight and welcomed in general.He even knew the people who worked there.He could just walk around and cassualy greet them.
Y/N:Good afternoon Fred.
Fred:You too Y/N.
Y/N:How are the kids Jasmine?
Jasmine:What can I say.They drive me crazy sometimes but I still love them.
Y/N:Hey Antonio,hear you adopted a dog.
Antonio:Border collie.Shes a fast learner.
Yes Y/N loved Gator fest.And one you say,Gator fest loved him.Everyone needed that special place where they felt at home,away from home.He decided to get a resfreshment as he always does when he gets here and headed towards the gator juice stand.There was a african-american woman around his age happily doing her job.
Y/N:Hi Gloria.Say,there wouldnt happened to be-
Gloria&Y/N:-real gators in the juice?
Gloria:You ask me that every year and every year I say no.
Y/N:What can I say?I love traditions.
Gloria:While Im happy for the bussine,Id be happier if youd stopped that.Heres one on the house.
She gave him a can that was both darka nd line green which he took and put his wallet back in his pocket
Y/N:Thanks.
Gloria:Im not charging you for that one so dont ask next year.
Y/N:Heh,well see.
The Gator fest was doing as great as it does every year.People were enjoying themselves,children were playing,and of course the bussines was booming.Y/N had just finished his bought dinner,gator free obviously,and started to walk to his little mobile home.On the way there he didnt notice something watching him from the trees.Minor creaking of the old branches was silenced by the bayou wind.The point of view of the mysterious stalker shifter every time Y/N made in to a curve in the road. Their focus did not stray from the body of a Y/N and followed his every moves.
The sound of cracking trees became lounder and was soon follwed by a sound of flapping wings.The stalker began to close in on Y/N who noticed the strange sound.He looked up to see what was flying down to him and screamed for someone to hear him but whatever it was chrashed down on him and everything went black.Next thing to be seen was a flying creature flying away with unmoving body of Y/N,further into the swamp.
Timeskip later at night
Y/N groaned and rubbed his head in pain.He opened his eyes to be met by a pair of pure yellow ones.
Y/N:Ahhh!
Creature:Ahhhh!
Y/N screamed and tried go back away only to realise he was sitting against a wall.The creature before him screamed more out of pain than attack.Y/N saw in jump away and cover its ears.Now that he got good look at it he knew this was no ordinary animal.At first it was on all fours with hunched back.Its skin was yellow like a sun and covered by dark red magma rocks.The face looked like a bat mask made out of rock apart from its mouth and eyes that had yellow lines leading to the neck.It had two ears resembeling spikes and a flame flowing down its back like a hair.
On its back were two broad wings that only had magma rocks on the part that looked like bat arm while the flying skin was completly yellow.The last detail were long thin arms that,mcuh like its feet,had yellow fingers.The whole appearance looked...femine to him.But most of all it looked frightened.Even more than he was.Feeling somewhat bad for yelling at her,Y/N stoods up and walks over to her as slowly and gently as possible.
Y/N:Its OK,Im not gonna hurt you.Im sorry about yelling but,can you understand me?
The fire batlike creature nodded and stop covering her ears.
Y/N:Can you talk?
Creature:Y-yes...
Her voice was cracking a bit like she didnt use her voice in months but it was stilll high pitched.Must be because shes so batlike.
Y/N:Im Y/N.Do you have a name.
She shoke her head for no but kept her eyes fixated on Y/N.
Y/N:Then what do your friends call you?
She merely tilted her head in confusion with one of her ears falling to the side.
Y/N:(OK,this is gonna be a tough one.What female name would suit her?)
Y/N:Um...how about Ember?
Creature:Ember?
She seemed to give it some thought before smiling brighty.In every sense of the word.
Ember:I like it.
She looked like a child after being praised for a good deed.Her look of confusion returned once again when she saw a chill run down Y/N's spine.
Ember:You're cold.Let me warm you up.
Y/N:No,wait.Stop!
Y/N thought she will cook him alive so he tried to run.He wasn't fast enough,enabling Ember to pounce on him.To his surprise it wasn't scorching.It was... warm.
Y/N:Huh?But how?
Ember extended one of her arms in front of his face to show her fingers glowing before catching on fire.And the they went back to normal.
Ember:I learned to control my fire.How do you think I climbed trees or carried you here?
Y/N:(She does have a point.)
He felt her nuzzling her head against his shoulder and thou he couldnt see it,she had a relaxed expression with closed eyes and a smile.
Ember:Youre so soft.
Y/N:Um,thank you.
Ember:And smell so nice.
Y/N:It just a moonflower cologne.I got it in a Gator day giftshop.
Y/N:(Wait.Arent those one of the flowers that attract bats?)
Y/N:Um,I should go now.I have somehere to be.
Ember:But,Im all alone here.Please dont go.
She turned him around so she was on top of him,looking at him with big puppy,er batty eyes.Y/N couldnt help himself and go against those eyes.
Y/N:Oh alright.I guess I can stay for a while longer.
Ember:Yay!
She then layed her head on his chest and got comfortable until she fell a sleep.And the constant presense of something,or rather someome,so warm caused Y/N to drift into sleep as well.
Timeskip morning
Y/N rubbed his eyes as he awoke from his surprisingly comfortable sleep.He opened them to see he was still in the observatory which meant that the last night wasnt a dream.He noticed that Ember was nowhere in sight but there was a pile of partially fried wet fish not too far from him.
It wasnt to long before he heard the flapping of large wings and saw Ember landing. She held a fish in each of her hands and one in her mouth.She dropped then on the pile and smiled as her wings wrapped around her body.
Ember:Morning Y/N.I got you breakfast.Usually I grab more with my mouth but Im not as big as I used to be.
Y/N:Im not that hungry.
Ember:But you must eat.Please,for me.
Once again she used those eyes on him and Y/N was powerless to resist.He rolled his eyes to shake of the effect and started to look for fishes that didnt had teeth marks on them.The middle was still raw but fortunetly the muscles were just right.After he ate enough to satisfy his hunger,Y/N dropped back to lean on the wall.His hands on his full stomach and a near silent burp escaping his lips.Before he noticed,Ember snuggled up to him.
Ember:So what do you wanna mate?
Y/N:Oh I dont know.Wait,what did you just call me?
Ember:Mate.We shared a meal and sleeping space.And I lke you a lot.
Y/N:(Maybe she just means a friend.Bats social concepts arent as developed as human ones.)
Y/N:How about you just call me Y/N?
Ember:Mate?
Y/N:Y-/-N.
Ember:Ma-te.
Y/N:How about a friend?
Ember:What is friend?
Y/N:Its um,something like a mate,just not as...I dont know.Theyre practically the same thing.
Ember:OK friend.So what do you wanna do?
Y/N:I was supposed to spend the remaining days of Gator fest with other humans.
Ember:Are you leaving me?
Y/N:No no no.But they cant see you.They would ran away in panic.Hey,I got an idea.
Ember:What is it?
Y/N:First I have to get back to my RV and get some money.
Timeskip 20 minutes later
Scenery changed to the woods surounding the Gator fest.From behind one of the trees,stepped out Ember in a large sized I like gators shirt with longed sleves that for her wings,a fishing hat for her ears,gator mask for the face and a pair of pants and shoes to cover all her firey parts.
Ember:How do I look?
Y/N:Great.No one can tell youre not a human.Now we can walk among others.
Ember:(He said I look great.)
They made their way to the festival hoping no one will notice.
Gloria:Hey Y/N!
He freezes in his tracks and slows turns to her.
Y/N:Yeah?
Gloria:What happened?You're usually here much earlier.And who's your friend?
Ember:I'm Ember.Y/N is my mate.
Y/N:Friend!Friend,she means a friend. She's new around here and needs some time to get used to the things here.
Gloria:I see.So where are you from Ember?
Ember:Over there.
She points to the swamp with her arm that is covered in the sleeve that surpasses her fingers.
Y/N:Over in that general direction.She's from across the sea.Well,it's been nice talking to you but we have to go.
Gloria:Just one more question.Are you two a couple?
Y/N:Wha-what makes you say that?
Gloria:You totally are.I knew you'd found a girlfriend here of all places.
Ember:Whats a girlfriend?
Gloria:Oh boy,shes really not from around here.Its a very special female friend.And boyfriend is a very special male friend.
Ember:Oh?So Y/N is my boyfriend.
Y/N:Isnt she just funny?Lets go Ember.
Y/N dragged Ember away by her sleve since talking to Gloria will do more harm than good.The entire day they have ben getting complements about how nice looking couple they are.But to Y/N,it felt more like teasing.Ember felt like it was her best day ever.She got a mate and a boyfriend in the same season.At first it may have been a little rough but seeing Embers enthusiasm,Y/N came around on the idea of spending time together.
Sure she had the mindset of a bat and body on fire but...she was nice. When the Gator fest ended,he just couldnt have parted with her.And she wouldnt have let go of him.He decided to bring her to his home and bought some blinds for the windows.After few months of overtime on his job,and a side job of buying raw meat and stealing it after Ember fried it,he menaged to by a house in the wilderness.There was a big lake with planty of fish and they even made a a sizeable nest on a tree next to the house.One nigh theyd spend in bed,another in a nest.They were currently laying on the couch,Ember resting atop Y/N who was patting her head,her flames not even fazing him.
Ember:Y/N,can I ask you something?
Y/N:Is it about taking down the roof?
Ember:...Maybe.But we can do that later.For now I wanna lay around with you some more.
