"Hey! Why didn't you come home last night?" I asked as I walked into the district
"Oh I stayed with Jenna" Jay explained trying to hide his face
I had been working with Jay for 10 years now. I knew everything about him and god I even live with him. We have always stayed strictly friends and nothing more. Jay has gone through his share of girlfriends but this one he had fallen in love with. Her name was Jenna but there was something about her that just didn't sit right with me.
"Why are you hiding your face? You talk about it enough" I said, joking
"No reason" Jay added
"Jay" I said as I took his hand away to reveal a huge black eye
"Jay! What the hell happened?!" I asked as I inspected his eye
"Nothing! Can we drop this!" Jay snapped
"Is it Jenna?" I asked
"What! Like hell it is! Just because of what you went through Will Malcolm doesn't mean everyone goes through it!" Jay yelled as I sighed
Ahh Malcolm, the reason I became a cop.
*June 2010*
"Your worthless! You know that!" He yelled as he smacked his belt against my face
"And your nothing but a woman hitter!" I spat
And it looks like I touched a nerve. His face went red as he angrily charged towards me. He wrapped his hands around my neck and pinned me against the wall. Long story short, I couldn't breath
"M-Malcolm" I yelled as best I could
"Not so strong now?!" Malcolm yelled as his grip tightened
I fought so hard to get him off, until he finally gave in. I fell to the floor and he started kicking/punching me until I was black and blue. He then left and went towards the kitchen. I let out a breath until he came back, this time with a knife in his hands. He then looked me up and down before simply slitting my chest. He then ran away as the blood started to pour out of my chest.
*Present Day*
"Okay fine! I'll drop it!" I argued as I walked over to my desk
A few weeks went by and I swear to god every day Jay came in with a new injury. He could never give me an explanation. By this time his whole face was covered in bruises and I felt terrible that I couldn't do anything. It was 1am and I was just about to head to bed when my phone went off. I opened it to see a few missed calls and text from Jay.

I closed my phone more confused than before until my phone went off one last time. I picked it up to hear heavy breathing on the other line
"Hello? Jay?" I asked
"Help" He muttered with his breathing getting heavier
"What's going on? Is it Jenna?!" I asked now fully dressed
"Yes" Jay whispered
"Oh I'm on my way! I've got you Jay" I said before hanging up
I ran out to my car and on the way to Jenna's I called 911
"911 what's your emergency?" The dispatcher asked
"This is 2034 David, I've got a domestic violence involving an off duty detective! I need you to roll and ambo and multiple patrol cars to 76 West wood" I recited as I arrived at Jenna's
"Copy that detective" The dispatcher said as I ended the call
I pulled my gun from my belt and walked in
"Chicago PD! Get your hands up!" I yelled as I did a walk through
I then saw Jay lying on the floor, bleeding severely from his chest. I ran over to him and applied pressure to the wound
"I've got you, it's okay" I said as I pulled out my radio
"Where's my damn ambulance!?" I yelled
"3 minutes out" Dispatch replied
Jay then started to close his eyes
"Hey stay awake! Come on Jay!" I yelled but Jay was too far gone...
